“But they are all established companies, with at least a century of brand accumulation, while we have only been around for a few years,” said Secretary Dong.
"What's there to be afraid of in a few years? Home appliances are already electronic products. As technology gradually improves and updates, whoever provides better service and has more advanced product technology will be able to dominate the market. Brand is one aspect, but more importantly, quality and service are even more important," Xing Baohua said as he walked through the workshop.
“Competing domestically is pointless. Besides, with such expensive products, ordinary people can only look at them and hear the price. Those who can afford them will probably choose imported brands. Only a minority will buy our products. As long as we can beat other brands abroad, and people have more money and can afford them, then we can enter the domestic market.”
As Xing Baohua spoke, he noticed a workshop where fans were being assembled. Xing Baohua walked over to take a look and said to Secretary Dong, "It's already autumn, do we have any of those radiator fans?"
"A heater? Is it an electric heater? I don't really have one. Don't air conditioners have a built-in heater?" Secretary Dong looked at the people following him, thought for a moment, and then replied.
"That approach won't work. We need electric radiators and electric heaters. Do you know how cold Hokkaido gets every year?"
Secretary Dong: "..."
They were having a nice conversation, and suddenly the topic shifted to Hokkaido. Why not mention that Siberia is even colder?
Everyone around felt that the boss's thought process was too fast and they couldn't keep up.
Therefore, at Xing Baohua's request, the home appliance R&D department was given another public relations task: to design heaters for the people of Hokkaido to solve their heating problems.
It's said that the Japanese used kerosene for heating, but oil is so expensive! Even those with better conditions could use charcoal, which was cheaper than kerosene.
Japan is a resource-scarce country. Not to mention coal, they have to import it if they want to use it. Even if they could use it, the Japanese environmental regulations wouldn't allow it.
Almost every household used kerosene stoves for heating. Xing Baohua had spent a long time in Japan and understood these issues.
Why not use electricity? Electricity is expensive!
So, Secretary Dong called over Sun Zhenjie and Engineer Sun from the home appliance R&D department to listen to the boss's ideas and requirements.
"A heater fan is just like a regular fan, with a reflector inside. Tungsten filament, halogen tube, or nickel-chromium wire will all work."
After Xing Baohua finished speaking, the engineer Sun who had rushed over said, "Mr. Xing, tungsten wire has high resistance and consumes a lot of electricity. The heating area is also not large; only a two- or three-meter area can feel the heat source, while other areas remain cold."
Xing Baohua asked, "Have you studied this before?"
"We've done similar tests. Take a 15-square-meter room for example. This thing heats up quickly but cools down quickly too. It can only heat one side of the room, so the temperature of the whole room can't be raised," Mr. Sun replied.
"Go ahead and find a way to reduce the power consumption, whatever saves electricity."
As soon as Xing Baohua finished speaking, Engineer Sun shook his head and said, "The power can be reduced, but it should not exceed 1500W. Otherwise, the wires won't be able to handle it. I don't know if the Japanese wires are copper or aluminum. What size wire do they use in their homes? Take our local households for example, they are basically aluminum wires, with 4 square millimeters for the main line and 2 square millimeters for the auxiliary wires inside. 1500W is dangerous. It's easy to burn and could cause a fire."
"Then go ahead and make it to 1500W, produce a batch first, see the actual effect, and it would be best if it could save some money, so we can say it's environmentally friendly and economical when we advertise it!"
"You can't save on electricity consumption. The power rating represents the amount of electricity used. This is the law of conservation of energy. 1000W is the standard unit of electricity. As long as the power rating is marked on the appliance, it means that the amount of electricity used is 1.5 units per hour."
What they said is correct; that's how it's calculated. Xing Baohua remembers how many small electric heaters and electric fans were advertised back then, claiming that using their products would definitely save half the electricity.
Especially those using the term "graphene" – that's where the real trap lies! Xing Baohua has been researching graphene for a long time, investing a lot of money, but still hasn't figured out how to commercialize it.
That's what the advertisements said, and Xing Baohua hadn't used it himself, but according to Engineer Sun, it was indeed true; the power rating was set according to the amount of electricity used, which was correct.
Unless a chip is used to add temperature control.
This is indeed a way to save electricity; currently, good air conditioners use this method to conserve energy.
Xing Baohua said, "It can be made like a radiator, with water or oil inside, and a heating element to raise the temperature. The temperature can be set, and when the set temperature is reached, the heating element stops heating. When the ambient temperature drops, the sensor will detect it and automatically reheat."
“This…” Engineer Sun shook his head and said, “I’ve never done this before! I don’t know where to find replacement sensors, but the temperature controllers in electric heaters are easy to find.”
"If we don't have one, we'll make one. The rice technology lab has plenty of engineers; can't they make a temperature sensor?" Xing Baohua pointed in the direction of the rice factory's experimental building and said loudly.
Engineer Sun nodded and said, "Then let's give it a try. General Manager Xing, Factory Director Dong, I'll go back and think about my ideas first."
"Go ahead! Think about that heater too, don't use iron for the casing, use plastic."
After turning around, Engineer Sun turned back and nodded to Xing Baohua, indicating that he understood. It wasn't until he was on his way back that he realized what General Manager Xing meant.
If it were him, his first thought would be to use a sheet of iron for the outer casing and add a heat-resistant handle, since this kind of thing is easy to burn and can easily be used as a ignition source. Using a sheet of iron would be equivalent to making it flame-retardant.
But General Xing ordered the use of plastic, which would start a fire! Plus, burning plastic would produce a lot of smoke and odor; even if it didn't burn the Japanese soldiers to death, it would suffocate them.
