Chapter 109

The car is still moving.

Ji Yanjun slowly turned his head to look at Gangzi.

Gangzi shouted, "Brake! Step on the brakes!"

With a screeching sound of brakes, the truck came to a stop, and Ji Yanjun and Gangzi both leaned forward.

People and vehicles were safely parked on the side of the road.

Gangzi was so frightened that he braced himself on the center console and gasped for breath.

Ji Yanjun was in a daze, his mind still racing with various fragmented and disordered images.

"Qingqing..." Ji Yanjun murmured involuntarily.

Gangzi had barely recovered when he immediately cursed, "Yanjun, you're definitely going to die at Wen Qing's hands for the rest of your life!"

“Gangzi, I just remembered something, like it happened in a past life,” Ji Yanjun said.

"Nonsense!" Gangzi, always careless and easygoing, didn't take it to heart at all. He pushed open the passenger door, jumped out of the car, walked around the front, opened the driver's side door, and pushed Ji Yanjun, saying, "Go on, I'll drive. Damn it, I haven't even gotten married yet, and I don't want to die!"

Ji Yanjun was forced to sit in the passenger seat.

Gangzi got into the driver's seat, started the car, and began to patiently explain, "Yanjun, Wenqing is sick, but if you're sick, you should get treatment, right? Why are you in such a hurry? Besides, instead of thinking about her and dreaming about her every day, why don't you just pursue her relentlessly and marry her? So what if she doesn't get along with your mother? After you get married, you can separate the household, move to Xiacheng, have a child, and your mother won't argue with Wenqing too much for the sake of her eldest grandson, right?"

Gangzi kept rambling on and on.

Ji Yanjun snapped back to reality. The images that had been flashing through his mind had vanished. He felt like he had forgotten something, something very important, but he just couldn't remember it. And at that moment, he had a terrible headache.

"Yanjun, what's wrong?" Gangzi turned his head and quickly asked.

"My head hurts a little," Ji Yanjun said.

"Why?" Gangzi asked.

Ji Yanjun rubbed his forehead: "I can't remember many things, many very important things."

"What is it?"

"I don't know, it seems to be something from a dream."

Gangzi spat and said, "You're just bored out of your mind!"

Ji Yanjun did not respond.

After a while, Gangzi, steering the wheel, asked, "Yanjun, where are we going to find Wen Qing?"

"Nanzhou First People's Hospital." Gangzi had seen Wen Qing go to Nanzhou First People's Hospital before.

"What if there isn't one?"

"Then let's go to each hospital one by one."

“Okay!” Gangzi agreed, “I’ll risk my life to accompany you. When I get married, you have to be my best man and help me pick up the bride.”

"Okay," Ji Yanjun agreed.

The two quickly arrived at the First People's Hospital of Nanzhou City. After making inquiries, they learned that Wen Qing had indeed been admitted to the hospital that morning in a single room on the third floor.

The two quickly ran to the third floor.

Before I could even look for the ward number, I saw Yao Shiling carrying a water bottle and walking towards the ward.

At the same time, Yao Shiling also saw Ji Yanjun.

"Auntie," Ji Yanjun called out softly.

"Auntie," Gangzi called out.

Yao Shiling hummed in agreement and walked towards the ward.

Ji Yanjun followed Yao Shiling to the door, where Yao Shiling stopped and looked at Ji Yanjun.

Ji Yanjun retreated repeatedly.

Yao Shiling entered the ward without a word, locked it from the inside, and covered the small window with paper, so that Ji Yanjun and Gangzi could not see anything from outside the door.

"Wen Qing," Yao Shiling called softly.

Wen Qing opened her tired eyes.

Yao Shiling stepped forward, bent down and placed her hand on Wen Qing's forehead; the fever had not yet subsided.

Wen Qing had a fever since she woke up in the morning. It was a low-grade fever that wouldn't go down. The surgery was originally scheduled for today, but with Wen Qing's fever, the surgery had to be postponed again.

"Mom," Wen Qing called out softly.

"Tired?" Yao Shiling asked, Wen Qing had just taken her medicine.

"Um."

"Then you should go to sleep. Your fever will go down when you wake up. Once the fever goes down, you can have the surgery, and you'll be fine after the surgery," Yao Shiling said softly.

Wen Qing smiled faintly: "Mm."

"Go to sleep." Yao Shiling tucked the blanket around Wen Qing, then sat on the edge of the bed and looked at Wen Qing.

A moment later, she turned her head to look at the doorway, and the shadow reflected there made her realize that Ji Yanjun had not left yet.

She ignored Ji Yanjun.

Ji Yanjun stood at the door waiting.

Gangzi sat on a bench in the corridor and asked, "Why won't Wenqing's mom let us go see Wenqing?"

Ji Yanjun remained silent.

"Why do you think Wenqing's mom is so annoyed with you?" Gangzi asked.

Ji Yanjun glanced at him, and Gangzi immediately fell silent.

Ji Yanjun continued to stand at the door and wait. When the old doctor came to examine him in the afternoon, he hurriedly stepped forward and asked, "Doctor, what disease does Wen Qing have?"

The old doctor glanced at him and said, "Ask the patient's family." Then the old doctor went into the ward, leaving Ji Yanjun outside again.

After a long while, the old doctor and Yao Shiling came out together.

"Auntie," Ji Yanjun called out as he stepped forward.

Yao Shiling said, "Don't go in, she's sleeping."

"I just want to see her."

"You are not allowed to go in."

Ji Yanjun obediently listened to him.

Yao Shiling followed the old doctor into the doctor's office.

Yao Shiling hurriedly asked, "Doctor, how is Wen Qing's illness?"

The old doctor shook his head: "Her fever won't go down, so surgery can't be performed. Besides, her last checkup showed she was already in the late stage of the middle stage, not the early stage."

“But you clearly said it wasn’t even the middle stage!” Yao Shiling argued.

"Miss, don't worry. Regardless of the results of the last examination, the patient's body is suitable for surgery at that time. Now we can only wait for her fever to subside," the old doctor said slowly.

"If the fever goes down, will the surgery cure it?" Yao Shiling asked.

The old doctor continued to shake his head: "It's hard to say. Her condition deteriorated too quickly. Even if the surgery is successful, whether it will recur is still a question. My lady, you should prepare yourself mentally."

Yao Shiling covered her face and cried, "Doctor, my daughter is only eighteen years old! You must save her!"

"Don't worry, don't worry, we will do our best. Let's wait for her fever to break. Don't be sad, the patient's emotions are also very important."

Yao Shiling stayed in the office for a while before coming out, and when she did, she saw that Ji Yanjun was still there.

“Auntie.” Ji Yanjun and Gangzi looked at Yao Shiling.

Yao Shiling walked to the door, stopped, and said, "Ji Yanjun, Wen Qing is sick, and it's very serious."

Ji Yanjun and Gangzi were taken aback.

Yao Shiling continued, "Don't even think about having any future with Wen Qing. You're doing great, so find someone who's a good match for you and will satisfy your family. Wen Qing is just not destined for happiness. You should leave now."

After speaking, Yao Shiling was about to enter the ward.

Ji Yanjun called out to them, asking, "What illness does Wen Qing have?"

Yao Shiling paused for a long time before finally saying, "Stomach cancer."

Gangzi was stunned.

Ji Yanjun swayed backward, and Gangzi quickly caught him.

Yao Shiling then entered the ward.

"Stomach cancer?" Ji Yanjun repeated softly.

Stomach cancer?

Wen Qing has stomach cancer?

Gangzi couldn't believe that Wen Qing would get stomach cancer. But thinking back, Wen Qing used to be so lively and energetic, and yesterday, although she was wearing bright makeup, she looked so thin...

"Yanjun," Gangzi called out helplessly.

Ji Yanjun suddenly turned to the doctor's office to inquire about Wen Qing's condition, and then ran out of the First People's Hospital of Nanzhou City, with Gangzi following behind.

Ji Yanjun went to the car, took out his phone book, found a public phone, and started making calls one by one.

"Yes, it's stomach cancer? It's in the middle to late stages."

Are there any successful treatment cases?

"Yes, she still has a fever, a low-grade fever."

"Where exactly are you located?"

"Could you give me his contact information? Thank you."

"..."

Ji Yanjun made countless phone calls, but the result was always the same: there was no cure. Any glimmer of hope seemed too distant, and by the time the person passed away, it would probably be too late.

The phone book has been flipped through.

"Yanjun, Yanjun..." Gangzi called from the side.

Ji Yanjun walked out of the public phone shop, stood by the roadside, then slowly bent down, held his head in his hands, and made a painful sound.

Gangzi stood aside, unsure of what to do.

Ji Yanjun squatted by the roadside for a long time. It was already dark when he finally spoke, "Gangzi, you should go back to the county town."

"And what about you?"

"I'll go check on Wen Qing in a bit."

Did her mother let you see it?

"They will let me see it."

Gangzi was silent for a while before saying, "Yanjun, think positively, maybe it can be cured."

"Mm," Ji Yanjun replied.

Gangzi said some comforting words before leaving Nanzhou City.

Ji Yanjun stood by the roadside for a while before heading to the First People's Hospital of Nanzhou. He went up to the third floor, stood at the door of the ward, and waited until Yao Shiling came out.

“Auntie, I want to see Wen Qing,” Ji Yanjun said.

Yao Shiling said, "You won't give up until you see me, will you?"

Ji Yanjun remained silent.

“Go and go see her, but don’t wake her up,” Yao Shiling said.

Ji Yanjun nodded hurriedly, then suddenly became nervous, his palms sweating slightly. When he pushed open the door with bated breath and saw Wen Qing, his eyes immediately stung.

Wen Qing lay on the hospital bed. Her once chubby face was now thin and pale, probably from the pain, as her brows were constantly furrowed.

"Qingqing..." Ji Yanjun called out in his heart. He carefully walked to the bedside, slowly squatted down, wiped his eyes, and then slowly reached out to touch Qingqing's face, gently stroking it.

"Qingqing." His voice was low and hoarse: "Qingqing..."

Wen Qing was a light sleeper. After hearing two sounds, she slowly opened her eyes and looked at Ji Yanjun.

"Qingqing..."
