Chapter 269 A pot of flowers costs over ten thousand!

Xing Baohua had no intention of keeping Java in his hands.

The core language should be open-source so that more programming enthusiasts can participate.

This will also enrich the future app store.

Only when the application is widely used can it go further.

When assembling the system team, Xing Baohua named the project "The Semi-Intelligent Era".

All the plans have been drawn up on blueprints. They look beautiful, but are they really that difficult to implement?

Given the existing conditions, Xing Baohua wanted to give it a try.

I've been planning to develop a system for a long time, but the conditions weren't right, so I had to wait. Just like he said before, even if the conditions aren't there, we have to create them.

Since the conditions for creation have already been set, we have to bite the bullet and go for it.

While he couldn't afford anything high-end, Xing Baohua was confident in his ability to handle a compact system.

This guy is a bandit leader.

No one in this era understands the underlying systems of MTK chips better than him.

MediaTek initially made decoding chips for DVDs, but later, seeing the business opportunity, MediaTek began making wireless communication chipsets.

Instead of making decisive design modifications, they added more modules to the chip.

This module group includes basic system functions, power management functions, and even a baseband group.

Combining so many functions into one product, and making it very cheap, led to a proliferation of counterfeit phone manufacturers in China.

Xing Baohua knew that with the technological level of this era, he could do everything he could to design a chip architecture, but the hardware was not up to par.

The only lithography machines capable of producing images smaller than a micrometer are in the West, unless optical machinery manufacturers further improve their manufacturing processes. But that will take many years; it's not something that can be done overnight.

Another option is to contact Samsung?

Samsung's equipment was barely enough to produce the chips, but Xing Baohua reassigned it to produce memory chips.

There are only so many devices available, unless Samsung purchases more.

Xing Baohua has some concerns about having Samsung manufacture the products.

Ultimately, Xing Baohua chose to use the old equipment from the lithography factory for production. He increased manpower and replicated more than a dozen lithography machines in the shortest possible time.

Various chips for chipsets are manufactured separately.

These specially manufactured chips are not simply modified from chips found on the market.

The characteristic of a microcontroller is that the program and functions are already formed when the chip is manufactured.

The type of chip used in a particular device is the same.

Just like a decoding chip, it can only process audio or video; it's almost impossible to modify it for other functions.

Based on his understanding of MTK, Xing Baohua had no choice but to redesign the chip, a task that was incredibly difficult.

Fortunately, embedded chips have one advantage: the core is very small, which is what we commonly call a microkernel.

This allows for multitasking and priority task processing at the kernel level.

The only drawback of this type of microcontroller-embedded system is that it requires the generation of target code.

This will directly enter the running memory, that is, the RAM.

This is not a normal processor addressing of running memory.

The target board in the running memory directly corresponds to the target board in the storage memory.

After the memory chip is photolithographically etched, the target board is directly burned into the storage memory, which is the ROM we mentioned earlier.

This saves the trouble of copying data later.

The reason for using programming is to lock the chip's program, preventing direct reading, writing, and modification. Even if the program inside is corrupted, it can be replaced directly.

Unlike the chips we use now, if the program inside crashes, the data needs to be downloaded and copied again.

If a program on your computer is faulty, causing the computer system to crash easily, simply reinstalling the system will solve the problem.

The same applies to mobile phones. If you encounter problems like freezing or crashing, reflashing the phone is a simple solution.

However, modifying the chip's program often costs more than locking the chip's program.

The manufacturing processes are different, and so are the production procedures.

Therefore, Xing Baohua chose the cheapest locking process.

The biggest drawback is that it simply replaces parts when there's a problem.

Of course, there are also some advantages, which also demonstrate the superiority of Xing Baohua's after-sales service.

The probability of hardware developing quality problems within the warranty period is very low; you'll usually only encounter various issues after the warranty expires.

Replacing parts is the key; that's how you make money in after-sales service.

Xing Baohua had no other choice but to resort to this tactic.

Feature phones use open systems, which have many drawbacks.

The reason he used the term "semi-intelligent era" instead of "intelligent era" is because he knew that the resulting products would be gimmicky and incongruous.

Xing Baohua also knew that he was in a bit of a rush to do this.

But time was running out; IBM's network deployment had already begun. Ericsson's telecommunications systems were also underway. Base stations and other infrastructure were also under construction.

These things have come out, but it wouldn't make sense if there wasn't a hardware device to run them. Xing Baohua has already outlined the future handheld hardware that will support this and that.

If the equipment doesn't come out by then, wouldn't we be shooting ourselves in the foot and making people think we're big liars?

The entire system is written in Java, so it's fair to call it a domestically developed system.

No publicity, no celebrations, just low-key work.

We need to compile teaching materials, and even more importantly, we need to open-source the code.

The workload is enormous.

We need to teach these software team members first.

Xing Baohua has been eating, drinking, and using the restroom all in the lab lately, which has made him look quite disheveled.

He was unkempt, with long hair and a scraggly beard, and had no image to maintain.

While I was busy, my chief secretary came to see me.

Because Xing Baohua focused on research and development in the laboratory, he delegated all external affairs to the management. He also gave his cell phone and pager to his chief secretary, who would only contact him for urgent matters.
