Chapter 186 The Light of Fireflies

Fang Xiangwen touched his nose and looked at Fu Weidong: "Third Sister Ji, something seems off..."

It's as if they just threw Fu Weidong away like some kind of trouble.

Fu Weidong blinked and said, "You'll get used to it."

After becoming neighbors with the Ji family, he often saw Ji Sanmei and Ji Saozi outwitting each other.

Ji Sanmei must have negotiated with Ji Saozi by sending me here.

"Well, all of us combined are probably less appealing to her than a single steamed bun."

When you're hungry, who cares what the people around you are thinking? Fu Weidong accurately grasped Ji Sanmei's core thoughts.

Fang Xiangwu looked at his brother and Fu Weidong squatting on the ground, gossiping as if discussing the philosophy of life, with a headache on his face. He twitched his lips and said, "Brother, didn't we bring a gift for Dongzi? Aren't you going to take someone to see it?"

Fang Xiangwen immediately stood up and pulled Fu Weidong away.

Fu Weidong was already used to the brothers' impulsive and unpredictable style of action, so he dragged his short legs along behind them.

Fang Xiangwen and Fang Xiangwu took out the gifts they had specially prepared and looked at Fu Weidong with smug expressions, as if waiting for his praise.

Fu Weidong was stunned for a long time before slowly asking, "What is this?"

"They're fireflies. You haven't seen them before, have you?"

Fang Xiangwu said exaggeratedly.

Fu Weidong shook his head. In the past, when he was with the Tian family, his activities were limited to a small area. Later, when he was with his sister, he wished he could grow on Fan Xiaofan. Even in Xiangyang Brigade, with that devil Shi Lingheng around, he would occasionally get together with Gou Dan and the others to play in the mud.

Fang Xiangwen had already cleverly closed the doors and windows, and for a moment the light from outside could not get in, making the room dark. Fu Weidong could see that the bottle that Fang Xiangwu was carefully holding emitted a faint glow.

Isn't it especially beautiful?

Fang Wu, standing to the side, spoke up boastfully.

Fu Weidong stared at the bottle, a glowing light appearing before his eyes—a sight he had never seen before.

"We traded these biscuits with the children in the village for them, and we're giving them to you especially."

Fang Xiangwen solemnly took the bottle from his younger brother and handed it to Fu Weidong, but seeing Fu Weidong take a step back, he scratched his head and asked, "Don't you like it?"

Fu Weidong looked up at the Fang brothers in front of him and shook his head: "I've never seen one before. I've only heard my sister talk about fireflies. They only live for three to seven days. If you trap them in a bottle, they'll die in one night."

He spoke plainly, as if he were merely talking about the popularization of fireflies, but Fang Xiangwen and Fang Xiangwu did not know that he was thinking of his past self.

If it weren't for Fan Xiaofan's appearance, after he was kicked out of the Tian family, he would probably have been like a firefly, its faint light extinguished in the blink of an eye.

"I don't really like small things with short lifespans."

A shorter lifespan means less time spent together.

A five-year-old boy, with a serious face, said "little thing," which always made people want to laugh. The Fang brothers didn't think too much about it. Fu Weidong didn't like them and didn't force them. They just wanted to share.

Throwing the fireflies aside, the three children always manage to find something fun to do. Fu Weidong tells them about encountering a devil in Xiangyang Brigade, and how he couldn't escape it. Fang Xiangwen and Fang Xiangwu say they went to their maternal grandmother's house, where their aunt secretly took their food to give to her son... Their grandmother apologizes to them privately...

The little heads were all huddled together, making a lively scene.
