Wang Hu stood on the street, hailed a taxi, opened the door and got in. He then said to the driver, "Sir, could you please take me to the nearest place to eat?" The car drove smoothly along the road, and after about five minutes, the driver stopped the car at his destination.
Wang Hu got out of the car and his eyes widened in astonishment—he had arrived at Yintai Mall. He muttered to himself, "Wow, I thought it was much farther! It's only a five-minute drive from where I live."
Wang Hu had always felt that this period of time was relatively backward, and that many modern facilities and services were probably not available.
However, the reality is quite different. At this time, not only are there navigation software such as Gaode Map and Baidu Map, but all kinds of commercial shops are also readily available.
It's a pity that Wang Hu didn't download these map apps himself. If he had downloaded any of them beforehand, he wouldn't have made such a blunder today.
After standing there for a moment and thinking, Wang Hu decided not to go home for dinner. He figured his family should have finished eating by now, so instead of going back only to find them empty-handed, he'd rather eat here first and then browse the mall to pick out a few pretty handbags as gifts for his two beloved women at home.
So Wang Hu casually walked into a roadside restaurant, hurriedly ate a couple of bites of food, filled his stomach, and then got up to leave. Following the route he remembered, he headed straight for the place where he had bought the bag last time—the renowned Louis Vuitton boutique stood quietly there, waiting for his arrival.
"Could you please get me two bags, each priced around 20,000 yuan? They should be styles suitable for young women, and preferably two different styles," Wang Hu said to the sales assistant with a smile.
“Okay, sir! No problem.” The sales assistant responded to Wang Hu very enthusiastically. She actually already knew Wang Hu, because in just a few days, he had already come to the store to buy bags twice, and this was his third visit.
However, when Wang Hu was about to make the payment, an unexpected situation arose—the system displayed that the payment had failed. This sudden turn of events left Wang Hu feeling incredibly embarrassed, his face flushing red. He then quickly and silently calculated his available funds in his mind.
"Of that 800,000 yuan bonus, 500,000 yuan was invested in a securities account. Rent and upfront funding for opening a Taobao store, along with various other miscellaneous expenses, totaled 130,000 yuan! I bought Zhang Feng a bag worth 20,000 yuan, and then bought Yu Lili a bag worth the same 20,000 yuan. Add to that the 60,000 yuan in private lawyer fees, the 20,000 yuan bonus, and the expenses for meals, driving school enrollment, and cigarettes and alcohol these past two days, which have also cost me more than 20,000 yuan..."
Wang Hu stood there, muttering to himself, a look of deep regret on his face: "Oh dear, how could this happen? No wonder I don't have enough money. These two bags alone cost more than 50,000 yuan! But I'm really strapped for cash right now, I only have a little over 20,000 yuan left!"
Time seemed to freeze, and all around was silent, with only Wang Hu's inner frustration echoing incessantly. After a long while, he finally seemed to have made up his mind, and somewhat embarrassedly raised his head slowly, his eyes flickering with a hint of guilt and apology as he looked at the pretty saleswoman.
Wang Hu cleared his throat and said in a slightly trembling voice, "I'm so sorry, beautiful lady. I was in such a rush this morning, and it's all my fault for being so careless; I forgot to bring extra money. So... I probably won't be able to buy these two bags for the time being. I'm really sorry for causing you so much trouble!"
After saying these words, Wang Hu's face instantly turned bright red, like a ripe apple, and he wished he could disappear into the ground. Then, as if he had done something wrong, he quickly turned around and hurriedly left the shop.
However, to Wang Hu's surprise, the sales assistant didn't look down on him or laugh at him. Instead, she smiled and replied, "It's alright, Mr. Wang. Everyone encounters unexpected situations sometimes. Who can guarantee they're always fully prepared? We welcome you to visit our store again!"
Hearing these friendly words, Wang Hu felt a little relieved, but at the same time felt even more ashamed.
Wang Hu lowered his head, his face flushed, and quickly walked out of the store. He reached the roadside, hailed a taxi, got in, and urged the driver to hurry home.
Sitting in the car, Wang Hu was still unable to calm down. The embarrassing scene from earlier kept replaying in his mind, and the more he thought about it, the more ashamed he felt. It was so humiliating!
Wang Hu slowly pushed open the door to his home. As soon as he entered, he saw three familiar faces sitting around the dining table, enjoying their dinner. He was slightly taken aback, a look of surprise appearing on his face.
"I thought you guys had already finished eating! If I had known you weren't done yet, I wouldn't have been in such a rush. It's so embarrassing!" Wang Hu said with a hint of complaint as he pulled up a chair and sat down.
Upon hearing this, the three women all looked up at Wang Hu, their eyes flashing with curiosity. Chen Linlin, in particular, seemed especially excited.
Seeing this, Wang Hu shook his head helplessly and then recounted everything that had just happened. As the story unfolded, the three women's laughter grew louder and louder, as if it would burst through the roof. Chen Linlin laughed the most exaggeratedly, bending over backward and almost dropping the bowl and chopsticks in her hands.
