Chapter 25: Entanglement

The small boat was swaying on the river. There was no moon tonight, only a few scattered stars. The lights on the river bank were reflected on the surface of the river. I could vaguely see my own shadow on the water.

The guards rowed the boat towards the beautifully decorated boat in the center of the river.

He Yan lowered his head and said nothing. The guard couldn't help but look back at He Yan, and saw the girl sitting at the stern of the boat, sitting upright, with her hands tied behind her back by ropes, also motionless. As if she noticed his gaze, she raised her head and glanced at him. The guard shuddered, and the oar in his hand almost fell into the river.

That look was really cold. He couldn't describe the feeling, it was like a dead person staring at him woodenly, the rippling sound of the river was like a dream, making her look even more spooky.

It was really strange. The guards were worried. She didn't talk much, didn't ask anything, and was surprisingly quiet. A normal woman would have asked a question or two at this time, right? But He Yan didn't. She was like a quiet doll, so quiet that she didn't seem like a living person.

The water, shimmering in the night, like a whirlpool, brought her thoughts back to the day when she was held down by the man named He Wanru and drowned in the pond.

She used to be able to swim and was quite good at it, but today, at this moment, her tense nerves told her that she was afraid of water.

She was afraid of falling off the boat, being sucked into the endless vortex, and never being able to get out of the water again. She watched the light of day getting farther and farther away from her but was powerless to do anything. She was afraid that this life would come to an abrupt end just like her last one.

She felt disgusted with her own cowardice and fear at the moment, but could not think of any other solution. She could only sit in the boat and silently let the guard take her onto the magnificent boat.

The boat should be a rich family's own boat, smaller than a mansion, but much larger than a fisherman's boat. The guard sent He Yan aboard, opened the curtain of the boat awning, brought He Yan in, and then rowed away in the boat, as if he had received instructions and did not dare to come closer.

He Yan stared at the person in front of him.

Fan Cheng also dressed up carefully today, wearing extremely fancy and luxurious clothes. In the cabin, there were incense and colorful lanterns. The lights were dim, soft and fluffy, and the charming fragrance could be smelled as soon as one entered.

He Yan struggled out of the vortex in his mind, looked at Fan Cheng, and said, "Master Fan."

Fan Cheng came over, pushed her down on the chair and said, "Ah He, you've been wronged."

He Yan said nothing.

"I didn't expect that woman to be so vicious that she kidnapped you and locked you in the house. If I hadn't sent someone to secretly protect your safety and rescue you as soon as I learned about this, the consequences would be disastrous. Ah He, now you should understand my painstaking efforts, right?" Fan Cheng said with regret.

He Yan looked at the rope on his feet and shook his head, "I don't understand."

From beginning to end, whether Fan Cheng's guards took her out of the house, put her on the carriage, or sent her to the ship, he never untied the rope for He Yan.

The rough ropes had already rubbed her wrists raw, but she didn't feel any pain, she was just speechless.

"I was afraid that you might misunderstand me and refuse to get on board, so I didn't untie the rope for you." Fan Cheng followed her gaze and explained. Although he said this, he did not take any other action.

"We are on the boat," He Yan laughed, "I won't run away, you can untie me."

When she smiled, she was like the morning glow reflecting on the snow, indescribably bright and radiant. Fan Cheng was a little dazed, thinking, my goodness, He Yan has grown up to be more attractive now, and has a more heroic demeanor than before.

Thinking of this, his heart itched even more, and he was about to reach out to touch He Yan's face, but He Yan turned her head away, and he missed. His smile froze, and he simply squatted down, stared at He Yan and said, "It's not that I won't let you go, but Ah He, you have to understand your current situation."

"My wife is naturally jealous and will never let you go. Even if you return to the He family today, she will still find a way to find you tomorrow. My father-in-law is a Chengwulang, and your father is just a captain. If he wants to cause trouble, there will be plenty of opportunities. Let's not talk about this. The most important thing is you."

"You are a girl with no one to protect you. If she catches you, she will definitely find ways to torture you in every way. I... can't bear it."

Fan Cheng looked at her affectionately, "How can I watch you suffer?"

"Oh?" He Yan was quietly untying the rope with her hands tied behind her back. She asked calmly, "So what are you going to do?"

Seeing that she had softened her tone, Fan Cheng was overjoyed and spoke without thinking: "I want to hide you in a safe place, where you will still have maids and servants to serve you on weekdays, so that my wife can't find you. After a long time, I will divorce that woman and bring you back to the Fan family. Then, you will be the mistress of the Fan family, and no one will dare to bully you anymore."

"Legal wife?" He Yan asked.

"That's right," Fan Cheng touched his chest, "Ah He, I swear to you, you are the only one in my heart. If this marriage had not been settled long ago, I would never marry her! Don't worry, I only love you in this life, and I, Fan Cheng, will only be your wife, but you have to wait..."

He Yan chuckled upon hearing this.

Fan Cheng was stunned.

"You want me to be your mistress." She said lightly.

If Miss He was here, she would have been moved to tears by this oath. But she is not Miss He. The authorities are confused, but the bystanders are clear. A man can tell any lies to deceive a woman. Why would Fan Cheng marry her as his wife? He just wanted to deceive her first.

I wonder if He Wanru looked at her as ridiculous and pathetic as she looks at Miss He now, when she was so focused on Xu Zhiheng back then.

"Ah He, you..." Fan Cheng frowned.

"Master Fan, I have made it very clear. Since you have already married, I have let go of the past. From now on, we will go our separate ways. I have no interest in being your legal wife, and I hope you will not get involved."

Having said this, the knot on his hand loosened and opened.

Fan Cheng didn't see the rope that fell on the ground. He looked at her in surprise at first. After a moment, he suddenly sneered, "He Yan, you really don't want to be punished. I coaxed you in a nice way, but you still got angry! Clinging? There are so many women in the world, why should I cling to you like this? But the time and effort I spent on you can't be wasted!"

"Master Fan, you won't ask me to convert it into silver for you, right?" He Yan laughed.

"I have no shortage of money, so you can repay me with yourself." He showed an obscene smile, "If you serve me well, maybe I will even reward you with some silver."

Before He Yan could say anything, he suddenly heard a furious voice, "What the hell is this!"

He Yan looked over in surprise and saw the curtain lifted, and a dripping wet man strode in. It was He Yunsheng.
