After leaving Liu Haibo's place, Xing Baohua went directly to Shangguzhuang.
I went to the factory construction site first and saw Xu Shuai leading people to clean up the construction waste in the factory.
Finally, we have someone from our own team supervising the factory. Before, we were basically left to our own devices. Now that there's someone to keep an eye on things, the progress will be faster.
Not seeing Secretary Huang, Xing Baohua rode his bicycle directly to his house. Fortunately, Secretary Huang returned from outside just as he entered.
"Xiao Xing is here, come in quickly, I just came back from the village committee." Secretary Huang said to Xing Baohua as he opened the door.
Upon entering the courtyard, a pungent, musty smell hit you. There's no way around it; almost every family in the countryside raises livestock. The Party Secretary's family was no exception; the smell of the two sheep, especially in summer, was unimaginable.
Secretary Huang did not invite Xing Baohua into the house, even though it was even more stuffy inside. Instead, he placed a table against the west wall with several teacups on it.
Secretary Huang carried a watermelon out of the west room, put it in a bucket, and threw it directly into the well.
After sitting down, Xing Baohua immediately picked up the kettle, poured water into his cup, and rinsed it. He then splashed the water on the floor, refilled the cup, and gulped down a few mouthfuls.
Although I didn't drink any alcohol at noon, I also drank very little water, plus there was a girl sitting next to me. I dared to look but not to move, I felt a bit heartburned, and my throat suddenly felt dry.
Xing Baohua arrived before Zhang Taoming returned. Anyway, the matter had already been handed over to Liu Haibo.
"Uncle Huang, I heard from Xu Shuai that you were looking for me?" Xing Baohua felt much better after drinking a glass of cool water.
Secretary Huang sat down and took out a few cigarettes from his pocket; he only had a few left. Xing Baohua quickly took out his own, pulled out two, and handed them to Secretary Huang, placing the rest on the table.
"When the factory was being built, some of the sand, gravel, and lime were carried and pushed over by villagers. They don't usually have any other source of income, so delivering materials to the construction site helps supplement their household income. Now that it's almost finished, it's time to settle accounts with them," Secretary Huang said, puffing on his cigarette.
“Okay, give Xu Shuai a total number. I’ll send it over to you in a couple of days,” Xing Baohua nodded in agreement.
"Also, the school needs some money. School starts in a few days, and the children's desks and chairs need to be repaired. The broken glass in the school windows also needs to be replaced. There are quite a few small things that need to be repaired," Secretary Huang continued.
Xing Baohua nodded in agreement. This money was indeed necessary. To encourage his children to attend school, Xing Baohua had gone to great lengths, waiving all textbooks and tuition fees. However, this only applied to Shanggu Village.
Now that the factory has more money, it's gradually reducing tuition fees for the neighboring villages. Otherwise, everyone would flock to these free schools, putting a lot of pressure on them, especially since those few dilapidated classrooms can't hold all the students.
"Uncle Huang, just give me the total amount. Here's what we'll do: I'll leave you 100 yuan first, use it to get the necessary repairs done. If that's not enough, you can pay me back for ten days or half a month. I have some funds arriving soon, and we'll settle everything then." Xing Baohua knew Liu Haibo's money was almost there, though he didn't know how he got it or if it was legal. Xing Baohua didn't care; he was desperately short of money anyway.
“If anyone in the village asks you for this or that, just push it onto me,” Secretary Huang added.
Xing Baohua smiled slightly and said, "Okay, with you looking after things, I'm much less worried. Uncle Huang, does the land around the factory belong to the village or the town?"
"You still want to expand? Let's talk about it after you see some profits from production. The factory is bordered by the threshing grounds of Shilibao to the west and Jiangzhuang to the north. They're both using it for the wheat and autumn harvests. If you take up land, where will they dry their grain? And with three villages sharing land, it'll be a lot of trouble," Secretary Huang sighed.
"I'm just asking, we'll talk about it later. If things develop well, three villages are fine. There's always a place to dry the grain." Xing Baohua said, recalling the scenes of farmers drying grain in his previous life, directly drying the harvested grain on the road.
The villagers are not afraid of danger; as long as there is a road, they will be exposed to the sun even when the water truck comes.
After returning to the machinery factory from Secretary Huang's place, Xing Baohua went to work. Although he could rest, this didn't affect his work.
"The director is here. Are you feeling better? Why don't you take a break?" A worker greeted me as I entered the workshop.
Xing Baohua smiled and said it was nothing.
Along the way, all I encountered were words of concern. But when I saw Hong Mingliang and Hou Liwei, Xing Baohua raised his voice slightly and said, "I'm not leaving the front line because of this minor injury, just to urge you to speed up production. I'm afraid that if I, the tiger, am not here, the monkey will become king."
The day shift was Liu Quan's subordinate, considered his own core group, so it didn't matter if they joked around. This remark caused the other workers to burst into laughter, all understanding what Xing Baohua meant.
After glancing at Hou Liwei and Hong Mingliang, Xing Baohua returned to his office. He turned on the fan and prepared to pour water. Liu Quan came over and took the thermos from him, saying, "You didn't even get two more days off."
"You can't stay idle! Da Meizi wrote to say that the stereo system has been sold and they need to place an order. I was thinking that you could work overtime tonight to help Niu Jishan, and if that's not enough, find a helper to bring both of them out."
"Okay, I'm free after get off work anyway. How's Xu Shuai?" Liu Quan asked with concern.
“He’s fine. I’ll tell you something important later. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think it’s best for you to work by my side. Well, I’ll give you time to choose. I’ll respect your opinion.” Xing Baohua still didn’t tell him about his factory.
Liu Quan was a good person, the kind who buried himself in his work and was good at research. Initially, Xing Baohua planned to hand over the workshop to Liu Quan after he left, and since his uncle was Director Liu, not many people dared to bully him.
It seems the other two are not friendly at all! Liu Quan is no match for them in their scheming.
It would be better to have Liu Quan by my side and work on research and development together. Training Liu Quan would be very useful.
