Most of the textile factory workers who participated in the get-together wore new clothes, especially the women, who were all dressed neatly in new cotton-padded jackets and had long, shiny braids on their heads. They were a beautiful sight in the entire provincial capital in winter.
When they arrived at the steel plant from the textile factory, Secretary Zhou and other young colleagues from the steel plant were already waiting at the gate to greet them. They even put up a banner, giving the textile factory a great deal of face.
The women's faces flushed with excitement.
When the men from the steel mill saw the men from the textile factory, their faces turned red. They wanted to look but dared not, and huddled together in a ball.
"Secretary Su, welcome, welcome! Welcome to our factory for friendly exchanges with our brothers and sisters from the textile factory. We've been waiting for your arrival."
Su Yu said enthusiastically, "We're looking forward to this too. We hope the steel mill and textile factory can become one family in the future."
Secretary Zhou smiled and said, "Then let's see how everyone's exchange goes today. Let's all go to our conference room first. Everything is set up, and we've prepared a lot of entertainment. They're all good guys and girls."
Su Yu also boasted about her comrades, "We've also made preparations. All the comrades in our factory are talented singers and dancers, and they're proficient in all sorts of skills."
Secretary Zhou laughed heartily, "Alright, alright, then let's wait and see!"
At the warm invitation of the steel plant workers, the group went into the steel plant's main conference room. Along the way, they encountered workers who all craned their necks to look.
However, since they are all married, it's not appropriate for them to join in the fun.
Liu Mei proudly boasted in the workshop, "Do you know who organized this event? My sister, not my eldest sister from my maternal family, but my husband's older sister."
The female worker next to me asked, "Is she the sister from the textile factory's union?"
"Of course! My older sister is really capable. Do you know about the new clothes our factory gets from the textile mill? My older sister will supply them too. She can help me get the clothes directly, and I can pick out the good ones first. The price will be the same, too. I'm planning to buy some for my family."
"Hey, Meizi, remember this good thing! I heard from someone inside the textile factory that we can save on cloth coupons and industrial coupons when getting supplies."
Liu Mei said proudly, "That won't do. My sister can do without cloth coupons, but industrial coupons are a must. Besides, if we don't give out cloth coupons, the price can't be this cheap. My older sister wants to protect the factory's interests."
"Okay, a little more money is fine, as long as we can save on cloth coupons. You can secretly bring some back for me later."
"Then I'll go back and tell my sister. As long as she agrees, there won't be any problem."
After finishing, Liu Mei glanced at the workshop door and sighed inwardly, wishing she could see what her older sister was doing. She must be looking very impressive now.
Inside the steel plant's main conference room, Su Yu and Secretary Zhou were watching a performance by young male and female colleagues. The men and women were quite enthusiastic, boldly going on stage to perform and showcase their strengths.
Singing, dancing, and some people even did the Yangko dance.
Su Yu initially watched with great interest, but after a while, she noticed that these men and women started to act coy after finding suitable partners.
This show is unwatchable. The only thing you can watch is these gay men and women trying to be intimate with each other in a sneaky and secretive way, all while looking shy.
Sure enough, no matter how passionate and outgoing gay men and women are, they will become hesitant and restrained at times.
For example, the man sitting next to her.
The man was quite handsome and rather quiet. He looked a little nervous.
Su Yu glanced at him furtively a couple of times, but didn't say anything to him. Secretary Zhou, however, smiled and said, "Comrade Li Jianfeng is the captain of our district police station. He's twenty-eight this year, and he was a veteran before joining the army."
Su Yu asked with a smile, "When did Captain Li retire from the army?"
“Last year,” Li Jianfeng said nervously, his slightly dark face flushed red. He didn’t dare look at Su Yu at all, but he couldn’t help stealing glances at her a few times.
She wore a beige scarf, a military green Lenin suit, and a military cap. Her shoulder-length hair fell smoothly to her sides. She had thick eyebrows, large eyes with dark, bright pupils that seemed to speak volumes. Her slightly round face made her skin appear very smooth. Her lips were full and red, and when she smiled, her teeth were white and her lips were red.
This woman looks so energetic, it's almost unbearable to look directly at her.
So handsome!
Secretary Zhou was quite dissatisfied with Li Jianfeng's silent and reserved demeanor. Such a good opportunity, why didn't he make the most of it? If it weren't for the Li family's decent financial situation, he wouldn't have introduced Secretary Su to him. And yet, he was so clueless.
However, since he was still a friend, he had to help him out, so he continued to say to Su Yu, "Captain Li participated in the Korean War before. Their troops were very powerful. They showed the might of our great nation."
Sure enough, Su Yu looked at Li Jianfeng with admiration.
She admired such people who served the country and its people.
In particular, the Korean War, in which China defeated the coalition of nations led by the world's largest superpower, made the Western powers no longer dare to look at the Chinese soldiers. This was of great significance.
"Captain Li is truly admirable."
Li Jianfeng swallowed nervously. "Actually, it wasn't that good. I was quite young back then and didn't play forward."
Su Yu said, "Anyone who dares to go to the battlefield is a hero."
Li Jianfeng's face turned even redder.
Seeing him like this, Su Yu was also secretly pondering.
She had some idea of Secretary Zhou's intentions. As a 26-year-old woman, soon to be 27, she was indeed at the point of needing to get married in this day and age.
