Chapter 229 Three Fires

Xing Baohua could only lament that the Japanese processing plant had an element of luck involved.

In any case, having orders means you can make some money.

Once the profits are acquired, the holding company can extract them elsewhere, leaving only enough for the processing plant to keep operating.

If one plan fails, another will be devised.

I just haven't thought of a good solution yet.

After staying in Hong Kong for another week, and with no further news about Xing Baohua in the media, he decided to return to China first.

When Xing Baohua came, he brought ten security guards with him. Eight of them were left to undergo training at the security company. Only the section chief and one old ping-pong player came back with him.

Back home, Xing Baohua didn't have much of an easy time either. He continued with research and development, hoping to come up with two novel products at the 86th Canton Fair.

One is a rugged laptop, and the other is a desktop computer.

Anyway, it won't be until April next year, which is more than five months away. If they can make it in time and produce graphics card samples, Xing Baohua will consider showcasing the desktop computer as a concept machine.

Of course, there are several different models.

As for the rugged laptop that Teacher Cheng wanted, Xing Baohua really put his heart into making it.

It's identical to the laptop that's about to be released, except for the waterproof material inside.

All interfaces must be secure and have a separate, easily replaceable fuse. This is to prevent short circuits and damage to the motherboard if the circuitry is submerged in water.

The biggest problem is heat dissipation. If waterproofing isn't a priority, you can add ventilation grilles on the sides or bottom to achieve physical cooling.

Fortunately, all the chips at that time were low-power and didn't get very hot, but if the laptop was completely sealed, the temperature would get higher and higher.

In the end, Xing Baohua resorted to the most basic method: metal heat dissipation. He connected a copper heat pipe to the CPU, which was then connected in parallel to the aluminum alloy base of the laptop.

The bottom of the laptop has a label in both Chinese and English stating: "This is the heatsink; do not touch it."

Although no samples have been tested yet, Xing Baohua can imagine that the heat dissipation part is big enough to fry an egg.

Xing Baohua couldn't achieve the same enclosed cooling system as the Macbook.

Besides, that thing isn't waterproof. Even if it's sealed, it still has a ventilation hole, since it also has a fan.

Let's get started! Two versions.

The team is currently working on a low-cost version of pagers with both digital and Chinese characters. Li Xiangyang from Changhong Electromechanical didn't leave.

Whenever Xing Baohua isn't busy, I'll come over and chat.

There's no way around it; even if I'm busy, I have to make time to chat. After all, the other party is a major investor now. We're close strategic partners.

Even when Xing Baohua was chatting with Li Xiangyang, he would intentionally or unintentionally mention LCD TVs.

This allowed Changhong to plan ahead.

To get Changhong Electromechanical up and running, Xing Baohua not only ordered 10-inch laptop LCD screens, but also 15-inch, 17-inch, and 21-inch LCD monitors.

Li Xiangyang said that producing the screens was no problem, but producing the monitors was something they couldn't do. However, given enough time, Changhong was certain they could develop them.

It's mainly the monitor's motherboard, which I've never worked with before.

The real intention was to have Xing Baohua handle the motherboard. Alternatively, they could just provide the finished LCD screens, and Xing Baohua could handle the rest of the assembly.

Xing Baohua called Zhang, the factory manager of Chenguang, to ask whether the factory was in the new factory in the High-tech Development Zone or in Luchuan.

Just then, Factory Director Zhang was checking on the construction progress at the new factory when Xing Baohua called him over.

Upon entering and seeing Li Xiangyang, he paused slightly, recognizing him as a colleague. After all, Factory Director Zhang was involved in downstream supply chain manufacturing. He had assumed Xing Baohua was introducing him to business with Changhong.

First, shake hands with Li Xiangyang, and then the two sit down.

Xing Baohua said to Factory Director Zhang, "I was just chatting with Lao Li, and I wanted to order a few LCD monitors. Changhong can only supply LCD screens, not assemble the monitors. I think the assembly can be done by your Chenguang Electronics Factory."

Factory Director Zhang smiled slightly and said, "You're not going to make me build another new factory, are you?"

“No.” Xing Baohua waved his hand and continued, “The cost is too high, and besides, production volume is a problem. My idea is to start with small-scale production, one or two hundred units per month will be enough.”

"With such a small quantity, wouldn't the cost be even higher?" Factory Director Zhang said.

“Right now, most monitors are CRT monitors, since they’re cheaper. LCD monitors look thinner and lighter, and their prices are what they are. I want to test the waters first and see how the market goes. Anyway, a few hundred units a month won’t have much of an impact on your business,” Xing Baohua said.

Seeing that Director Zhang nodded, Xing Baohua continued, "I was just talking to Old Li, and he quoted 1,870 for a 21-inch LCD screen. With the motherboard and other chips, I estimate it will be around 2,300. Can you calculate how much it would cost to assemble one over there?"

Factory Director Zhang glanced at Li Xiangyang, then finally asked Xing Baohua, "How about Xing Baohua takes RCT monitors? His production line can produce over a thousand units per month."

Xing Baohua shook his head and said, "Speaking of CRT monitors, I know yours is based on the TV model, which is different. We need to change it, since the pixels and refresh rate are different from TVs."

Then he turned to Li Xiangyang and said, "Old Li, do you want to get involved?"

Li Xiangyang shook his head slightly and said, "You guys do your thing. Changhong TVs are already sold out. If you set aside another production line to make RCT displays, it will create overlap in business."

Factory Director Zhang nodded to Li Xiangyang, then said to Xing Baohua, "This year, Taishan TV Factory has received very few orders. We have one production line idle right now, and I was thinking of supplying you with some RCT monitors."

Xing Baohua waved his hand and said, "Put this aside for now. Although monitors and TVs have different structures, there are still differences. You guys take a look first. I'll make the motherboard for the LCD monitor, and your factory can handle everything."
