☆、Thirty-six、Reencountering Qin Tian (2437 words)
Qin Tian felt extremely frustrated and a little wronged; he didn't want to be this thin either!
But when faced with Li Yaxi, he could only lower his head and let her scold him.
After the teachers from each subject performed their hypnotic exercises, making Li Yaxi drowsy in various ways, get out of class finally ended.
As soon as I stepped out of the classroom, I saw Feng Zihao waiting at the door.
Feng Zihao naturally took Li Yaxi's schoolbag and asked, "Are you tired?"
Li Yaxi stretched and wiggled around without any regard for her image, saying, "I'm exhausted! It's much more comfortable to play at home."
Feng Zihao chuckled and ruffled his hair, leading out his bicycle. "Sit tight, let's go home."
When Feng Zihao stepped on the pedal, Li Yaxi hugged Feng Zihao's waist tightly and snuggled against his back comfortably.
This feeling is wonderful; he wants to freeze this moment.
Feng Zihao was summoned back by his grandfather over the weekend, while Li Yaxi browsed the bookstore out of boredom.
After buying a few books, I was about to go home when I saw city management officers chasing away roadside vendors.
Li Yaxi usually wouldn't even bother watching such a commotion, but he happened to see someone among the vendors who looked very familiar: Qin Tian.
While Qin Tian was running away from the city management officers, he was suddenly pulled into a shop. When he looked up and saw that it was Li Yaxi, he was stunned.
He didn't come to his senses until Li Yaxi ordered him a glass of milk while he was sitting in the shop.
However, the thought that the money he earned from setting up his stall all morning should be enough to pay for his own cup of milk and Li Yaxi's drink called coffee made him feel a little pained.
What are you selling? Are you making money?
Qin Tian was still busy with his own plans and didn't notice what Li Yaxi said, "...Huh?"
Li Yaxi laughed at his silly look and asked, "Is it fun to be chased by the city management officers?"
Qin Tian honestly replied, "No...it's not fun."
"Then why did you do this?" Li Yaxi asked knowingly.
Qin Tian's face paled. "It can make money."
Li Yaxi couldn't quite explain her feelings for Qin Tian. He didn't have many friends and rarely showed interest in people.
He just wanted to tease Qin Tian from time to time, perhaps because his humble eyes held a hint of stubbornness, much like his own in his past life.
Both are forced to compromise by life, yet one stubbornly refuses to accept it.
Li Yaxi lifted the cloth, the pattern of which was unclear, and saw that it contained small jewelry and hair clips.
"This is very profitable? What if I hadn't helped you today and you had been caught by the urban management officers and all these things were confiscated?"
Qin Tian struggled for a long time but couldn't utter a single word. He just kept his head down, waiting for Li Yaxi to scold him, as always.
Li Yaxi sighed inwardly, "Who's in your family?"
Qin Tian glanced at him warily, then lowered his head and remained silent.
Li Yaxi was furious with him. He was trying to help her out of kindness, but she didn't appreciate it at all. She really only responded to force!
"Do you think I won't investigate if you don't tell me? You'd better confess obediently. Answer my questions, and I don't think you really want to know the consequences of making me unhappy."
Qin Tian trembled, his face paled even more, and after a long while, he stammered, "Grandma, and... Dad."
Li Yaxi nodded in satisfaction. "What does your father do?"
Qin Tian remained silent for a long time, and just as Li Yaxi was about to lose her temper, he finally uttered a pitiful voice, "Unemployed."
"He doesn't want to set up a stall if he doesn't have a job, but he wants you to. You'll be a senior in high school in a few months, and the college entrance exam will be coming soon. Don't you want to go to college?"
Upon hearing the word "university," Qin Tian's eyes lit up briefly but then dimmed instantly, though Li Yaxi, who had been watching him closely, noticed it.
"I'm saving up for tuition; what he does is none of my business."
When the word "he" was mentioned, Li Yaxi clearly felt hatred and understood that "he" referred to her father.
"You set up a stall every weekend?"
Qin Tian thought for a moment and then told the truth, "Yes, sometimes... I set up a stall at night."
"How much can you earn in a month like this? University tuition isn't cheap, it costs tens of thousands!"
Qin Tian's eyes dimmed further as he stared at the small ornament wrapped in cloth in front of him.
"Earn as much as you can... things will get better."
His words contradicted the message conveyed by his eyes, making him seem even more helpless.
Li Yaxi suddenly wanted to reach out and touch Qin Tian's head, but she held back. "Have you ever thought about doing something else?"
"Others?" Qin Tian asked, somewhat puzzled. "Do you mean you'd quit your studies and go to work?"
Qin Tian kept stirring the tablecloth on the coffee table. "I've thought about it, but... Grandma wants me to study, so I want to try... to study until I can't study anymore, then I'll go work."
Li Yaxi stirred the small spoon in her coffee cup when her phone suddenly rang.
When Li Yaxi saw that it was Feng Zihao, her eyes instantly softened and a hint of a smile appeared on them.
"Hello"
"Ya Xi, have you eaten?"
"Not yet, I'll go in a bit, what about you?"
"No, I'll go downstairs to eat right away. Ya Xi, I might not be back tonight. Grandpa is taking me out," Feng Zihao said, his voice slightly pleading.
Li Yaxi felt a little depressed at the thought of being alone in her room. "Oh, when are you coming back tomorrow?"
Feng Zihao thought for a moment and said, "It might be a little late, but I'll try my best to come back and have dinner with you, okay?"
"Alright then," Li Yaxi said, somewhat disappointed.
Hearing Li Yaxi's listless voice, Feng Zihao felt extremely distressed.
"Ya Xi, be a good girl at home. Don't open the door to strangers. Make sure the doors and windows are closed when you go to sleep. Or you can just sleep in your bedroom and close the door there too. And also..."
"Alright!"
Li Yaxi interrupted Feng Zihao's rambling, "I'm not a three-year-old anymore, okay? I'll take care of myself. Just come back soon. I'm hanging up now."
Feng Zihao was reluctant to part, even just hearing her voice would have been nice, but remembering that Li Yaxi hadn't eaten yet, he reluctantly hung up. "Then... go eat quickly."
Okay, I'm hanging up now, bye!
Feng Zihao sighed as he held his phone, which was beeping incessantly. They had only been apart for a few hours that morning, and he was already starting to miss it.
Qin Tian had seen telephones and mobile phones before, but this was the first time he had ever seen a cell phone this small and beautiful.
I couldn't help but take a second look.
Li Yaxi placed the phone in front of Qin Tian. "You like it? You can play with it."
Qin Tian quickly shook his head. He knew without even guessing that this little thing must be very expensive, and he wouldn't be able to afford to pay for it if he broke it.
Li Yaxi found it somewhat amusing to see his hesitant expression and then to look at the phone that felt like a brick to her.
"Do something else. Playing cat and mouse with the city management officers like this isn't sustainable. What else can you do?"
Qin Tian didn't know what Li Yaxi was planning, but he still answered her question, "I can do anything, I'm not afraid of getting tired."
Li Yaxi was a little troubled. "What about technology? Foreign languages, or computers?"
Qin Tian then understood what Li Yaxi had asked and felt a little embarrassed about his previous answer.
"Uh... I know a little English and a little computer skills; I was taught those in school."
