"Have you finished setting up the ports for the optical system? I'm planning to install a geological survey lens, as well as laser rangefinders and infrared remote sensing equipment," Xing Baohua asked.
“I’ve communicated with AVIC. We haven’t developed lasers or infrared technology, nor do we have any experts in this field. So they will provide us with hardware, and even drivers, so that we can integrate into the larger system,” Qiu Jun replied.
After glancing at Xing Baohua, he continued, "The optics team didn't provide any specific parameters either. They said they would handle the equipment and driver issues, but there's still a problem: how many meters of accuracy do we need? And how many pixels do we need on the display at our receiver to make it look clear? I have no idea."
“Oh dear, every step is difficult; we are facing numerous challenges. My initial estimate is that the exact height is over 1.5 meters.”
Qiu Jun shook his head and said, "According to the American standards, you're over the limit. Their commercial satellites are at least 10 meters high, while ours should be at 20 meters."
"Wouldn't 20 meters be too blurry, making it more difficult for the mapping team? Our optics are much worse, and our chips are just so-so. We don't want the digital photos sent back to be completely pixelated if we zoom in even slightly."
Qiu Jun shut up. He had never seen or come into contact with these things, so it was really not appropriate for him to say anything. However, he could use the parameters to develop algorithms to improve the clarity after the optical chip was developed, which was still within his field of expertise.
When it comes to hardware, there's really nothing we can do.
Xing Baohua tilted his head slightly to look at Qiu Jun, then changed the subject and asked, "Do you think our communication system can be cracked?"
"Yes. If you can go to the Iridium and GPS satellites of motorcycles, people can come over to your house for a visit."
Xing Baohua nodded and added, "I recently spoke on the phone with a friend in Japan. The call was encrypted, but the technical team detected that the line had been brute-forced and the data packets were being forcibly pulled."
Qiu Jun said, "You've all finished your call, so they can't decrypt it. Even if they could, they wouldn't be able to get your call information. Unless they completely intercept your call, including the encrypted kind, but that requires a computer with extremely high computing power and a lot of time to crack."
It depends on the strength of your encryption. A powerful machine might be able to crack it in a few days or weeks, which is somewhat useful. But if it takes years to crack, what's the point? Those large, powerful machines can't be occupied indefinitely, and the electricity costs are incredibly high.
“Yes! What I mean is that our satellite system also needs to be encrypted. Even if they crack our data, they will have to pay a heavy price,” Xing Baohua said.
Qiu Jun scratched his head and said, "Difficult!"
"Think of a way."
"Then I'll go ask the communications experts at AVIC how they defend against encryption."
Xing Baohua said, "I asked them, and they do reverse encryption. They regularly update the code with program instructions. They've programmed their own encryption algorithm. For example, M=A, B=P."
For example, the command for Device Manager is devmgmt.msc, which, after encryption, might become fhcatae.axj.
If I give you the code `fhcatae.axj`, you can understand it. But if someone intercepts this data and translates it, it will be full of incomprehensible English letters. This isn't gibberish; even gibberish follows certain patterns.
Qiu Jun nodded and said, "I understand. I'll go back and think about the encryption algorithm."
