Chapter 79 Your sister-in-law said...

Su Ya arrived at work happily. As soon as he entered the office, he heard someone call his name from behind. He turned around and saw Hu Jiangyan.

Ignoring her, he went straight to his desk and sat down. He then saw Hu Jiangyan rush in and quickly close the door.

He said to Su Ya, "Do you know? Your boyfriend is in trouble."

Su Ya blinked indifferently, showing no surprise, as if she were immune to Xing Baohua's gossip.

"Why aren't you worried at all! You know what? After I heard about this, I felt so sorry for you." Hu Jiangyan hurriedly walked up to Su Ya and said.

"What's wrong? I just got back from the provincial capital, and you told me as soon as I walked in that my boyfriend is in trouble. What could possibly happen to him?" Su Ya asked calmly, without any panic.

“What could possibly happen? Let me tell you, your boyfriend took a woman to a guesthouse for one night. They didn’t leave until noon the next day, and they shared a room? You, aren’t you worried about this? Besides, the disciplinary department has already started investigating this matter,” Hu Jiangyan said.

Su Ya frowned slightly upon hearing this, her lips pouting slightly. She knew Xing Baohua well enough not to believe everything she heard; all the rumors about Xing Baohua before were either misunderstandings or baseless.

There must be some misunderstanding behind this news. Her frown just now was actually because she was thinking about someone. Ever since she was promoted to the position of director, she had hardly seen him. Every time she saw him, he would say he was busy.

Would someone so busy really look for other women? Su Ya was the first to disbelieve it. That cowardly idiot? Haha, he's just good at talking.

"Why aren't you worried at all? I'm worried for you!" Perhaps seeing that Su Ya was unmoved, Hu Jiangyan asked anxiously.

"Why are you in such a hurry! I just trust him. You're the same, more anxious than the emperor, meddling in other people's business." Su Ya replied bluntly.

"You, you're infuriating! You idiot, you've really taken my kindness for granted. You'll regret this!" With that, Hu Jiangyan stormed out the door.

Xing Baohua brought the two old men to Liu Haibo's publishing house, where three former employees were present.

After Liu Haibo took over his original unit, he followed him there.

One of the chief technicians, Lin Daorong, was nearly fifty years old and was the oldest and most skilled of the three.

Currently, he is in charge of the entire publishing house's technology. When Xing Baohua arrived with the two elderly men, they were recording cassette tapes.

Xing Baohua went over and looked at the title of the tape. Good heavens, this was a blatant copy of a Hong Kong tape.

Having this equipment is great; it can flip through ten tapes at once, and then just throw the finished tapes into a cardboard box. The tapes are bare on the outside; I guess someone will have to put song titles and packaging on them later.

Xing Baohua had come here twice before with Liu Haibo and knew Lin Daorong.

After greeting them, we let the two gentlemen take a look around the area.

After taking a few glances, Grandpa Li Houtu shook his head and said, "The conditions are too poor if we record here."

Xing Baohua asked, "How do you suggest we fix it?"

"It depends on how much money you're willing to spend. Two years ago, a recording studio called Baihua Recording in Beijing spent nearly ten million yuan to build a studio, commissioned by a Dutch acoustician as his final masterpiece. It's a top-tier studio in China, and also the best studio in all of Asia," said Grandpa Li Houtu.

Xing Baohua was speechless. Good heavens! A recording studio worth tens of millions—this is the early 1980s! Who's so extravagant? No doubt about it, it must be a big shot from the national level, someone directly under their command.

However, to be fair, this publishing house was set up by Xing Baohua with the encouragement of Liu Haibo and others. Now that they need to spend money to build a studio, no one has any spare cash.

Xing Baohua gritted his teeth and said, "Here's five thousand. You can decide how to make it."

Lin Daorong, who hadn't spoken up, interjected, "Five thousand isn't enough! The equipment is already quite noisy."

"I'll take care of the noise issue. Mr. Lin, you and Grandpa Li discuss getting the environment sorted out first, and I'll handle the equipment upgrades. Noise reduction equipment and sound cards..."

At this point, Xing Baohua thought to himself: Damn, do we really need a computer here?

At this point, the most cost-effective solution Xing Baohua could think of was to get a noise reduction system, which would also require electronic simulation software to achieve the desired effect.

Just like the sound cards we use now, which cost a few dozen yuan each on Pinduoduo, but back then, the equipment needed to make them was huge.

Using a sound card requires corresponding computer software to run. Thinking about the computer motherboards Liu Haibo had provided gave Xing Baohua a headache. He'd spent tens of thousands of yuan on these junks; would that even cover the labor costs?

He was just broke and had no choice but to modify those old boards. Even if professional sound cards were available now, Xing Baohua probably couldn't afford them.

If you can't afford to buy it, just build it yourself. It's just writing code, right? Besides, there are two people around who understand music; they have some knowledge of acoustics and pitch. We can listen and adjust as we go, and maybe we can even come up with another project.

While looking around, Director Wang noticed a media player piled up among the miscellaneous items. He asked Lin Daorong if the thing was still usable.

Lin Daorong said, "It still works. It's just missing some parts. The previous parts broke, and the original unit hasn't bought them yet."

Director Wang turned his head toward Xing Baohua, and just stared at him without saying a word.

"Buy them, Lin, take a look and see what parts are missing. We'll make a unified purchase," Xing Baohua said.

"No money! Should we ask Boss Liu for money or ask you?" Lin Daorong said.

“Ask him for it. I’ll go to his place later and tell him that you can’t do without some working capital,” Xing Baohua said. He then looked at the pile of tapes again, sighed, and shook his head.
