Chapter 12 Onboarding
At 7:30 the next day, Ye Qian arrived at the factory, walked to the guard post, took out her employment certificate, and the guard let her in.
It was the same room as last time, and there was someone inside specifically to arrange the new employees.
The original owner only had a junior high school education and was not qualified to work in an office, but because of her excellent test scores, she was allowed to work in the trade union as an exception and became a small clerk.
The working hours here are from 8am to 11am and from 1am to 4pm, with Sundays off, but the front-line workers have a rotation system of rest days.
The salary during the probation period is 17.64 yuan, and after becoming a regular employee it is 25.38 yuan. I don’t know how it is calculated, but it is a mixture of decimals and whole numbers.
When Ye Qian checked in at the grain factory, she was also assigned a dormitory. The grain factory had a variety of dormitories, including single rooms, double rooms, and six-person rooms. She was assigned a double room. The grain factory was also considerate enough to give the new employees half a day off, allowing them to clean up their rooms and have lunch before returning to work.
The staff member who handled the new hires was Du Xiaoli, a 19-year-old high school graduate who had been employed for just six months as a statistician in the accounting office. Du Xiaoli explained that her current job was originally for the union, but because the union was short-staffed, she was loaned out from the accounting office.
Du Xiaoli sent a group of people to the dormitory door one by one, told everyone where they would live, and then pointed at Ye Qian and said, "I live opposite you. If you need anything, you can come to me." Then she left.
They new employees have half a day off, but Du Xiaoli is still at work, so it is not appropriate for her to stay in the dormitory.
After watching Du Xiaoli leave, Ye Qian turned and walked into the dormitory. While there was no one in the dormitory, she quickly threw the original owner's old quilt into the space, took out the quilt she had prepared later, and spread it on one of the empty beds.
The sheets and mattress were old, worn-out mattresses from her past, so they wouldn't attract attention. The toiletries she'd bought at the supply and marketing cooperative were also placed on an empty table nearby. Before she could clear them away, Ye Qian was called to dinner by a new colleague.
The colleague who invited her to dinner was Pan Huiyu. Both of them were assigned to the trade union as small clerks.
She had eaten at the grain factory cafeteria before. Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu lined up to order. Ye Qian ordered a basic set meal, which cost ten cents and included a boiled Chinese cabbage, a pickle, and a steamed bun as the main dish. The last time they ate there, Ye Qian observed what everyone else was eating. Most people ordered the basic set meal, and Pan Huiyu ordered the same thing as her.
After dinner, the two didn’t dare to run around, so they could only go back to the dormitory to rest, and then go directly to the union when they went to work in the afternoon.
…
afternoon.
When the two of them agreed to go to the union together, they heard voices inside as soon as they reached the door.
Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu knocked on the door, "Knock knock..."
Then a woman's voice was heard: "Come in."
The woman glanced at the two people at the door and asked, "Who are you?"
Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu replied, "We are new employees."
"My name is Ye Qian, and I'm new to the staff union." "My name is Pan Huiyu, and I'm also new." The woman looked at the two of them and said to them, "I heard that we were assigned two people, and that's you."
The woman continued, "My name is Wang Juan, and I'm the team leader of the union. You two can sit at these two tables. They haven't been used for a long time, so please wipe them yourselves." After saying that, she ignored the two of them.
Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu walked to their seats and saw the rag on the table. Ye Qian asked, "Can I use this rag?"
"Sure, just remember to wash it clean after use." After saying this, he lowered his head again.
Ye Qian took a rag and cleaned it, then started to wipe the table. During this time, Pan Huiyu hadn't moved. In fact, there was still a rag, but Pan Huiyu seemed to be waiting for Ye Qian to wipe it for her. Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu's seats were not next to each other, so why was she so attentive to wipe the table for her, who was also a newcomer?
Ye Qian finished wiping the table, went out to get the rag, and came back to ask Pan Huiyu, "Do you want some?" Pan Huiyu's face changed, thinking that Ye Qian would help her wipe it, but she couldn't lose her temper at this point, so she said with a smile, "Thank you, OK."
After giving the rag to Pan Huiyu, Ye Qian sat down in her seat. She took off the small bag she was carrying and took out the water cup from it. When she took the rag, she saw that the union had a thermos, which was very convenient for drinking water.
Ye Qian walked towards the kettle, picked it up and found it was empty. Without saying anything, she turned around and went out to get some water. She knew where to get water the last time she was here, so she didn't ask.
There were many people getting water, so Ye Qian waited for a while before returning to the union. When she came back, Wang Juan looked at her without saying anything. After Ye Qian poured a cup of hot water into her own cup, she put the thermos back in its place.
The working hours in the afternoon were very short and it was time to get off work soon. Ye Qian was not in a hurry about Wang Juan not assigning her any work, but Pan Huiyu did complain a few words.
This is normal. As a newcomer, others will definitely observe you. Even in the future, on your first day at work, you will only be asked to read the induction instructions and learn about the company, but you will not be assigned any real work.
Wang Juan packed up her things and said to Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu, "Xiao Ye, Xiao Pan, it's time to get off work. You guys go first. I'm leaving too."
"Okay," Ye Qian stood up, cleaned up her desk (there was nothing on it), tucked her stool under the table, and turned around to ask Pan Huiyu, "Are we leaving?"
Seeing that she had packed neatly, Pan Huiyu quickly stood up and said, "Okay, let's go." Before Ye Qian left, she turned back to Wang Juan and said, "Sister Wang, see you tomorrow." Then she walked out of the union with a smile. Pan Huiyu, who had just left the union, saw her and her expression was a little complicated. Ye Qian also noticed it, but she didn't care. She immediately asked, "Are you going to eat?"
"Eat." Pan Huiyu replied immediately.
The two of them walked towards the cafeteria. It was the time when most people were eating after get off work, but there was nothing they could do. If they were late, they would worry about not having enough to eat. The food nowadays was not oily, and you would feel hungry after a while. If you skipped this meal, how could you bear it? After all, if you were not active in eating, there was something wrong with your mindset.
After dinner, Ye Qian and Pan Huiyu returned to their dormitory. Ye Qian did not see her roommate until she fell asleep.
The next morning, Ye Qian arrived at the union half an hour early. Pan Huiyu felt that she was a little early and was a little unhappy, but she still came with her. After arriving at the union, Ye Qian started to clean the floor. During this time, Pan Huiyu sat in her seat and watched Ye Qian sweep and mop the floor without saying a word.
Ye Qian had just finished mopping the floor when Wang Juan came in. Ye Qian said, "Good morning, Sister Wang."
"Well, good morning." Sister Wang glanced at Ye Qian, who was cleaning, and smiled. Pan Huiyu, hearing the noise, immediately stood up and pretended to wipe the table with a rag. She was trying to cover up her mistake. With such a big move, no one would be blind. Ye Qian smiled at Pan Huiyu, but Pan Huiyu still looked unhappy.
The union office wasn't big, so it only took 20 minutes to clean it. After washing the used cleaning items and putting them back in their original places, they returned to their seats.
Yesterday, she noticed two empty desks in the office, but with some items on them, suggesting they were occupied. Sure enough, around 8 a.m., the two people arrived. One was Jiang Xia, 35, and the other was Chen Xiaoling, 28.
