Chapter 686 Sharing Weal and Woe?

(Wishing everyone a Happy New Year 2024!)

That blow made Xing Baohua realize what excruciating pain was; it felt like a giant hammer had struck his back.

The impact point was slightly below the left scapula, aimed at the heart. If Xing Baohua hadn't been wearing a bulletproof vest, the bullet would have rolled out of his body with a slight tumble, bringing his heart, lungs, and other organs with it. The wound at the front was as big as a bowl.

Let alone being able to receive timely treatment at the hospital, with such a large wound and missing organs, lying on the operating table waiting, even the doctors were helpless.

The bullets were already embedded in the bulletproof vest. Fortunately, the bulletproof vest that Xing Baohua had someone buy was of good quality. If Captain Han hadn't said that Xing Baohua was wearing two layers and looked bulky, he wouldn't have added an extra special steel plate.

This time, I'm truly out of danger. Before I could even feel grateful, the guards dragged me to the doctor's office in the ward. They examined me, but there were no external injuries. Since they couldn't see anything wrong, they could only take X-rays. But there weren't any large machines in the ward, so they had to push me to the outpatient building.

A common feature of hospitals in China is that outpatient buildings and inpatient wards are separate. This is probably to make the space seem larger, while smaller hospitals can only share one building.

Most of the people outside the ward building had run to a safe place, except for the two shifts of armed guards who had been assigned to patrol earlier, who rushed over to provide support. One of the guards who was fighting back saw this and quickly waved for them to enter the outpatient building and not appear in the open area.

Another point is equipment: a submachine gun and a Type 56 semi-automatic rifle. This equipment is enough to deal with ordinary bandits, but the opposing side not only has high ground but also accurate snipers. The submachine gun is out of the question; at a distance of only fifty meters, the Type 56 semi-automatic rifle is the only weapon that can be used for a firefight.

After the sniper rifle suppressed a burst of fire, it didn't fire again.

The police sent out two people, one for each gatepost, to hide behind and take aim, while the others carried out martial law enforcement at the gate.

After waiting a while, the guards felt that the sniper seemed to have already withdrawn. After all, he hadn't fired for a long time, and perhaps he thought that after hitting Xing Baohua, the mission was complete, so he withdrew first.

The squad leader glanced at the sniper position in the distance, took a deep breath, looked back, gave his comrades a few final instructions, and then charged towards the ward building, performing several evasive maneuvers. Just before reaching the ward, he leaped into the air, rolled once, pushed off the ground, and then launched himself into the ward.

These are all routine training movements, but soldiers rarely see them in actual combat. They were all trained by rolling and crawling during the battles in South Vietnam.

"You two, come back! Are you going to stick your heads out here and throw your lives away?" the junior guard captain said to the two soldiers behind the doorpost as he entered.

Peeking out to aim is a major taboo. When dealing with a sniper, you need to hide yourself first. If you're not confident you can retaliate, don't show your face. This kind of confrontation is not just a psychological battle. Whoever gets agitated will lose, and lose their life.

Call the people in, find their squad leader, and start assigning tasks. The first task is to send someone to reassure the people in the ward building, telling them it's a drill and they shouldn't panic.

Regardless of whether they believe it or not, just say this: the combat mission is assigned to them as guards. If their seven or eight guards outside are all killed, both squads are to prevent anyone from leaving. Seal the gate to avoid innocent casualties. Hold the gate firmly until reinforcements arrive.

“We can fight too!” one of the warriors said.

The squad leader looked at the young man who had spoken, patted him on the shoulder and said, "I am not your commander, but as a veteran, your initial mission is to patrol and maintain order. External combat will be handled by us veterans."

The soldier stood there, unsure how to respond. The guard captain said, "Let's exchange weapons. I'll return them to you in a bit." He then handed over the Type 81 rifle. The soldier hurriedly took off his Type 56 pistol from his shoulder and handed it to the guard captain.

Seeing the guards return to the courtyard, the soldier asked, "Squad leader, the Type 81 rifle is so advanced, why does he use the Type 56 semi-automatic rifle?"

"What the hell do I know! Maybe it's something from before. Maintaining order," the squad leader said, somewhat dissatisfied.

The reason for the anger was that the guard had just said that external combat operations would be carried out by their veterans.

This statement indicates a difference in military branches. In actual wartime, their military units would be considered the second echelon, and in certain areas, they might only be deployed after the reserves have been exhausted.

The military police only deal with internal bandits, robbers, and so on. Even if a few external forces infiltrate and cause trouble, they'll still fall under their control.

But today, they didn't have a chance to make a move.

Since filming couldn't continue for the time being, Xing Baohua had someone push him upstairs to check on Xiao Tianna. He finally understood why Xiao Tianna had been grimacing when he spoke to him; even breathing hurt him.

Upon arriving at the ward, they didn't see the guards on duty or Captain Han's men. Finally, the guard opened the door, crouched down, and looked inside, only to find no one there.

When looking at the room, I even did a tactic of evasion, peeking out briefly before quickly pulling back inside.

"Is no one inside?"

"Find, find, the surrounding rooms." Just those few words made Xing Baohua break out in a cold sweat from the pain.

They quickly found Xiao Tian's hidden room. This guy was incredibly lucky; he was just a hair's breadth away from being hit.

As luck would have it, Xing Baohua had someone buy some fruit. For some reason, he suddenly wanted to eat something. Geng Rui was able to walk, so she peeled an apple for him. Just as she was about to feed him, he opened his mouth and turned to the side. With that slow turn, he escaped unharmed.

Glass shattered, apple fell, and Geng Rui screamed. The guards outside rushed in and knew what had happened as soon as they saw the round hole in the glass.
