Grandpa Gong stood under a fig tree in his courtyard house, playing with the birds in their cages.
Suddenly I heard a noise at the door. I turned around and saw workers carrying things into my house.
"What's wrong with you all? Why are you just barging in like this?" Old Master Gong asked unhappily.
"Delivering home appliances to your house?" the worker stopped and replied.
"No, I didn't ask for any appliances! Did they deliver to the wrong address?" Old Master Gong asked in confusion.
"That's right! The girl behind me said it's right here. Sir, which room should we put these appliances in first?"
"Put it in the yard first, I'll go ask." Old Master Gong said, and was about to walk towards the gate.
Gong Qian led Su Ya and Yang Na in.
"Grandpa, I've brought a friend to see you." Gong Qian said as she walked to Grandpa Gong's side, affectionately taking his arm, and speaking in a slightly coquettish tone.
Grandpa Gong looked at Su Ya and Yang Na. He seemed to remember Yang Na a little, but he glanced at Su Ya a few more times.
When Su Ya met his gaze, she also greeted him with "Hello, Grandpa."
He then asked Yang Na, "Qian'er, you haven't been home for three days. What are you up to?"
"I'll tell you later, Grandpa. Let me make some arrangements for them first." With that, Gong Qian let go of the old man's arm and said to the delivery workers, "Put everything in the living room, and move the old TV and refrigerator to the west room."
Ignoring Gong Qian's shouting, Old Master Gong asked Su Ya, "Do you have something to ask of me?"
Su Ya smiled and replied, "Yes, Grandpa Gong."
"I stopped doing this many years ago, and since you are Qian'er's friends, you should know that. Besides, Qian'er is still quite naive, and it's not appropriate for you to try to appease her with these things. I've saved up some money over the years, so just name your price, and I'll have someone deliver it to you later. Please leave!"
“Grandpa Gong, these things may be valuable to ordinary people, but they are not valuable to you and me. They are just ordinary gifts. Besides, the main purpose of this visit is to get acquainted with your family and pay a visit.”
"It's not worth much money?" Old Master Gong looked at the various appliances and laughed in exasperation.
"Yes, it's made by our company. Qian'er likes our brand, so out of friendship, I gave her a set."
"Your family?" At this point, Old Master Gong paused for a moment, then began to think. In his memory, only state-owned factories could produce such large electrical appliances.
Does your dad know you're giving these away as gifts?
Su Ya shook her head slightly, feeling a little uneasy. What did sending gifts have to do with my dad?
"You young people! You use public property to curry favor. We don't need this stuff anyway."
After Grandpa Gong finished speaking, he tried to stop the workers from unpacking the boxes. Su Ya immediately understood the meaning behind his question; it turned out that the old man still thought these appliances were made in his father's factory.
She stepped forward and walked up to Grandpa Gong, saying hurriedly, "Grandpa Gong, you may have misunderstood. The factory is a private enterprise, and my partner is the factory manager. He has some health problems, but we can't find the cause. We would like to ask you to take his pulse."
"Your boyfriend?" Old Master Gong looked Su Ya up and down again. Seeing that Su Ya was young and beautiful, he couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
“Yes!” Su Ya nodded in response. Seeing Gong Qian come out of the house, she quickly went up to her and pulled her aside, saying, “Quickly explain to Grandpa. I feel he has a lot of misunderstandings.”
No matter how Gong Qian tried to coax the old man, he wouldn't agree to take a look. Finally, Gong Qian saw Su Ya and Yang Na out first and said, "My grandfather is a bit stubborn. Su Ya, you go back first. I'll talk to him and call you right away."
"Okay, thank you. Please do it as soon as possible. I don't know when my boyfriend will leave. He's usually very busy and can leave at any time," Su Ya said.
"OK!"
After Su Ya and Yang Na got into the car, Su Ya took Yang Na home first.
Later in the car, Yang Na recounted a story from her childhood about visiting Gong Qian's house and seeing her grandfather crying while holding a bottle.
When I was little, I was curious and asked Gong Qian why her grandfather was crying while holding the bottle.
Gong Qian said that her father was going abroad to study and needed money, so he wanted to sell the bottle to raise funds.
Suya asked, "Do you know who has that bottle?"
"How would I know! It might have already changed hands several times. What I mean is, Grandpa Gong might be interested in antiques."
"Do you know where I can find antiques?"
"Panjiayuan! That's where people who like collecting these things go to buy them."
"Do you understand?" Suya asked.
"don't know."
"Do you think we'll be scammed if we go there like this?" Su Ya asked.
Yang Na didn't know how to answer this question, and her mind was racing, trying to figure out who in her WeChat Moments was using this.
Afterwards, Su Ya called Xing Baohua and said she wanted to send something to an elder, preferably an old bottle.
Xing Baohua thought it was a trivial matter, but when he thought about who to ask, he suddenly realized that he didn't know anyone.
He doesn't collect these things; his home is mostly decorated with modern crafts. He feels that old objects can't compare to the beauty of modern handicrafts, and besides, they're cheaper.
This is a matter of personal perspective. Besides, given his status, he doesn't need old objects to highlight his wealth.
He thought of Poly Auction, which in later generations was basically full of VIPs of major auction houses, bidding on the most valuable items.
So he called Xie Yingying's second uncle, Xie Guangqing, exchanged a few polite words, and then explained his purpose: he wanted to buy an old item and wanted to see if anyone he knew could help him appraise it.
Xie Guangqing said that he actually knows someone like that, and he'll contact them later and have them call Xing Baohua.
