Chapter 247 Starlink is promising

When Motorola was developing this laptop, they added some of their own hardware. The other major components were still assembled from parts.

The CPU is from Intel, the memory is from another company, etc. Only the wireless intercom system is from them, and they even added a GPS module to the laptop.

Use Motorola's Starlink system directly.

This local wireless intercom system, with an extended antenna, can reach a range of 5 kilometers. No more getting lost in remote areas; simply open a map for direct satellite navigation.

It's indeed very powerful, but it's not available for sale to the public.

If Xing Baohua were to add a solar panel to a laptop, although it might seem like a gimmick, it would still be somewhat useful for people who enjoy outdoor sports or frequently work outdoors.

They shouldn't rip off customers domestically; they should rip off customers overseas instead! Such expensive stuff will make domestic users curse.

As if on cue, the chief secretary came over and said that the motorcycle team knew Xing Baohua was in America and wanted to invite him to visit.

It seems there's something to discuss, so I'll make a trip.

We agreed on a time and booked our tickets to Chicago.

Two days later, Xing Baohua arrived in Chicago, where he met with Galvin, the current chairman of Motorola, in his office.

He was an old man in his sixties, quite tall, but perhaps due to his age, he was a little hunched over.

This man is a legendary figure who single-handedly led motorcycles to become one of the world's top companies.

Motorcycles is also a family business; Galvin took over the company his father founded, and it will eventually be passed on to his son.

It was during his tenure as head of the company that the mobile phone interviewing and pager developed in the lab were disseminated to global business, allowing Motorola to truly take off. It's only just begun now.

The two didn't exchange any pleasantries and immediately started discussing business.

Motorola wants to fully open its two-way paging service and hopes to obtain Xing Baohua's consent.

They also asked Xing Baohua if he was under pressure, noting that Motorcycle was also experiencing considerable pressure. In the capital market, to reap huge profits, one needs strength and resilience; if you can weather the storm, you'll become incredibly wealthy.

Xing Baohua picked up the coffee prepared on the table, took a sip, and used the opportunity to think of another solution.

He then turned to the chairman of Motorola and said, "Mr. Galvin, I would like to know how the licensing fees for the open system will be distributed?"

"How about 3:7?" Galvin said calmly, his face expressionless.

Xing Baohua shook his head immediately at the offer, saying, "Mr. Galvin, I hope Motorcycle can show its utmost sincerity, otherwise we won't be able to reach an agreement. Instead of wasting time, why don't we do something else?"

The old man then smiled slightly and said, "Fifty-fifty split, that's the bottom line for motorcycles."

Xing Baohua shook his head again and said, "Mr. Galvin, I don't want to analyze the market for you anymore. The data speaks for itself! The European and American markets can bring in so many transactions that motorcycles can generate at least tens of billions in profits every year."

"Can't you also generate billions in profits? Young man, don't be greedy like the wolves of Wall Street."

“I’m different from you. If I don’t publicly authorize it, I’ll earn more. If I do authorize it, it will squeeze my market share through external channels.”

"I have a huge customer base in the Middle East, and they can ship equipment all over Europe," Xing Baohua stated bluntly, revealing that he really wanted the benefits from motorcycles.

Currently, motorcycles rely primarily on mobile phones and pagers for communication. Other wireless devices have a very small and narrow market.

It's nowhere near as profitable as using a mobile phone or pager.

Moreover, Xing Baohua has already obtained the technology that Motorola should have. Unless Motorola gives him the most advanced lithography technology, which is obviously impossible, the only possible way to succeed is to persuade the Starlink system to be launched.

Xing Baohua then proposed using the patent licensing fees to build the Starlink system, and to save costs, the carrier would be the domestic Long March series.

The satellite was manufactured at the Motorcycle Factory and then transported domestically and launched into space under strict security.

The control system is still in Motorola's hands. Xing Baohua also owns half of the usage rights and half of the profits, and the hardware produced by Dami Technology can connect to the Starlink system.

Of course, customers using the client still have to pay for the service.

Motorcycles are destined to sell services; otherwise, how will they recoup their costs?

As long as Xing Baohua can manufacture the equipment, he can make money by selling the hardware. Even though Xing Baohua has half the control over its use, it's completely useless.

He wouldn't be allowed to control the motorcycle either.

So Xing Baohua's ultimate goal was not to control someone else's satellite, but to obtain the decoding.

Only in this way can he create a matching software system to support hardware sales.

And the software is free.

Although it goes against the sales philosophy of motorcycles, Xing Baohua firmly believes that free is the key to success.

Motorola is indeed interested in building Starlink, and Xing Baohua had previously suggested it. However, there are differing opinions within the board of directors.

This was the second negotiation regarding Starlink, and two points in it moved Motorola deeply.

The first company to invest in the Starlink project was DaMi Technology, which opened up its patents and licensed their use to generate profits. This significantly reduced the company's investment in the Starlink project.

Secondly, there's the issue of cost; the cost is lower across the ocean, which aligns with the interests of motorcycle manufacturers.

The rest depends on whether the United States approves it or not.

We also need to prepare some money to hire a lobbying team to handle this matter.

If you're willing to spend money, some things can actually be easier and less stressful. Americans like to hire lobbying teams when they encounter tricky problems.

There are companies that specialize in this; they sell networks of connections. If you really think that networks of connections are just a matter of face, then obviously they aren't.

Money paves the way, and various interests are exchanged for it.
