Chapter 100 Muskets

Everyone makes foolish mistakes in life.

Zhao Shu returned to Jiangnan Prefecture, where Su Xiu told her that Wang Jize had led 300,000 men to besiege Huo Baichuan and would definitely rescue him.

The Crown Prince told him that the army was funded and supported by the Lu family, the Qian family of Xiliang, the Zhong family of Beiding Prefecture, the Yang family, the Wei family, the Marquis of Huainan, the princes, and the local powerful clans.

He was an enemy of the entire world.

Yan Shiren said that they only had one musket squad, and Huo Baichuan was going to lure them in tonight. Once the musket squad was wiped out, these people would be no threat.

Chen Jianbo said that the island was about to be razed to the ground, and they were going to perish together with Huo Baichuan.

Zhao Shu thought, if one person can attract so many forces and families to join forces against him, and so many lives will be lost, then dying is worthwhile.

Indeed, he is destined to be remembered for eternity; I only hope that his posthumous name will sound good.

She continued to take pulses for people at the entrance of the government office as usual. Unlike Yan Ruyu, she did not spend her days in tears, nor did she ask for news every fifteen minutes, nor did she lose her appetite or sleep.

"Princess, it's getting dark." Su Xiu draped a cloak over her shoulders. "General Wei has sent a letter."

"Okay, let's go back."

For some reason, it tends to rain as soon as it gets dark. As soon as Zhao Shu stood up, the rain began to fall, as if to wash away the bright red blood everywhere. Even the heavens couldn't bear to watch anymore.

Back in the courtyard, Yan Ruyu leaned against the doorframe with red eyes. She choked out, "Did he say anything before he died? Did he have any unfulfilled wishes? Tell me, and I'll fulfill them for him. It won't trouble you."

“He said he wouldn’t die.” Zhao Shu walked past her and went into the house. There was a letter on the table with the envelope addressed to “Shu Shu”.

Yan Ruyu squatted down and cried, crying very sadly.

Zhao Shu opened the letter, which contained only one sentence: "I miss you madly if I don't see you for a day."

I miss him madly if I don't see him for a day.

I miss him madly if I don't see him for a day.

I miss him madly if I don't see him for a day.

"Princess, we've found Lord Huo's body!" a soldier rushed in to report.

A sweet, metallic taste rose in my mouth, and with a "plop," blood splattered onto the letter. I miss him madly after not seeing him for a day.

"Princess, Princess." Su Xiu's anxious voice slowly faded away. In the end, Zhao Shu couldn't even feel that she was still alive, and she couldn't hear any other sounds in the world.

All I could hear was the line, "If I don't see you for a day, I'll miss you madly."

I refuse to think; I just want to stay asleep.

For three whole days, Physician Peng traveled all the way from the capital to Jiangnan Prefecture, giving him plenty of fluids and remedies, and his heartbeat stabilized, but he still didn't wake up.

"Imperial Physician Peng, when will A-Jun wake up?" the Crown Prince asked.

The old physician, Peng, remained silent. "If she wants to wake up, she can."

He was a royal physician, not a Taoist priest, yet he spoke some mysterious and enigmatic words that left the crown prince speechless. For the past few days, he had been personally watching over Zhao Shu, just as Zhao Shu had watched over him before, staying up day and night.

There are always things to cherish while we are alive: family ties, friendships, and various other bonds. Only with these can life be considered complete.

Su Xiu had been kneeling outside the door for three days, with Xiao Guozi and the others kneeling behind her. They didn't get up for three days, and they didn't even flinch in the wind and rain.

Everyone who walked by shook their head, and no one knew what they were sighing about.

The Crown Prince and Physician Peng went to the medicine shed to prepare the medicine, leaving Zhao Shu alone in the room. She was sleeping peacefully, her face rosy, showing no signs of having been unconscious for three days.

As the door closed, she slowly opened her eyes, got out of bed, and pushed the door open with a loud creak, startling Xiao Guozi and the others who all looked up.

"Princess, you're awake?" Xiao Guozi was a little incredulous. He rubbed his eyes and, seeing that she was still in front of him, hurriedly kowtowed repeatedly. "Princess, I'm sorry. It was my fault. I shouldn't have gone to the island. If I hadn't gone to the island, you wouldn't have come to save me, and Lord Huo wouldn't have died."

"Please punish us, Your Highness." Liang Xi and the others also kowtowed and admitted their mistakes.

Su Xiu, however, remained silent.

Zhao Shu looked at her and said, "Come in."

"Yes." Su Xiu had been kneeling for too long and couldn't stand up at once. By the time she slowly pushed herself up, Zhao Shu had already entered the room.

Xiao Guozi and the others were all dumbfounded, wondering why the princess had summoned Su Xiu alone.

Su Xiu slowly moved into the room and knelt before Zhao Shu again. "Please punish me, Your Highness. It's all my fault, and it has nothing to do with anyone else!"

Zhao Shu sighed, "You can leave now. Don't ever mention that you were with me again."

"Princess, please have mercy and don't send me away. I am willing to accept any punishment. No matter how you punish me, I will have no complaints. Just please don't send me away." She kowtowed repeatedly, her forehead bleeding from the impact.

Zhao Shu recalled that when they first came to her side, each of them had a mix of confusion and excitement in their eyes. No matter how many times their master taught them, it was not as real as the experience they gained through their own trials and tribulations. Therefore, when they first arrived, they were both confused and excited.

Each of them has their own story, but Zhao Shu never asked. In fact, she did not regard Zhihai's disciples as slaves. Many times, she tried her best to give them a good future.

"Reason," she said, using only two words.

“My father is Yue Louming, and my mother is Wang. Years ago, my father took my brothers and me back to our hometown. On the way, we were attacked by assassins. Except for me, no one survived.” Even though many years had passed, she was still heartbroken when she spoke of it. “I overheard General Wang talking to his subordinates and learned that Lord Huo wanted to use me to lure the three thousand musketeers. I wanted to take revenge myself, so I ignored their advice and went to the island. Please punish me, Your Highness.”

"Did you take revenge yourself?" Zhao Shu asked. It turned out she was Yue Louming's daughter. The intelligence had said that Yue Louming had another son who had survived. "You're the only one from the Yue family who survived?"
