Er Ya recognized her as Da Ya. She hadn't seen her since they separated from the family, as Da Ya had been very busy lately.
"Sister Daya, do you know what's wrong with the villagers? Can you tell me?"
"Then get me something to eat. I want candy. Give me candy and I'll tell you what they're talking about. I heard you have lots and lots of delicious food at home. Go get it for me."
Er Ya pouted. "How can you ask someone for food like that? Fine, I won't ask you anymore." She walked past Da Ya and continued up the mountain.
When Da Ya saw that Er Ya ignored her and walked away, she became anxious and grabbed Er Ya: "Hey, don't you want to know what they said about your mother? You just want to see your mother being called a vixen by them?"
I've only been away from home for two days, what exactly happened at home? Why are they calling me "Mom"?
"Or you could bring me a cornbread, and I'll tell you, you wouldn't be so stingy as to not even give me a cornbread, would you? I'm your own sister!"
It's just some food. If she wants some, just give it to her. Er Ya ran home, grabbed a cornbread from the kitchen, and ran off again.
"What's with this kid's constant panic?" Lin Jianguo muttered, then continued whittling bamboo sticks.
He handed it to Daya, panting, saying, "Now you can tell me, right?"
Daya took the cornbread and wolfed it down. It was so delicious! Unlike her own family's cornbread, which was all cornmeal, her family's cornbread had some wheat flour added. She had to eat it quickly before her brother saw her.
"Are you going to tell me or not? Stop just eating!"
Daya chewed hard a few times and finally finished the cornbread. She clapped her hands, wiped her mouth, and then spoke:
"It's all because of your mother. I heard it from my mother. She's hooked up with a rich guy in town. Haven't you seen her bringing things to your family time and time again? She picks you up every morning and doesn't bring them back until it's dark at night."
"Bullshit! Who spread this rumor? I'm going to find her!" Er Ya said angrily.
"Why are you yelling at me? It's not like I spread the word. Anyway, the whole village knows now. You saw how people looked at you just now, and Grandma knows too. Just wait for your mother to come back, and Grandma will come find you."
After saying that, she turned around and ran away. She couldn't let anyone see that she had any connection with Er Ya, lest she drag herself into trouble. Anyway, she was already full, so it was best to leave first.
Er Ya was furious, but she didn't know what to do. She didn't know who had spread the rumors, so she could only wait for her mother to come back. As for public opinion, you can only break it when it reaches its peak. Otherwise, the more you try to clarify, the more people will think you are guilty.
Putting these things aside for now, she decided to stick to the original plan and go up the mountain to see if she could find something to sell. Only when you have money in your hands will others not look down on you.
After walking for about half an hour, Er Ya finally arrived near the place where she had dug up ginseng last time. Since ginseng could grow in this place, perhaps other things could grow there as well. She carefully searched through the grass.
To my surprise, I saw some Solomon's Seal, which is a kind of Chinese medicinal herb. It is suitable for harvesting in spring, when it is at its mature stage. Er Ya slowly cut off the stems and leaves, and then dug them up with a shovel. She had to be careful not to break or damage the roots and stems, because if they were broken, they would be worthless. After digging them up, she shook off the soil and put them in a basket.
After digging for a long time, she had only filled a small half-basket after cleaning up this small area. Er Ya, who was planning to make a fortune, was not satisfied with such a small amount, so she walked a little further.
I saw a patch of grass called "Half-Money" ahead. This grass grows in large patches, and when dried, it can be steeped in water to make a drink. Although Half-Money doesn't look particularly special, it's a treasure from head to toe. The whole plant can be used as medicine, and it has the effect of clearing heat and promoting diuresis, which can improve symptoms such as difficulty urinating and urethritis.
This stuff isn't as valuable as Solomon's Seal, but it's better than nothing. She could dig it up and take it home to drink. She squatted down and started digging again. Just then, a small black dog ran up to Er Ya and rubbed against her feet.
Er Ya turned around and exclaimed, "Wow! Isn't that the little dog I saw last time?"
"Little puppy, is your injured leg healed? Did you see me and come to find me?"
The puppy thought to itself: I'm not a puppy. If I hadn't seen someone with her last time, I would have come to find Er Ya. But I couldn't say it out loud, so I just whimpered and lay down at Er Ya's feet, acting cute and cuddly.
Er Ya seemed to understand the puppy's pitiful expression. "Hahaha, you little puppy, can you understand me?"
"Alright, stop bothering me. I need to dig these out quickly and dry them while the weather is good so I can sell them for money."
The puppy seemed to understand and helped Er Ya, but its paws tore half of the money to shreds.
"Alright, alright, little puppy, you can play over there. I can do it myself. Look, you've ruined it."
The puppy whimpered pitifully. It didn't mean to; its paws were shaped like that, and there was nothing it could do about it. To avoid being disliked, it quietly went to play in the dirt nearby.
Er Ya ignored the puppy and buried herself in her work. She had to dig them all up and bring them home before noon so she could dry them in the afternoon.
Both the man and the dog were digging something with great effort.
Seeing that the basket was almost full, Er Ya immediately hoisted it onto her back. She felt that she had become much stronger. In the past, she definitely wouldn't have been able to carry so much stuff, but since arriving here, she didn't know if it was because of the food or something else, but she felt her strength gradually increasing, which surprised her greatly.
As Er Ya was about to turn back, something suddenly tugged at her pants, preventing her from moving. She struggled but couldn't budge it. Looking back in confusion, she saw it was the little dog. She had thought the dog had already run off to play. She squatted down and patted the dog's head: "Why haven't you left yet? I thought you had. Are you hungry?"
The puppy tugged at her pants, trying to pull her to the front. She struggled but couldn't move, so she could only follow the puppy and see where it was going to lead her.
"Wow, did you dig all of these up? How did you know they were medicinal herbs? How did you find them?"
The puppy waved its paws, which were covered in mud, licked the dirt off its paws, and whimpered at Er Ya.
