Chapter 25 What kind of chicken is a chicken that lacks meat?

As the saying goes, rivals are enemies.

Are two different departments considered colleagues? In essence, no, but in practice they are.

Is the canteen at the machinery factory big?

Does the cafeteria manager have a lot of power?

Is it oily or greasy?

Xing Baohua inadvertently offended this powerful and influential figure with a deep background through an unintentional action.

No matter who the canteen serves, as long as they are of a certain rank, the profits will be substantial.

Not only did Xing Baohua take on the reception duties, but he also made the cafeteria provide the ingredients?

It was undoubtedly like snatching meat from a tiger's mouth.

"Hey you, get the meat ready. Each piece should weigh 1.7 jin (0.85 kg), no less, no more." The canteen manager read out the list to the staff as they prepared the ingredients.

"Boss, they didn't say how big the fish is, or what kind of fish it is," said a cafeteria employee.

"Didn't you see the sign saying the fish can't be too big? Deputy Factory Director Zhao told me the day before yesterday that he wanted to eat loach tofu. Didn't he bring over a basket of loach yesterday afternoon? Catch a couple. Never mind, just give him a small bowl." The canteen manager said with a long face.

Hou Liwei stood to the side without saying a word, but he was secretly pleased. At least someone was going to deal with Xing Baohua and help him vent his anger.

If you can't deal with him, you can at least annoy him. He'll be happy just looking at him anyway.

After packing the items, Hou Liwei didn't deliver them himself. Instead, he had one of the canteen staff members deliver them by tricycle.

Afterwards, they chatted and smoked in the canteen manager's office, unaware that the deliveryman had ridden his tricycle straight home from the factory, casually cutting off a little bit of each type of meat.

Xu Shuai bought some meat and asked Liu Quan to prepare it. He had an urgent matter to attend to at the public restroom. On the way, he ran into the tricycle driver, whom he recognized. After exchanging greetings, he hurried off to attend to his urgent business.

Xu Shuai returned to the shop, and the tricycle driver arrived shortly after.

"Liu Zi, why were you riding so fast just now?" Xu Shuai asked the cafeteria worker.

"Our director asked me to bring you some meat and vegetables," Liu Zi said.

"The cafeteria manager asked you to bring the meat and vegetables here? Is this kind of..." He was about to say something good when he heard Liu Quan cough, and immediately understood.

"Come in quickly, are these all the ones in the car? Let me get them, let me get them." Xu Shuai realized that Xing Baohua was the one who did this.

Seeing some meat and vegetables, I thought to myself, "Was the meat I bought this morning a waste? Oh, and there are loaches too, good stuff."

Liu Quan also came out to help Xu Shuai carry the food, and then said to the cafeteria worker, "Liu Zi, how much is all of these? Do you know how many there are?"

"No, that's all. I'm going back now." After saying that, the canteen worker got on his tricycle and sped off to the factory.

"Brother Quanzi, how did Hua Zi do this?" Xu Shuai asked, still puzzled.

"It was extracted!" Liu Quan said after thinking for a moment.

"Ah! This is what he meant by 'sheep-hunting'! Wait a minute! I thought he was bringing back real wool?" Xu Shuai's mind cleared up after a moment's thought, but then his brain went blank again.

"Don't be so alarmed. There was a term called 'yanggu' from earlier times, which probably means something like that—to trick a layman," Liu Quan explained.

"This was swindled from the factory, haha, that's good, let him swindle more in the future. Then we'll have meat to eat more often," Xu Shuai said with a smile.

"Alright, I guess this will happen once in a while. Wash the meat first, and I'll add some salt to marinate it for a while," Liu Quan said.

When Xu Shuai took out the chickens, he was furious. One was missing a leg, and the other was missing both wings. He angrily shouted, "So that's why Liu Zi was delivering goods to the neighborhood first! Turns out he was intercepting our goods! Look at Quanzi, is this how you intercept goods?"

"Alright, it's good enough that we have some. Take a basin, soak the loaches in it, add some salt and let them expel the muddy smell," Liu Quan instructed. Actually, this kind of thing is common. Anyway, it's all public property, so we'll just go along with it if we can.

Everyone knows perfectly well that as long as it's not too outrageous, they'll just turn a blind eye.

At noon, Xing Baohua didn't accompany the foreigner to the cafeteria for lunch; he walked back by himself.

Su Ya had wanted to invite him to eat in the cafeteria, but she was too embarrassed. When she saw Hou Liwei waiting for her, she didn't dare to ask him. When Hou Liwei invited her to eat with him again, Su Ya shook her head and refused.

She felt conflicted as she watched the departing figure.

Xing Baohua hummed a little tune as he returned to the shop. As soon as he entered, he saw a basin by the door, with a dozen or so loaches wriggling in it.

"What the heck is this?" He never expected that the fish he wanted was a loach. Well, loach counts as a fish.

Xu Shuai had just walked over and was about to say something when Xing Baohua spoke first, asking, "Did you buy the meat this morning or did you pick it yourself?"

"It was delivered from the cafeteria," Xu Shuai said.

"Um, this is all you're giving me?" Xing Baohua said, pointing to the basin.

"No! There's still a little meat left, and two chickens that are a bit undercooked," Xu Shuai said.

"What kind of chicken is a chicken that lacks meat?" Xu Shuai's question caught Xing Baohua off guard.

As Xu Shuai explained the process of the canteen staff delivering meat, and Xing Baohua looked at the marinated meat, he understood everything. A million thoughts raced through his mind.

Do you think it's easy for him to cheat on this little bit of stuff? And he even shortchanged him. It's not easy to reason with him about this.

I hope that when I go to the finance department this afternoon to collect the 150 yuan advance payment, they won't find any excuse to deduct anything.

The three of them didn't go to the cafeteria for lunch; instead, they cut some meat and made shredded pork noodles at a shop.

These days, eating meat isn't easy; you're lucky if you can have it once a week. Of course, eating in the cafeteria is also expensive, so everyone tries to save money on their food rations.

I was planning to make some grilled fish for dinner, but I ended up having loach instead. Grilled loach seems pretty good, but I don't know if foreigners would eat it. Maybe I should add some silkworm pupae as well?
