The fifth workshop was delayed for two hours due to the leaders' impassioned speeches, and Xing Baohua had no idea where they got so much to say.
There was no other way but to bite the bullet and go along with it.
After the leaders finished speaking, Xing Baohua waved his hand and signaled the workers to take their posts and begin work.
Afterwards, he accompanied the leaders on a tour of the production line. The only slightly embarrassing thing for Xing Baohua was the efficiency issue; it was too slow.
There's no other way; this is the speed we're going to use. If we go any faster, the chips won't be able to keep up, and then we'll have to stop production again.
As the first calculator was produced, Factory Director Li excitedly pressed the buttons, listening to the catchy sound, his smile never fading. Reporters from the factory's publicity department and the city newspaper kept taking pictures.
The press release is all written; we're just waiting for the photos to be developed so we can send them to the newspaper office this afternoon.
After the ceremony was over, it was almost noon. Xing Baohua had lunch with the leaders in the small canteen as a celebration.
When Liu Quan went to work in the afternoon, he found Xing Baohua and said, "Hua Zi, didn't you tell me last night to collect the defective boards and label them?"
"Yes, what's wrong?" Xing Baohua nodded in response.
"Can't find the faulty board?"
"How could it not be found? Was it stolen from the workshop?" Xing Baohua immediately thought it had been stolen.
"Probably not. I went to look for it after I found it at noon, and I found it in the warehouse." As he spoke, Liu Quan showed Xing Baohua the note with the label.
"Did someone move the defective boards to the warehouse?" Xing Baohua asked in surprise, then asked urgently, "How many boards with soldered components are prepared in the warehouse?"
"I didn't count, but during the training, we stored all the good boards in the warehouse. I estimate there are five or six hundred, or maybe more." Liu Quan wasn't sure if he was sweating from the heat or from fear. In any case, his forehead was covered in beads of sweat.
If defective boards actually make it onto the production line and are manufactured, that's a production quality incident. And since he's the shift leader for the day shift, he has to take responsibility.
"Who is in charge of the materials room?" Xing Baohua asked.
“Wang Qiang said he didn’t know what happened either. I asked him a lot of questions and he didn’t know anything. He even got impatient and got angry at me,” Liu Quan said.
"Let's go take a look." With that, he led Liu Quan toward the material storage room.
The man named Wang Qiang was dozing off at the table. On the table was a notebook filled with signatures of people who had received materials.
Xing Baohua walked to the table, knocked on it, and picked up the material requisition book to look at it.
Wang Qiang was woken up by the knocking. His eyes were still blurry, and he asked with an annoyed expression, "What are you knocking for? Go find the materials yourself and sign them yourself."
While he was talking, he lay down to sleep again.
“Sleep? Sleep my ass! I’m asking you, where did you put all those broken boards?” Xing Baohua shouted, slapping Wang Qiang on the head.
"Damn it, oh! Director." Wang Qiang cursed angrily after being slapped on the head, but when he looked up and saw Xing Baohua, his tone changed.
"I'm asking you, where did the faulty board go?"
"I don't know! I've never seen a defective product! Nobody gave it to me! Look at the receipt, I didn't sign for it." Wang Qiang hurriedly explained. Then he saw Liu Quan and glared at him fiercely.
If Liu Quan hadn't come looking for some bad board, he wouldn't even know what a bad board looked like. Now that the director has been brought here to find a bad board, how is he supposed to know? Isn't this clearly just asking for trouble?
"Don't know? Hmph, then you should have a record of how many finished boards there are, how many finished boards there are in total, and how many finished boards were shipped out today." Xing Baohua asked in a stern tone.
"I don't know! Nobody told me to take inventory. They just left the goods there, signed off on the quantity, and left. If there are any discrepancies, you should go to whoever signed it! It's no use coming to me," Wang Qiang said, trying to justify his argument.
Enraged, Xing Baohua grabbed him by the collar and pulled him up from his seat.
"What are you going to do? Let me tell you, I'm not afraid of you." Wang Qiang's face turned green with fear, but he still gritted his teeth and tried to be tough.
"What use are you to me?" he said, throwing Wang Qiang back into the chair and turning to leave in anger.
"Liu Quan ordered the entire production line to stop and told me to find all those faulty boards!" Xing Baohua shouted angrily.
Because the shouting was so loud, the nearby workers heard it and looked at Xing Baohua in surprise.
Liu Quan, who followed from behind, replied, "Yes."
He leaned closer to Xing Baohua and whispered, "Why don't you go and report this to your superiors first, and I'll take some people to double-check it?"
Xing Baohua understood Liu Quan's meaning. Someone was trying to sabotage him. Stopping production was a serious matter; it needed to be reported to the leadership immediately.
"Okay, you keep an eye on things, I'll go see the factory manager." With that, he left.
Xing Baohua stopped at the workshop entrance. He turned to look at the duty room, then walked over.
Upon opening the door, one sees Hou Liwei smoking and reading a newspaper, while Hong Mingliang hums a song as he flips through Deng Xiaoping's theoretical books.
Xing Baohua coughed twice, attracting the attention of the two men.
Hou Liwei put down his newspaper, remained seated, glanced at who it was, and then picked up the newspaper again.
Hong Mingliang put down the book in his hand without moving it, the only thing he did was speak: "The director is here, is there something you need?"
"There's been a problem with production, so I'll stop production to let you know. Hou Liwei, your quality control team, please work with the other team to find the circuit boards with quality issues. Hong Mingliang, you're in charge of supervising and checking carefully." After saying that, Xing Baohua turned and left, slamming the door shut as he went.
