Chapter 604 A Big Misunderstanding

Lacking help, Wang Dalu temporarily hired this young man, paying him 100 yuan a day and covering his gas expenses.

The taxi fares were quite high, so the driver found someone to help him run the taxis. He borrowed a car specifically for Wang Dalu as his personal car.

Don't underestimate Shandong and Qinghai these days. Because of the seaport, many foreign cars have a place to dock after they disembark.

Some people who get rich specifically choose these kinds of cargo trucks.

Three days later, Wang Dalu received a call from his cousin, who said that someone from the rice foreign trade department at the harbor would contact him later to hand over some paperwork.

The rice export department called him and asked him to go to the rice office here.

The driver was surprised to learn that the boss was involved in rice exports and thought he was incredibly impressive.

Wang Dalu was too embarrassed to admit that Xing Baohua had kicked him twice.

Upon arriving at the rice foreign trade office in Shandong and Qinghai, we obtained the import order catalog.

To facilitate exports, the people of Ermao turned everything into scrap equipment, scrap vehicles, scrap materials, and so on.

The faxed message needs to be registered with customs. The rice has already completed the preliminary customs declaration procedures. After the ship arrives at the port, Wang Dalu only needs to take the bill of lading to pick up the goods. Once the railcar arrives and the goods are loaded, there's nothing else to do.

It's that simple a job.

Holding the paperwork, Wang Dalu said to the driver in the car, "For such simple goods, why did you have to make me come all the way back from Japan? Couldn't you have just found someone else?"

The driver stayed close to Wang Dalu the whole time. When Wang Dalu looked at the form, the driver also glanced at it a few times. He had seen the list of scrapped vehicles.

He then said to Wang Dalu, "Hey buddy, I just saw some scrapped vehicles on the shipment manifest. Hey, could you spare a few for me? Don't worry, money's no problem."

They know perfectly well whether or not it should be scrapped.

Wang Dalu said, "This batch of goods isn't mine. I'm just running errands. Let's see how things go first. If you really want scrapped cars, I can get them for you from my R-license! I have connections there that specialize in scrapped cars, they're all one or two years old!"

"real?"

"Why would I lie to you? It's just that the big boss took all those parts and dismantled them in Malaysia to sell. It's just that the steering wheel is the wrong one, so it's hard for us to get it here."

"It's alright, it can be modified. My brother-in-law works at a state-owned auto repair shop, and there's no car he can't modify. How many do you have?"

"We'll talk about that later. First, get this batch of goods sorted out for me, and then I'll see how to get it out of Malaysia for you," Wang Dalu said.

Actually, he was also envious of those cars; most of them were high-end cars! Although those cars brought him a lot of money, he felt bad about dismantling them.

Wang Dalu was also informed of the goods' arrival at the port, but he was not told to rush to pick them up. He was told that the goods were currently undergoing customs clearance and to wait.

Three days passed in a row. Wang Dalu was puzzled. How much cargo was there? Why did it take so long to clear customs?

On the fifth day, Wang Dalu was finally notified to pick up the goods. Upon arriving at the dock, before he even saw the goods, they were surrounded.

Three new flat-head Jiefang trucks were blocked by cars in front, left and rear. Then, many soldiers carrying weapons were pulled out of the trucks, followed by many police cars with flashing lights entering the scene.

Dozens of soldiers with guns pointed at the car windows—who wouldn't be afraid of that?! It even caused urination.

The driver asked Wang Dalu in a panic, "Brother, your goods aren't contraband, are they?"

"Probably not, there's no such thing as contraband rice."

"What are they doing?"

"You're asking me? Who should I ask? Oh, I'll make a phone call first."

Just as they picked up the phone, the glass window was smashed, and then the two people were dragged out.

There was a two-story building in the port that was used as a temporary interrogation room.

Wang Dalu was handcuffed to a chair, feeling that he had a bad feeling about Luqing, and that he had to go in and explain himself every time he came.

"What's your name? Age? Family?" The person asking the questions followed a very formal process.

Wang Dalu answered readily, having experienced it firsthand.

What are you doing here?

"Pick up the goods."

What goods are you picking up?

"Scrap metal, discarded equipment, and scrapped vehicles, etc."

The interrogator stared at him and said sternly, "Do you know what our policy is? If not, let me tell you again: those who resist will be severely punished, while those who confess will be leniently punished. I hope you will honestly confess."

Wang Dalu said with a bitter face, "Comrade, I'm innocent! I'm telling the truth. You can see from the documents that it says 'scrapped equipment, scrapped vehicles' and stuff like that."

"You're trying to get away with these words, aren't you! We've seen your tricks all the time, but we've never seen anything as lawless as you. Do you really think we, the customs and the government, are blind? If this batch of your goods gets exposed, it will be a huge scandal."

Wang Dalu was dumbfounded. He was just there to pick up some goods, what was the big deal? According to his cousin's tip, these goods were originally intended for Zhang Gang to use in steelmaking, but his cheap brother-in-law snatched them away and had his cousin handle the deal. Wasn't it supposed to be that all the connections had been made?

Why are they being detained now?

This is a mess.

After a long interrogation, seeing that Wang Dalu was very stubborn and refused to cooperate, in order to make him give up, they forced him to go see the seized goods.

When we arrived at the scene, all we saw were junk and scrap metal, just those abandoned vehicles, all of which were well-maintained tractor trucks.

The driver accompanied him. Knowing nothing, how could he possibly explain himself? So they drove together to inspect the scene.

I've seen Katyusha rockets in movies quite a few. Now, is this the scrapped equipment he's talking about?

T series, 34/54/64, are these what you mean by scrapped vehicles?

They've tested it and found it performs well; it can be started and launched.

Especially 64, who was a main force on the South Vietnamese battlefield a few years ago.
