With so many workers around, Lei Jun felt a little embarrassed.
I had no choice but to go to Liu Quan's office to sit for a while.
Liu Quan asked Lei Jun where he was from, what he studied in school, and how he met President Xing.
This is a basic document; some things aren't in the records.
For example, how did Xing Baohua come to regard him? This relates to whether they are close or distant.
Lei Jun wasn't stupid; he clearly saw that they were trying to find out about the close relationship between him and Xing Baohua. So he said that one of his senior classmates was very familiar with Xing Baohua and had recommended him to Xing Baohua.
They chatted for a while, mostly awkward small talk. As noon approached, Liu Quan grabbed Lei Jun, refusing to let him leave, insisting they eat at the factory canteen.
They also invited several workshop directors to sit with them, as well as two female group leaders.
A group of people urged Lei Jun to have lunch together.
Poor southerners, they'd never seen anything like it before. Coupled with the hospitable atmosphere of the people from central Shandong, it was a situation you couldn't refuse.
Lei Jun had learned the rules of the banquet. He initially said he wouldn't drink, but was eventually forced to take a small sip. But even that small sip was enough to keep him going.
The rule at drinking parties is that once you take a sip, you have to drink the rest.
Lei Jun, fresh out of school, was no match for these seasoned veterans; they even had to take turns with him.
Just two cups were enough to knock him out.
Liu Quan looked at Lei Jun, who was slumped over the table, and said, "You're overestimating yourself."
Everyone was watching him; sometimes his words carried more weight in the factory than those of Director Li.
Among the workshop foremen, some wanted Liu Quan's position. If Liu Quan were to become the group's vice president, many more positions would become available.
The only competition is between Lei Jun and Liu Quan; it's still unknown who will become the vice president.
A moment later, the door to the private room in the cafeteria opened.
Factory Director Li walked in with his hands behind his back, looked at everyone, then at Lei Jun slumped over the table, and said to them, "Have you all forgotten about factory discipline? No drinking on duty, no drinking while on duty. What are you all doing? Are you treating your work like a joke?"
"Old factory director, this is my fault, my fault. I'll write a self-criticism later," Liu Quan quickly stood up and apologized.
"You definitely have to write a self-criticism, and you have to do it in front of all the factory workers. Every single one of you is considered absent from work today, and you won't get your bonuses."
After saying that, Director Li turned and left.
Everyone was stunned. The bonus for rice was so generous! If it were deducted, it would be terrible. They all chased after the old factory director to plead for him.
Liu Quan's face was extremely grim.
He slammed his hand on the table, jolting Lei Jun, who was slumped over it, to his head. Lei Jun muttered, "I can't drink anymore."
