Chapter 20

Chapter 20 Going to Work

Shuxin said goodbye to her boyfriend and family early in the morning and rushed to the city. Today was the day she started working.

In life, you never know what will happen next. She had never expected that half a month after her last visit to the city, when she returned to work in the city again, she had found a partner for herself in the countryside and started a relationship.

Thinking of her little sweet husband, Shuxin felt very happy. He was delicate and soft, easy to push down, and he spoke in a sweet voice and was clingy. I didn’t feel it when I was single before, but now when I go out with my lovely husband by my side, my legs feel stronger.

Everyone in the Liu family: So you didn’t have the energy to go out before? Then why are you running so fast?

When they arrived at the station, Huang Yao had also arrived. The two met up successfully and walked in together.

Inside the station, everything is bright and new, and the cement floor is mopped to reflect light.

Shuxin and Huang Yao found their respective departments and followed the person in charge. The station was newly opened and everything was starting from scratch. Their workers also needed to familiarize themselves with the work first. The station would be put into use the day after tomorrow, and they were short on time and had a heavy task, so they hurried to do the final inspection work.

Staff dormitories are also being built in the station. Now that there are fewer people and the welfare is good, everyone can be allocated a small single room. I followed the staff to collect my work uniforms and dormitory keys.

After lunch, I started to prepare for the train's first stop, but this had little to do with Shuxin. She only had to clean up the dormitory today, have training tomorrow, and be able to get on the train the day after tomorrow.

Huang Yao is different now. She stays at the station for a long time and is very busy. Shuxin went over to ask her for the dormitory key, intending to pack up with her. Seeing the door numbers, they were both next to each other. It must be Uncle Huang who greeted her, otherwise how could it be such a coincidence.

When Shuxin opened the dormitory, she found nothing there, so she had to buy it herself.

I first went to the scrap yard and looked around, picked out two beds that were okay, and a few usable cabinets. Then I bought some old newspapers to paste on the windows and walls, borrowed a cart from the workers, and pushed the things back to the dormitory and put them away.

I returned the car to the scrap yard and went to the supply and marketing cooperative to do some shopping. I bought two washbasins, two kettles, and a bunch of miscellaneous items.

It was already evening when Shuxin finished tidying the two rooms. When Huang Yao came home from get off work, she saw Shuxin had tidied the rooms very neatly. The bed was neatly made, there was a cabinet beside the bed, a desk was placed in the room, and the windows were covered with newspapers. He happily threw himself on Shuxin and hung on her.

"Thank you Shuxin, you've worked so hard. I'll make up for all the money I spent. Now let's go. I'll treat you to a meal at the state-owned restaurant!"

"You said it, it's worth the hard work, let's go, let's eat braised pork."

It has been two days since Shuxin officially boarded the train. She is also familiar with her work, which is generally quite simple. Do a good job in the safety and sanitation of the carriage she is responsible for, check for people without tickets and so on.

Shuxin grabbed the sleeper car with her smart and studious mind and service-oriented attitude. Now, there is no three-shift system on the bus like in the future. Everyone can rest after working six hours a day.

There are few people in their sleeper berth, so there are only two conductors in charge. They usually work together during the day, and take turns to work the night shift at night.

Because of the long working hours and the hardship of staying up late, their wages are also considerable. The internship salary is 20 yuan, while the regular workers have 42 yuan, and they also receive tickets and night shift subsidies.

Because they were the first batch of workers at Xinyang Station, with a lot of work and heavy tasks to do, they skipped the internship period and became regular employees as soon as they started working.

Living with her was a three-year-old sister named Zhou Lamei. Her husband and father-in-law worked in the Grain Bureau. They were cheerful and generous people. They looked after Shuxin as a little girl and often took care of her.

Today is her second night on the bus, and it is her turn to work the night shift. Yesterday, Sister La Mei took care of her and asked her to work first to give her time to adapt. But she often went in, so being on duty was not a problem for her. Besides, she was a smart girl and had practiced the soul technique "Soul Jue". Taking a short nap was like sleeping, and she was even more energetic than after sleeping.

There are not many people who can sit in sleeper berths now, so her work is troublesome. She first checks whether there is any abnormality in each berth, then checks the new passengers, and returns to the lounge if there is no problem.

This train starts from Xinyang Station and passes through more than three dozen stations along the way. It has only traveled a little over one-third of the distance so far, and there are still three and a half days to arrive. After a day's rest at the terminal, it will take another train back to Xinyang. In total, this train will take 12 days to run.

Fortunately, the Xinyang train was secured by the county leaders after much pleading, and the others were all incoming trains, so the station was not responsible for that much.

That is to say, Shuxin will be in charge of this car and take this route from now on. It is understandable. Their Xinyang Station is a small station, not as good as those in provinces and cities. Having a car is considered good. Many small stations don't have cars at all, and even repaired stations only have stations.

There are all kinds of people on the bus, and you can meet anyone, good or bad. Look, Shuxin met one in the second half of the night.

They just passed a small station where people got on and off. Shuxin walked around the carriage to see if there were any passengers so she could check the information. At the end, an old lady saw Shuxin checking tickets and turned away without thinking. Anyone with a discerning eye could see that there was something wrong, so Shuxin would naturally not let it go.

When the man saw Shuxin coming, he ran away quickly. But who was Shuxin? How could she let someone run away? When the old lady saw that she couldn't get away, she started to throw a tantrum. She saw that Shuxin was young and thin-skinned, and thought she could get away with it by making a fuss.

"Shut up, why are you howling? Where's your ticket? Show it to me." Shu Xin was not a pushover and shouted.

The people who were woken up nearby looked and saw, oh no, they thought the little girl was too shy to deal with the old woman, but now seeing how fierce she was, they guessed she was not easy to deal with either. After all, the government was recruiting train conductors, and they wouldn't let them out if they didn't have the skills.

The old lady burst into tears, how could she get the ticket? She wanted to get a ride, and thought that with so many people, there must be some carelessness, so she managed to get through the station by some trickery, but she didn't expect to get caught here.

Shuxin knew at a glance that she didn't buy a ticket. Ticket evasion is common nowadays, and there are also many carjackers. She didn't say anything when she didn't see it, but now that she has seen it, she can't say she let it go.

"You don't have a ticket, right? You plan to take a ride, and you thought this ride was yours. If you want to take a ride, take it. Stop talking nonsense, and go buy a ticket with me, or get off at the next station, or stay in the police detention room for a few days. Make your choice."

After hesitating for a while, she still obediently went with Shuxin to buy tickets. Everyone left because they saw that there was nothing exciting to watch.

Smart people know that choosing is good for them, and the old lady is not stupid. The young girl is young, but she has a bad temper and courage. Besides, she is a public servant, so she cannot afford to offend her. That’s why she followed her to buy the ticket.

The aunt really felt distressed, as the train tickets were not cheap. One ticket was enough for her family to eat for two or three months. She could only grit her teeth and buy the cheapest standing ticket.
