At noon, Su Yu and Song Dongzheng went to the cafeteria for lunch. Although they had brought meat buns, their families obviously hadn't prepared anything special for daily life, so they had to eat at the cafeteria for their first meal.
Song Dongzheng had originally planned to take Su Yu to a state-run restaurant. However, Su Yu disagreed. She wasn't there just to study; she also wanted to assert her dominance.
Comrade Dongzheng is all alone out there, so young and beautiful, and she even has a little bit of power. She's practically a walking flower that attracts bees and butterflies. During the break from eating, Su Yu also spared some time to pay attention to these people.
There aren't many people at the Jinhe County government office, but quite a few eat in the canteen. Many families take their meals home to eat.
This shows that the cadres here don't have an easy life either. If their families are well-off and they buy their own groceries and cook for themselves, their meals are definitely hotter than what they eat in the canteen.
Song Dongzheng had long since stopped caring about anything else. He brought over some cornbread and some bone broth, placing them on the table. "Why don't we go home to eat?" He genuinely didn't want anyone disturbing their meal.
Su Yu said, "I just arrived and I've been eating in my room. People might think I'm ashamed or don't want to see anyone. It's okay, I'll finish eating before I leave."
She also wanted to observe the situation of the grassroots staff.
Song Dongzheng simply sat obediently beside her. He had already decided that he would take good care of Comrade Su Yu during this period, ensuring she had a pleasant vacation here, and hopefully stay as long as possible.

Those were a few older women, probably gossiping.
"Do you know those people?" Su Yu asked.
Secretary Song glanced at the cornbread she was eating and said, "Our county's Women's Federation comrade, Director Zhu."
Are you familiar with them?
"Women...I'm an older woman, and I'm familiar with most of them."
Su Yu looked at his pleasing face. No matter the time, it's all about looks.
After finishing their meal, Su Yu took the dishes to wash them. Song Dongzheng quickly said, "I'll go, you rest."
"I'll go." Su Yu picked up the bowl and chopsticks and followed the group of gossiping aunts and uncles to the tap.
Director Zhu was about to gossip about County Chief Song's girlfriend when he saw her joining in the dishwashing, so he stopped talking. They all smiled at Su Yu. After all, she was a college graduate from the provincial capital, and they all felt a little embarrassed to talk to her, sensing some difference in their social standing.
Su Yu greeted Director Zhu, "Director Zhu, hello."
Director Zhu looked at Su Yu with a sense of flattery, not expecting that Su Yu actually knew her.
"You know me?"
"Yes, I used to work in the city and I was on good terms with Director Xiao of the Municipal Women's Federation. She mentioned you to me before. Once, when I was helping her organize some documents, I saw your photo, Director Zhu."

Su Yu smiled but didn't say anything. She looked embarrassed, then smiled at Song Dongzheng who was standing next to her.
Song Dongzheng shuddered.
After washing the dishes, Su Yu took the opportunity to arrange with Director Zhu to meet at his home after get off work that evening for a chat. After all, she had just arrived and didn't know anyone, nor did she have anyone she knew to talk to.
Director Zhu was more than happy to do so; she enjoyed chatting with these down-to-earth college students. Ideally, they should talk more about Director Xiao from the city.
On the way back, Su Yu wore a smile and didn't say a word, while Song Dongzheng swallowed nervously, worried that Su Yu would come after him.
Once inside, he put down his chopsticks and took Su Yu's hand, saying, "I'm not blind, people guessed it themselves."
Su Yu glanced at him sideways, "How did you treat me? I just said that when I came here today, everyone was looking at me like that, as if I had done something amazing."
“I praised you, I praised you as much as I could. Everyone envies me for having such a good partner. But when I first came here, no one knew I had a partner, so I had to find opportunities to tell them. So I brought you up whenever I had the chance, like when someone offered me a cigarette, my partner wouldn't let me, my partner wouldn't let me drink, and when we went out to eat, my partner wouldn't let me…”
Su Yu tapped his head, "Aren't you afraid people will laugh at you?"
"What's so funny?" Song Dongzheng said confidently. "I just like being bossed around. Who can boss me around?"
