Chapter 9 Schemes

Factory Director Li invited Director Hou to lunch, and Hou Liwei served them.

The relationships involved are very delicate, involving his father and his direct superior, which allows him to experience what it's like to be a gunman.

This is also a form of artistic interpersonal communication.

On the way back, Director Li, slightly drunk, asked Hou Liwei, "Young Hou! I was talking to your father this morning. You're at the age where you should be settling down. Whether you've found a partner or not is another matter. I'm one of your father's old subordinates, so I have to share his burdens."

"I'm still young, I'm not in a rush to get married. I need to make something of myself first," Hou Liwei replied shyly.

They also listened intently to what the factory director would say next.

"Housing is very scarce in the factory. Even if a few apartments were made available, you wouldn't be able to get one based on your length of service," said Director Li.

"I understand," Hou Liwei replied, his mind beginning to process the meaning behind the factory manager's words.

“Even if your father is a high-ranking official, I cannot use my connections to arrange housing for you. Otherwise, the rumors and gossip will be bad for your father.”

"Understood," Hou Liwei replied, completely bewildered. He thought to himself, "We're still far from getting a house after marriage. Why bring this up? Did my father give me some hint this morning?"

"How about building a new building at the No. 138 Factory?" the factory manager suddenly asked.

"Ah!" Hou Liwei exclaimed in surprise, his heart filled with a mix of emotions.

"Factory Director, I understand what you mean." Hou Liwei nodded and replied, suppressing his excitement. He now fully understood what the factory director had said from the beginning.

Children of leaders tend to have some level of awareness.

The factory manager has made his meaning very clear: if he wants a house, he should mention it to his father.

At the same time, Hou Liwei realized even more clearly that the factory director had a massive plan, and that he could participate in it. This project could enhance his qualifications and lead to a promotion in a short period of time.

"There's another thing. Suya's maternal grandfather was a veteran of the Provincial Department of Industry. He retired last year when he reached retirement age, but he was still contributing to the revolutionary cause and was rehired to the Provincial Department's Advisory Committee." After saying this, Director Li slowly closed his eyes and lay down in the back seat.

Everyone in the factory knew that Hou Liwei was pursuing Su Ya, but few people knew about Su Ya's background.

The factory manager reminded him that Su Ya also had powerful backers, and they were very influential.

If they could win her over, it would greatly benefit their careers.

There was a lot of information today, a lot of good news, although it was a bit mentally taxing. But I'm in a good mood.

Factory Director Li returned to his office, poured himself a cup of tea to sober up, and then picked up the internal phone to call Office Director Lao Xue.

A moment later, Director Xue came in and said, "The factory manager is looking for me."

"Well, there's something I need to discuss with you. Let's keep it to ourselves for now," said Director Li.

Director Xue nodded, walked to the sofa, sat down, and said, "Please go ahead."

Factory Director Li explained his plan to Director Xue, who then fell into deep thought.

After a while, he asked, "The No. 138 Cave Factory, as far as I know, has 17 employees, including the Party Secretary. It used to be a factory with more than 300 employees and was very popular for a time."

“I really want to eat them up, but when I think about those retired and sick-retired workers, I get a headache. The burden is too heavy. Our factory can easily arrange for 17 employees, but who will bear the cost of pensions and medicine for more than 100 retired workers? Look at our factory, the bigger the operation, the heavier the burden.”

Director Xue chimed in, "Who said it wasn't coming?"

"That's what the factory manager means," Director Xue continued.

"Through my connections in the provincial government, I got the higher authorities to allow individuals to contract out loss-making factories as pilot units," Factory Director Li said.

After the factory manager's guidance, Director Xue immediately understood the meaning behind it.

After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Should we transfer someone from our factory to serve as factory director?"

“I think so too. The No. 138 Cave Factory has been placed under local management and renamed the Fourth Radio Factory. The personnel authority is with the Municipal Bureau. The key is how to get them to relocate?” Director Li said, frowning.

"Will the contractor who takes the lead have the guts? If the subordinates can't control him, it'll be a big problem! The choice of person is crucial!" Director Xue said.

"Do you have any candidates in mind?" Director Li asked.

"Not really for now. The older ones are too timid, while the younger ones are brave enough, but they lack control and experience. If they get out of control, it will delay our plans." Director Xue stroked his chin, speaking slowly like a strategist.

"You go down there and do some preliminary investigation to see who are suitable candidates. We'll be observing them discreetly. Make sure to give them the rewards they deserve," said Director Li.

"We really need to give them plenty of 'sweeteners' (benefits). By the way, there's someone we should give a 'sweetener' to see how it goes." Director Xue immediately thought of someone and introduced him to the factory manager.

"who?"

"The kid of Director Xing from Workshop Three. I looked into his situation after you left this morning; he's 19 this year. Weren't we planning to set up a logistics service company?"

"kindness"

"Our internal quota requires that you have a skill. Director Xing enrolled his son in a night school, specifically the electrical appliance repair class, which is for this kind of spot. He also made arrangements in advance."

"I didn't expect his son to actually show off his skills today and yesterday. He fixed our factory's computers. Even the experts from the province praised his skills, and they even treated him to lunch today," Director Xue said.

"We can start setting up a logistics service company ahead of schedule, and give that kid a repair shop. The factory can cover the initial costs, and he can compile a detailed list of parts. All materials will go through the warehouse, following the workshop's procedures," Factory Director Li added.
