Chapter 12 Electronic Components

A week passed in the blink of an eye, and Xing Baohua was still lazing around doing nothing, either listening to music or writing and drawing.

As for the repair department, once the pace slowed down, fewer people brought in appliances for repair. Xing Baohua shifted the blame for those appliances that had previously come in for repair to the warehouse.

Xu Shuai took six or seven yuan from him to buy cigarettes, but didn't find out anything about it. It was all useless information; this investment was a failure.

This is a typical example of rumors flying everywhere, while you'll never be told what the decisions are. Of course, this excludes cases of deliberate leaks.

Due to limited access to information, Xing Baohua wanted to observe the situation first. If the renamed Wusi Factory continued its decline, was it possible it would be outsourced?

The contract responsibility system was first piloted in 1981, and this year it is being implemented as a key focus. To paraphrase Deng Xiaoping, we should proceed cautiously, feeling our way across the river, as long as it brings the country back to life. We shouldn't care whether it's a black cat or a white cat—the distinction between the two can be understood as representing the interests of the state and the people.

Whether it's a state-owned enterprise or a private enterprise, as long as it can drive economic development, it's a good company.

Of course, private enterprises still cannot thrive in this era; to develop, they must find a collective organization to affiliate with. It's simply a matter of paying an affiliation fee.

Those with brains and ideas have already taken the lead. Then, the trend of following suit led to a different situation, gradually developing towards privatization.

This led to the debates on socialism versus capitalism that followed in the years to come. A great clash of ideas sparked a flurry of responses. Deng Xiaoping once again stepped in, delivering the decisive blow, which led to our current era of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the rise of our nation.

Xing Baohua sighed that he was fortunate to live in a good era, at least he had a skill to develop. What could he do if he were to return to that wicked feudal era?

If you're neither good at literature nor martial arts, you're not far from death. Unless you achieve everything in one fell swoop, becoming the most powerful person in the world with three palaces, six courtyards, and seventy-two concubines.

"Hey, what are you thinking about? You're drooling." Xu Shuai disturbed Xing Baohua's sweet dream. This guy was playing in the pond with the concubines of the harem.

He opened his sleepy eyes, wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth, and asked, "What?"

"Your package was just delivered by the postman. I'll receive it for you. Take a look," Xu Shuai said, handing a box with a fish-scale-patterned outer packaging to Xing Baohua.

After checking the sender's name and address, Xing Baohua knew what was inside: the electronic components he had ordered from Zhang Xuebao had arrived.

Upon opening the packaging, you'll find the components packaged in several small bags.

Xu Shuai leaned over and asked, "What's this? Who mailed it to you?"

“Chips and various resistors, diodes, transistors, etc.,” Xing Baohua explained.

"What are you going to use it for? You're not going to use it to repair TVs and radios, are you? Didn't you say you were going to get it from the warehouse? How did it end up here? How are you going to keep accounts?" Xu Shuai asked several questions in a row, making Xing Baohua want to roll her eyes.

“I asked Engineer Zhang to mail this from the provincial capital. This thing cost me over two hundred yuan. Who would be willing to spend it on that pile of junk?” Xing Baohua explained.

"Damn, over two hundred? When did you get so much money? I had no idea. Besides, what are you buying all this stuff for?" Three more questions followed, leaving Xing Baohua speechless.

He replied impatiently, "Why do you talk so much! You're always asking questions, you're nothing special, yet you still keep asking."

"Ask what's wrong. Ever since you got your computer fixed, you've been like a completely different person. You weren't like this before. Where did you get so much money? Give me two hundred yuan."

“When I had dinner with Engineer Zhang last time, I sold their company a blueprint. What about the money? I didn’t take it; I exchanged it all for these parts,” Xing Baohua explained helplessly.

"What do you need these parts for? They're not for eating or drinking." Xu Shuai asked curiously, determined to get to the bottom of things.

"This is the last time I'll answer you. If you ask again, I'll throw you out," Xing Baohua said, pointing at Xu Shuai.

"Alright, alright, I won't ask, just tell me." Xu Shuai's expression immediately made Xing Baohua wonder, how did this guy become such a goofball?

“Use these parts to make a sound system,” Xing Baohua said.

Just as Xu Shuai was about to ask another question, Xing Baohua immediately pointed at his mouth and said, "Don't ask, just watch, don't say anything."

Xu Shuai was forced to swallow back the question he was about to ask, his face turning bright red.

Xing Baohua carried the box to the workbench, took out the electrical components inside, and then called Liu Quan over to teach him how to identify electronic components.

Despite Liu Quan's powerful background, he's honest and hardworking, eager to learn a trade. In this repair shop, he does whatever he's told to do. Although there's not much to do most of the time, he doesn't talk much and always seems almost invisible.

Xing Baohua felt that this person was honest enough and was willing to teach him some repair knowledge.

This guy also has some selfish motives. He trains Liu Quan so he can start a lazy lifestyle and just lie around doing nothing. Isn't that great?

As Xing Baohua took the items out of the box, she also noticed a note inside. The handwriting on it was neat and tidy, which immediately made Xing Baohua feel that Zhang Xuebao's handwriting was like a girl's.

Looking at the list of component models, quantities, specifications, and unit prices, I felt that Zhang Xuebao was very meticulous.

Only at the very end did I realize that the handwriting was actually done by Zhang Xuebao's assistant. No wonder it looked like a girl's handwriting; I thought it was written by Zhang Xuebao himself.

After sorting through the components with Liu Quan, Xing Baohua turned his attention to the three chips. To his surprise, they included Texas Instruments' TMSA digital signal processor and TMC281 digital speech synthesizer.

The model of the other chip is still unknown, but the two chips available so far have Xing Baohua overjoyed.

Xing Baohua was reluctant to modify either of these two chips, especially in this day and age, it's not easy to make anything high-end, especially chips.
