Ever since Xiao Tian was treated like a donkey by Xing Baohua, he has never been able to enjoy life properly. He is either working overtime or on his way to work overtime.
Even when he returned to his and Geng Rui's temporary residence, he still had to make some system-related changes according to Xing Baohua's wishes. Sometimes he also had to act as a hardware stylist and software developer.
There's always code to write, and driver programs to develop.
Even when I have nothing to do, I have to use a soldering iron to modify the circuitry on the motherboard. I don't even get enough sleep, so what's the point of talking about life?
He didn't know what Geng Rui had been busy with lately, and she was coming home late. He knew that what Xing Baohua was telling Geng Rui was an important mission, but of course, he also knew about the confidentiality rules and couldn't ask! Even if Geng Rui revealed a little bit, he couldn't listen.
Xiao Tian got back to his place around 12 o'clock that day. When he opened the door and saw that the room was dark and sparse, he knew that Geng Rui had not returned.
He still had a program to connect a camera to a hard drive that he hadn't written, and he also hadn't optimized the digital camera system. Although Xing Baohua hadn't given him a deadline, he knew that the boss was in a real hurry to use it.
He turned on the light, dragged his heavy body like a zombie, and staggered to his workbench, taking everything out of his briefcase.
Around one o'clock, Geng Rui returned with two men who looked to be in their thirties.
Xiao Tian slowly turned his neck, paused slightly when he saw the two of them, and then looked at Geng Rui.
“My colleague from China hasn’t had her identity confirmed yet, so she’s staying here for the night,” Geng Rui said.
Xiao Tian didn't say anything, just nodded and said, "Sorry, it's a bit messy, please sit wherever you like."
At this moment, Geng Rui took out her phone and dialed a number. After the other party answered, she said in dialect, "There's no tail following, you can go back and rest now."
After confirming their safety, Geng Rui introduced them to Xiao Tian, saying, "This is Lao Wang, and this is Lao Zhang. I'll make them something to eat first."
Xiao Tianna turned to her again and said, "Don't stand, sit down and rest for a while. Don't act like an outsider, there's a kettle over there, just pour yourself some water."
Old Zhang and Old Wang waved their hands and said, "No need to be polite."
Hearing Xiao Tian's words from the small kitchen, Geng Rui stuck her head out and said, "Old Xiao, you can just say you're lazy. When guests come, you don't even move. Is your butt nailed or glued to it?"
Xiao Tian first smiled wryly at the two guests, then said to Geng Rui, "I'm exhausted. That damn Xing Baohua dumped all the work on me and didn't even send anyone to help me."
"Alright, stop scolding him. If you weren't so capable, he wouldn't have been handed over to you." Geng Rui said, walking out of the kitchen to pour water for her two colleagues.
Old Wang stood up with a smile and said, "I can do it myself, I can do it myself."
Geng Rui said, "You've been stuck at the bottom of the sea for almost a day. Have something to eat and get some rest. I'm sorry, the housing prices here in Japan are high and the place is small, so you'll have to make do with sleeping on the floor for now."
Old Zhang shook his head and said, "Sleeping on the ground is already good enough. Sometimes we have no choice but to sleep on the ground in the middle of nowhere."
As he spoke, Old Zhang stood up, walked over to Xiao Tian, looked at the pile of parts on his desk, and asked, "Is this a camera? How come it uses so many electronic components!"
"This is Nikon's latest digital camera. No film is required. Our boss asked me to modify it for him. Apart from the outer shell, the internal electronics have been almost completely replaced."
Old Zhang shook his head and said, "With electricity, it's only this big, not suitable for carrying around, limiting its use in different environments. It's not as good as a mechanical miniature camera. It's about the size of two fingers, making it easy to hide."
“Each has its advantages. Digital cameras are fast. After taking a picture, you can connect it to a computer and see the image. There needs to be a printer nearby so you can print it out directly, whether it's black and white or color. It would be great if there were a printer specifically for printing on photo paper. But it won't be long before it's developed,” Xiao Tianna said.
"Is there anything I can help with? I have experience soldering electronic components, so I can lend you a hand," Old Zhang offered to help.
"That's great, thank you so much. Could you help me clean out these solder feet, solder them to these contacts with enameled wire, and then solder the other end to the solder feet of the micro hard drive interface slot?" Xiao Tian didn't take Lao Zhang's polite words seriously, nor did he treat him like an outsider. He was very happy to have someone help him, and he wanted to get the work done quickly so he could go to bed early.
Geng Rui heard this in the kitchen and gave a helpless look.
The next day, Geng Rui came to Xing Baohua's office and said that the two people he needed had been sent from China. These two had been to Japan before, and their Japanese was so fluent that even the locals couldn't understand them.
"You've settled in," Xing Baohua asked.
“They’re temporarily staying at our rented place. The two arrived yesterday evening, and I picked them up from the west coast. They don’t have legal status, so I had to take them to my place first,” Geng Rui said.
“In the future, we need to prepare for these kinds of things in advance. It’s best not to leave anyone with you. The Japanese are very wary. Even I, the top leader, can’t fully understand my company. They keep everything from me. They’re using the tactic of ‘they think those who are not of our kind will have different intentions’!” Xing Baohua said with a sigh.
“Your intentions weren’t pure to begin with, so you’d have to be even more vigilant. Once your documents are ready, I’ll hand them over. It’s alright, I’ll head back now,” Geng Rui said.
"Wait a minute!" Xing Baohua said, taking a small piece of paper from the drawer and handing it to Geng Rui. He added, "These are two places to live. Have someone send them there. Give them some money as living expenses and buy them a pager for communication."
"Okay!" Geng Rui nodded and went back.
When Xiao Tianna returned home late at night, he saw the two men still there and asked Geng Rui in surprise, "Didn't the boss arrange accommodations for the two of you?"
