Chapter Thirty-Six: The Joys of Silly Youths

She didn't want to give away the pork that she and Lin Xiao had risked their lives for, so she tugged at Lin Jianguo and said:

“Dad, you know about Lin Xiao’s family situation. If his stepmother finds out about this pork, she definitely won’t leave him any. She’ll take it all to subsidize her family. She might even make a scene and claim that the whole pig belongs to them.”

"Besides, Grandma took all the fish from last time, as well as the things Jingyu gave me. If Grandma finds out about this pork, she'll definitely take it all. Mom is pregnant, don't you want your little brother to be healthy and chubby in the future? Dad, how about we sell the wild boar meat and you cut some pork for Grandma and give it to her?"

Lin Xiao, standing beside him, looked at Lin Jianguo with a pleading expression. Lin Jianguo had no choice but to give in. He nodded, picked up the basket full of pork, handed another basket that wasn't quite full to Lin Xiao, took Er Ya's hand, and prepared to go around to the village next to them and then to the market.

Lin Xiao noticed that his basket wasn't full, knowing that Uncle Lin was being stingy with him. But seeing all the money on the ground, he threw some more pork into the basket, picked it up, and slowly followed behind.

They walked and stopped along the way, taking almost two hours. Because they were afraid of being seen by the people in their village, they took a long detour and walked a lot more. Fortunately, they finally arrived at the market.

Er Ya, holding Lin Jianguo's hand, said, "Dad, let's sell this wild boar meat to Brother Qian Lu. He'll definitely want it, and we won't have to go to the market anymore." What if we run into someone we know at the market? Wouldn't that be a waste of all the detour we took?

Lin Jianguo thought it made sense, and it would be a good opportunity to see how well his wife was teaching his child. Er Ya led the way, and the three of them headed towards the restaurant.

When she arrived, she saw that Jiang's mother and the others were eating. Er Ya then realized her stomach was growling loudly. Having been chased by wild boars for so long and walked such a long distance, Er Ya was exhausted. She mustered her last bit of strength and ran to the table, calling out:

"Mom, I'm starving. Can you give me some rice?"

Seeing that Er Ya's clothes were disheveled and there were traces of blood on her exposed arms, Jiang's mother heard her say she was hungry and quickly served her a bowl of sorghum rice. Er Ya took the rice and began to wolf it down.

Lin Jianguo and Lin Xiao, who were carrying things on their backs, arrived just in time. They put the things on the ground, and Qian Lu peeked over and exclaimed, "Good heavens, what kind of meat is this?"

Jiang's mother quickly served two more bowls of rice, letting Lin Jianguo and Lin Xiao eat and talk. When Qian Lu heard Er Ya say that it was wild boar meat, he was stunned. How could she kill such a big wild boar with her small arms and legs?

Er Ya pointed at Lin Xiao: "Luckily, I had Brother Lin Xiao protecting me, otherwise I would definitely have been eaten by wild boars today."

Lin Xiao quickly added, "No, it was Er Ya's idea that made the wild boar run into the tree."

Qian Lu watched the two people in front of him chatting and laughing back and forth, and his heart began to pound...

"I haven't asked yet who he is, or how you all encountered wild boars together?" Qian Lu decided to find out about the enemy situation first, considering that his cousin had always treated him well.

“He’s from the same village as us, also surnamed Lin, named Lin Xiao. He probably met Er Ya on the way up the mountain.”

Qian Lu was relieved. It turned out they were from the same village and even shared the same surname. He had been overthinking things.

He urged them to eat quickly, and then Qian Lu wandered over to the wild boar. So this is what a wild boar looks like! He had only eaten it, but had never seen what it looked like. It was hard to believe that he could tell what a wild boar looked like from these pieces of pork.

"Er Ya, we're opening tomorrow. Sell me this wild boar meat. I'm really worried about what to call our signboard tomorrow."

Er Ya, who had this idea in mind, deliberately teased Qian Lu, pretending to be troubled and saying, "We've already thought it through. We'll carry them to the market later, and they'll definitely sell out in no time."

Qian Lu panicked upon hearing this: "Er Ya, we're friends, and as one of the shareholders, you'll benefit from the restaurant's success. Why don't you think more about our own people?"

Er Ya made a face: "Hahaha, you fell for it, didn't you? I was just kidding you. This pork was originally brought here to be sold to you, so you have to give us a good price."

Qian Lu slapped Er Ya, nearly knocking her off the stool. Lin Xiao quickly caught her, and Qian Lu realized he had used too much force, apologizing profusely.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I treated you like an adult and forgot you're still a little kid. Don't worry, your brother would rather lose you than anyone else. I'll buy this wild boar meat for you at 1.4 yuan per jin. How about that? That's 2 mao more than the market price." Wild boar meat is priced similarly to domestic pig meat, so this price is already considered high.

Er Ya stepped forward, grasped Qian Lu's hand, and shook it: "Deal, weigh it now."

Qian Lu looked at this and wondered what it meant. He shook Er Ya a few times, so hard that Er Ya almost threw up the food she had just eaten. She quickly pulled her hand away.

Qian Lu called two kitchen helpers to take the item to be weighed and then get the money directly from the cashier.

He then pulled Er Ya aside and said earnestly, "The opening is tomorrow, and there's a lot to do. As one of the shareholders, you'd better come early!"

After thinking for a moment, she said, "No, just in case something happens, you and your aunt should stay here tonight. There's room anyway."

Tomorrow, Jiang's mother will definitely be in the kitchen. Besides, I also need Er Ya to come up with some ideas from time to time. What if I'm late tomorrow morning, or the carriage breaks down? What if their rivals give the horse laxatives and make it sick so it can't hunt?

After imagining a whole bunch of things, Jiang's mother felt that it was safest for them to stay here. She hesitated a bit, because there was still a lot of work to be done at home. If they stayed here, what would happen to the pigs? Wouldn't they rebel?

Er Ya glanced at Jiang's mother and Lin Jianguo, then said to Qian Lu, "I don't care. I'm not picky about beds anyway, so I can sleep anywhere tonight. Let my parents decide."

Actually, she was a little worried. This was her first career, and she couldn't let it slip by. She looked at Qian Lu and felt that he was still a bit unreliable.

Upon hearing Er Ya's words, Qian Lu quickly turned to Jiang's mother and Lin Jianguo, saying, "Uncle and Aunt, please, please! We've known each other for so long, don't you trust my character? Stay here tonight, Uncle will stay here too. Anyway, there's plenty of room for you to sleep."

Jiang's mother glanced at Lin Jianguo, still somewhat hesitant, mainly because she was genuinely worried about her family.
