☆、VII. The Closer Distance (2138 words)
They had an emergency assembly early in the morning, ran several laps around the drill ground, and then did military posture training. After this series of events, Li Yaxi really felt like he wanted to die. Finally, he couldn't hold on any longer, and as soon as he relaxed, everything went black. Li Yaxi embarrassingly fainted.
Although he was so busy all morning that he didn't have a single word to say to Li Yaxi, Feng Zihao's eyes never left her for a moment. Seeing Li Yaxi's body clearly weakening, Feng Zihao's heart leaped into his throat. When he saw Li Yaxi collapse, Feng Zihao felt his heart stop for a few seconds. His body reacted faster than his mind, and by the time he came to his senses, Li Yaxi was already pale, lying in his arms like a lifeless, delicate doll.
Feng Zihao glared fiercely at the instructor who was about to snatch Li Yaxi from his arms, then carried her to the infirmary. Feeling the unusual warmth in his palm and holding the ridiculously light person, Feng Zihao felt that he had felt heartache more times in the past twenty-four hours than in his entire life!
When Li Yaxi woke up, she found herself in a hospital. Turning her head, she saw Feng Zihao, who looked somewhat haggard and had bloodshot eyes.
"You're awake? Is anything bothering you? I'll go get the doctor."
Li Yaxi quickly pulled him aside, "I'm fine, no need to call a doctor. How long have I been sleeping? What are you doing here? Is training over?"
"He was unconscious for a whole day and night," Feng Zihao couldn't help but correct him.
Li Yaxi was somewhat surprised, not expecting to sleep for so long, but she did feel much better. Feng Zihao, though still pale and shaken, looked much more relaxed upon seeing her awake, and his anxiety finally subsided.
"Acute gastroenteritis caused a high fever." She looked at Li Yaxi with a mixture of reluctance and reproach. "Are you just going to push yourself to the limit unless you're at your physical limit?"
Li Yaxi had never been sick since her rebirth, so how could she know it was so serious? She gave Feng Zihao a pleading look. Feng Zihao couldn't resist, so he turned away, picked up the bowl, tested the temperature, and, finding it suitable, brought it to the bedside, preparing to feed her. Seeing Li Yaxi's obvious resistance, he sighed helplessly.
"For now, you can only eat plain porridge. I'll buy you something else to eat when you feel better."
Seeing Feng Zihao's attitude of saying "You have to finish eating today," Li Yaxi deflated. He really wanted to say that he didn't want anything else, he just wanted the food in the space, but unfortunately Feng Zihao was clearly not on the same wavelength as him and couldn't hear his thoughts.
Li Yaxi propped herself up to get out of bed, but as soon as one foot touched the ground, a wave of dizziness startled her, and she grabbed wildly. When she came to her senses, she realized that she was tightly gripping Feng Zihao's arm. Hmm, it's a bit hard. He must have practiced. It will be a bit difficult for him to counterattack later!
"Don't move. Just tell me what you need and I'll get it for you."
Li Yaxi lowered her head slightly, her voice a little hoarse, "I need to use the restroom."
Feng Zihao, understanding the situation, helped Li Yaxi slowly walk to the restroom. Seeing him go in, she wanted to follow, but then thought it would be too abrupt, so she stood guard at the door, saying, "Be careful, I'll be outside. Call me if you need anything."
Li Yaxi nodded, her steps still a little unsteady. As soon as she entered the bathroom, she immediately flashed into her spatial dimension, drank some spiritual spring water and felt completely refreshed. She washed her face, ate a few strawberries, and then came out.
Feng Zihao, who was outside the door, hadn't heard any sound for a while and was afraid that Li Yaxi inside had fainted. Just as he was about to push the door open, Li Yaxi opened it. Before Feng Zihao could retract his hand from the doorknob, he fell into the doorway. Instinctively, afraid of crushing Li Yaxi, he quickly and nimbly pulled her onto himself before landing.
The person outside the door was lying on the ground, while the person inside was lying on top of the person outside—a bizarre scene. Feng Zihao held the person in his arms, feeling their warmth, and could almost smell a faint fragrance. Embarrassingly, Feng Zihao felt a tickle in his nose, as if a warm liquid was about to flow out. Feng Zihao's expression changed, and he quickly picked up Li Yaxi, put her back on the bed, and ran into the bathroom, his movements swift and decisive.
Li Yaxi stared blankly at Feng Zihao's actions until he went into the bathroom and didn't come out for a long time before she realized that the child must have been holding it in so urgently.
When Feng Zihao came out, he saw Li Yaxi staring at the bowl of porridge as if she had a grudge, and couldn't help but find it amusing. He picked up the bowl and brought it to Li Yaxi's lips without allowing her to refuse. The two struggled for a few seconds, but knowing Feng Zihao as she did, Li Yaxi knew that no matter how much he delayed, he had to eat this bowl of porridge. So she had no choice but to open her mouth and slowly swallow it, spoonful by spoonful.
After a few bites, Li Yaxi felt nauseous and pushed the bowl away, shaking her head. "I can't eat anymore, I feel like throwing up."
Seeing Li Yaxi's distress, Feng Zihao felt bad too. He figured if it got too bad, she could get her some nutrition, so he didn't pressure her. He placed the trash can by Li Yaxi's window and said, "Don't hold it in."
Li Yaxi murmured a soft "hmm" with his eyes closed, leaning weakly against the bed. Feng Zihao watched him for a while, then removed his hand from Li Yaxi's stomach and gently massaged it. Li Yaxi opened his eyes a crack to look at Feng Zihao, then let him do as he pleased. The massage seemed to make him feel a little better, and he relaxed completely, slowly falling asleep.
Li Yaxi stayed in the hospital for three days, and Feng Zihao took care of her for those three days. At first, she felt nauseous after eating, but she gradually ate smaller portions at each meal, though she could eat most things now. However, she only ate bland foods; Feng Zihao didn't dare to give her anything with a strong or stimulating flavor.
Li Yaxi, holding her bag, looked at Feng Zihao, who was about to take her home, and hesitated. "Zihao, thank you for taking care of me these past few days. I can get home by myself. You should go home early too."
It was obvious that Feng Zihao was unwilling to give up this opportunity to familiarize himself with the place. Without saying a word, he hailed a taxi, shoved Li Yaxi into the car, and gestured for her to give him the address. Li Yaxi sighed inwardly, gave him the address, and leaned back in her seat to close her eyes and rest.
Li Yaxi rented a small single room in a courtyard house. It was simple, with a bed, a set of chairs, a computer, and a wardrobe. Everything inside was visible as soon as you entered.
Feng Zihao asked with some doubt, "Did you come to City B alone?"
Li Yaxi didn't want to dwell on this issue with Feng Zihao, so she casually nodded and said, "I'm home. You can rest assured now. Go home early."
Although Feng Zihao really wanted to stay, there seemed to be no reason for him to stay any longer. He could only say a few words to him to take care of himself and then leave. At least he had learned the way around the place, so he could consider it a small gain.
