Chapter 32 Site Selection

Since the Foreign Affairs Office staff came, Xing Baohua, the temporary translator, didn't need to work, so he naturally stepped down. He had Xu Shuai prepare twice the amount of ingredients for yesterday's hot pot, filled out the order form, and got Director Liu's signature.

Director Liu looked at the list and then at Xing Baohua, saying, "Didn't I give you a slip to pick up the goods from the cafeteria? Why are you buying them from outside?"

"The cafeteria said they didn't have any?" Xing Baohua replied.

"No, we had mutton soup yesterday, how could there be no mutton?" Director Liu asked curiously.

"You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? I went to the cafeteria manager, and he said he didn't have any. I had no choice but to buy it from outside," Xing Baohua complained.

"I'll ask around later. I'll leave the order here for now. Don't try to pull any tricks on me again, or you'll have to pay for it yourself," Director Liu said.

"How could I? Director, you have to reimburse me for this. I'm completely broke."

"We'll have to wait and see what happens. You can make another trip this afternoon. Do you think the note will fly away if I leave it here?" Director Liu said, sounding impatient.

Seeing that the other party didn't seem to like him, Xing Baohua decided not to make a fool of himself and just leave.

When they arrived at Suya's side, Xing Baohua asked to use the computer.

"No problem at all," Xing Baohua said as he entered the computer room. Su Ya said from behind, "You're not wearing shoe covers."

"I've never liked wearing condoms, you'll see why I don't wear them later," Xing Baohua said with a wicked grin.

"Why?" Su Ya didn't understand and quickly asked.

"Because I don't like it."

"Ugh, do you want some water? I'll get you some," Su Ya asked with concern.

"I won't drink, I'll be done here in a bit." With that, Xing Baohua turned on the phone.

Two contracts were quickly printed out: one was the shareholding agreement for the shell company partnership, and the other was the transaction agreement with Petermont. Several copies of each were then printed out.

After finishing all that, Su Ya returned to her office. Looking around the room, she asked herself, "Where's Liu Juanjuan?"

"They haven't arrived yet. I wonder if they've taken leave," Su Ya said.

Seeing that Xing Baohua was about to close the door, Su Ya quickly went over to stop her, saying, "It's working hours now, don't close the door, someone could come at any time."

Xing Baohua smiled slightly and said, "What's there to be afraid of? I'll just..."

Before he could finish speaking, Liu Juanjuan appeared, her appearance somewhat changed.

Xing Baohua thought to himself, "These people! You really can't talk about them. The moment you do, they appear."

He said goodbye to Su Ya and left first; he was busy.

Su Ya stared at his retreating figure for a long time before turning around. Seeing Liu Juanjuan looking at her, she instinctively asked, "Sister Juan, why are you looking at me?"

"Are you two really dating?" Liu Juanjuan asked curiously.

Seeing that Su Ya blushed slightly again and remained silent, this person knew the outcome.

"Have you really thought it through?" Liu Juanjuan asked again with concern.

Su Ya nodded slightly; she couldn't bring herself to say it, so she could only tacitly agree.

"Alright, let's talk it over for now. Don't let that kid get away with it, and you be careful too," Liu Juanjuan continued to nag.

Su Ya looked up and nodded to Liu Juanjuan, indicating that she understood. Suddenly, she noticed that Liu Juanjuan looked different today; she seemed to be wearing makeup.

"Sister Juan, I just noticed why you're wearing lipstick and a skirt. What's going on? You're dressed so stylishly." Su Ya asked as she came over.

"There's nothing fancy about it, it's just some casual makeup. Women should dress up a bit. Look at your braid, you should undo it and get a perm to look good," Liu Juanjuan said.

"No way!" Su Ya chuckled softly as she returned to her desk, smiling foolishly, seemingly lost in thought.

Xing Baohua has been very busy these past few days, riding Liu Quan's bicycle to the countryside.

The construction of our own base started with site selection. Besides choosing a good location, we also had to deal with township leaders.

Location was key; we searched several places before finally finding a dilapidated factory on the outskirts of the city, near the national highway. The factory gates were locked, and the gates were covered in rust.

He probably closed it down because he couldn't keep the business going. As for what the factory produced, he doesn't know.

"Grandpa, can I ask you something?" Xing Baohua saw someone coming and quickly went up to ask. Luckily, he had two packs of cigarettes in his pocket, which he hurriedly took out and handed over.

The passerby stopped and took the cigarette. He looked at the filter before putting it in his mouth, and Xing Baohua lit it for him before asking, "What can I do for you?"

"Why is this place closed?" Xing Baohua said, pointing to the dilapidated factory.

"Oh, the straw rope factory you're talking about! It went out of business a few years ago," said the old man on the street.

"Who's in charge of this place?!"

"Let me tell you about Shanggu Village up ahead! This used to be the main courtyard of Shanggu Village. It was a place specifically for threshing and drying grain. Back when it was still a production team, the harvested wheat was threshed here, and the wheat stalks were processed into straw ropes. When business was good, this factory was built."

The passerby held the cigarette between two fingers and took a couple of puffs before speaking.

"Why did it fail?" Xing Baohua asked curiously.

"After the production team split up, everyone wanted to take over the straw rope factory, but in the end, no one from the brigade gave it to anyone. At that time, everyone was busy farming their own land, and the factory was short-handed. Production costs were high, and prices couldn't come down. People thought the straw ropes we sold were too expensive, so it slowly went out of business."

"Grandpa, how do you know so much? You're also from Shanggu Village," Xing Baohua asked casually, not expecting to find out so much detail.

"I am Huang Shunan, the Party Secretary of Shangguzhuang. I'd like to ask you, what are you asking about the factory for?"

Xing Baohua smiled awkwardly; he hadn't expected to run into the person he was trying to find out.
