Two notices were posted on the bulletin board at the factory gate.
One reward and one punishment; a dozen or so onlookers chatted and laughed, discussing the matter.
"I knew it! Xiao Xing would get a reward for fixing the computer, but I didn't expect him to get a permanent position," one of the onlookers said.
"I heard yesterday that experts from the provincial capital invited Xiao Xing to work for their company. It's a pity that that silly Xiao Xing refused. What a great opportunity!"
"It's right not to go, otherwise how could we enjoy these benefits?"
"Huh, why is this girl's punishment so lenient?"
"Come on, that young lady has it tough too. Everyone makes mistakes, right? Deducting two months' bonus is a waste! That's a dollar or two!"
"Thanks to Xiao Xing for fixing the computer in time, otherwise the fine would have been much more than this."
"Yeah yeah"
"Xiao Xing saved her life."
No one knows who spread the rumor, but within a morning the entire factory knew that Xing Baohua had saved Su Ya's life. Those few who knew the truth were stunned when they heard this; how could the rumor have spread so wildly?
Xing Baohua was transferred from the third workshop to the employee home appliance repair department of the logistics support company, where he served as the department head.
The entire transfer process was carried out in accordance with proper procedures, and he was spoken to by the deputy head of the factory's personnel department.
During the conversation, Xing Baohua learned that he had two other temporary workers under him. He immediately took Xu Shuai over. As for the other one, that was no longer his responsibility.
The factory's logistics support company wasn't even fully established yet, but his little department had already been set up. It was somewhat strange, though I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
The factory is giving its employees a form of welfare, and nobody says anything about it. Even if they find it strange, they all think it's a good thing.
Logistics support companies were a unique feature of that era, but they were also short-lived. Only large factories or companies with significant resources could establish them, and these places were typically set up to cultivate connections and favors.
In that era, state-owned enterprises were bloated. Many well-developed companies were dragged down by their excessive workforce. That's why enterprise reforms and staff reductions were implemented later on.
The repair department has a policy that benefits all staff members: if any appliance breaks down, they can take it to the repair department for repair. If parts are needed, the repair shop will issue a receipt, and the staff can then pick up the parts from the logistics warehouse.
This is similar to the nature of a hospital, where doctors examine patients, write prescriptions, and patients take the prescriptions to the pharmacy to pick up their medications.
This measure was to prevent Xing Baohua from pocketing the money; he was paid a salary, and there was no such thing as a repair fee.
Of course, this welfare policy of the factory has conditions; it applies only to factory employees, not temporary workers. Furthermore, if electrical appliances need repair, the factory will reimburse half the cost of spare parts.
In other words, repairs are free, but you have to pay half the price for replacement parts. There are limitations in all aspects.
When Xing Baohua understood the system, he sneered to himself, thinking, "With so many loopholes, I could become the richest man in the factory just by replacing parts."
Xing Baohua was satisfied with the work in the repair department. He had originally wanted to find a base to tinker with some things, but the factory had arranged such a thoughtful arrangement for him!
As for appliance repair, that's a piece of cake. Just wait for the right time, hehe.
The repair shop is located in a street-front building on the main road between the machinery factory and the residential area, about 30 meters from the factory gate.
When the repair shop first opened, it was very lively. Now that living standards have improved, almost every household has some electrical appliances, such as radios, tape recorders, and televisions.
On that day, more than a dozen electrical appliances of various kinds were delivered, most of them old-fashioned radios.
Xing Baohua's face fell. "This is outrageous! I'm paid a fixed salary, I have no pricing power! How am I supposed to make any money?"
Just as I was feeling bitter, I saw someone pushing a flatbed cart with a refrigerator coming over.
His eyes were practically popping out of his head; this whole mess has gotten so bad that he doesn't know how to explain it to the person. He really can't fix this thing.
It's like asking someone who works with microelectronics to fix compressors—they're not on the same wavelength!
I really wanted to slap Xu Shuai, but before he could even refuse, Xu Shuai enthusiastically helped the customer unload the refrigerator.
The morning was bustling with activity, making the repair shop seem very prosperous.
I spent the morning fixing two old radios and one tape recorder. They were all minor issues. The radios had loose solder joints due to aging of the circuit board. Resoldering them fixed the problem.
The tape recorder is a bit more troublesome; the magnetic head is also unsoldered. It's just that disassembling and reassembling it is a bit more complicated.
"Wouldn't playing some music at this moment make things more energetic?" That's a great idea, but I don't have the equipment.
"Xu Shuai, doesn't Xu Fei have a tape recorder? Let's borrow it and play some music while we work," Xing Baohua said.
"Hua Zi, no need to borrow it, I have a Panasonic at home. It's just a bit quiet. It's okay to listen to indoors, but it's hard to hear from the doorway." The speaker was a distant relative of Director Liu from the factory office. His name was Liu Quan, and he was two years older than Xing Baohua.
“Then let’s go home and move it over. We can listen to it for now, and I’ll get a high-end audio system made later,” Xing Baohua said.
"Okay." Liu Quan said and left, grinning at Xu Shuai who was busy at work.
"Hua Zi, how do you fix the refrigerator?" Xu Shuai asked as he came over after Xing Baohua was alright.
"have no idea."
"You don't know?" Xu Shuai asked in surprise.
“I really don’t know how to fix it. From now on, let’s not take on large appliances, especially refrigerators and washing machines. They only have a few electronic components inside. No matter how I fix them, it’s all caused by mechanical failure,” Xing Baohua said.
“Then it has already been delivered, so it still needs to be repaired!” Xu Shuai said.
“You can start by taking it apart. By the way, weren’t you learning from a master in the electromechanical group? Perfect, this is your specialty. Don’t worry about it, just fix it. If necessary, I’ll write a prescription and we’ll replace the parts directly,” Xing Baohua said generously.
