Sun Yun said softly to Zhao Shu, "Your cousin is quite the person, she even reads Qu Yuan's works."
As she approached, Zhao Shucai discovered that the young ladies surrounding Huo Baichuan were Zhao Wanru and others, who were quoting classical texts and praising Huo Baichuan for his integrity and scholarly demeanor.
Huo Baichuan had his back to Zhao Shu and didn't see her approaching. He said, "Qu Yuan jumped into the river in the end, so you eat zongzi to commemorate him during the Dragon Boat Festival. I'm sorry, I don't want to die young, so please move aside, I have something to do."
Sun Yun chuckled upon hearing Huo Baichuan's words, which disturbed Zhao Wanru and the others who were racking their brains to get Huo Baichuan's attention.
"Princess, your cousin is here to call you home. Go back quickly." Huo Baichuan waved and walked away quickly.
Whether it was her imagination or not, Zhao Shu thought she saw him chuckling, but that wasn't the point. The point was that Zhao Wanru walked up to her and said gently, "Ah Jun, please wait a moment. Now that I'm here, I must be polite and greet Aunt Huo properly."
Zhao Shu nodded. "Okay."
Zhao Wanru gave Zhao Shu a smile that didn't reach her eyes, then turned to talk to Sun Yun. Sun Yun rolled her eyes and pulled Zhao Shu, saying, "Ha, I'm so sleepy. It's lunch break time. Let's go."
"Little Guo, hold onto the food box carefully, don't spill the food your aunt has prepared." She deliberately instructed, and then glanced at Zhao Wanru and the others. She didn't recognize them, yet they kept calling her "aunt," making it seem like anyone could call her Aunt Huo "aunt"!
Seeing that Zhao Shu was about to leave, Zhao Wanru stopped her and said righteously, "Sister Ajun, we came here to find you and take you back. Shouldn't we all go back together? Guests are guests. Now that we've arrived at the Huo residence, we should greet the Huo family's steward to avoid disrespecting royal etiquette."
She was dignified and proper, the epitome of a well-bred young lady. However, that was all she was made of. In her words, she not only accused Zhao Shu of not being close to her sisters, but also criticized the Huo family for being rude to them.
“Sister A-Jun, you’re new here, so don’t be as willful and reckless as you were in the capital. Guanzhou is the ancestral home of the Zhao clan, and proper etiquette cannot be disregarded.” These were the words of Zhao Wanshi. She possessed a serene and composed demeanor, and her words were like a final, definitive statement, leaving no room for doubt.
Zhao Shu tolerated it the first time they met, and she tolerated it the second time as well, just avoiding it and not wanting to have any conflict with anyone. However, things don't always go as planned!
Going back and forth like this is suicidal!
Zhao Shu stepped forward and asked, "I wonder if the three of you have come to see me with an imperial decree?"
Imperial edicts cannot be forged, and no one can lie. The three paused for a moment, and Zhao Wanqing grinned at Zhao Shu, "You are our sister. You were not at the palace early this morning, and we were afraid something had happened to you, so we came to look for you. We didn't expect you to be at the Huo residence, so we thought we would find you to go back. Don't wander around outside. Although Guanzhou is still peaceful, there are still bad people. Between sisters, what need is there for an imperial edict? If you need an imperial edict to care for your sister, wouldn't that make you a laughing stock?"
Compared to Zhao Wanru and Zhao Wanshi, she was extremely pretty and cute. Hearing these words from her made people feel even more sorry for her and want to pamper her.
The three worked together fairly well. Zhao Shu's gaze swept over their faces one by one. Yesterday, she thought these three were just destined to be the first to stick their necks out, but now it seemed that their fighting power was not weak. If the fighting power of the first to stick their necks out was so strong, then who knows what kind of monsters and demons would follow behind.
This was a matter for the Zhao family, and Sun Yun did not interfere. Instead, he discussed with Banshu whether it was better to place Cymbidium or Camellia on the high table by the window. If Camellia were to be placed, it would have to be the Eighteen Scholars, and the Eighteen Scholars would be the best from Jiangnan, and so on.
"Since there was no imperial decree, did you receive an invitation from the Huo family?" In the past, Zhao Shu would have really cared about reputation or sisterly affection, but now, they had misjudged the situation. They came uninvited, and their words were full of barbs and sarcasm, and they even had the nerve to say it!
She gave in twice; that's very kind of her!
Upon hearing this, the three women appeared somewhat impatient and disdainful. They were indeed rude and inflexible in their speech. They had gone to such lengths to try and get acquainted with the eldest daughter and son of the Huo family. Their words implied that she was a newcomer unfamiliar with the place, while they were local strongmen. Even a powerful dragon couldn't suppress a local snake; what was Zhao Shu? Just a disgraced, fallen princess, without parents.
Wait, no, they have a father, but it's no different from not having one. They have no brothers to help them, so in the future they'll still have to rely on their brothers.
If Zhao Shu knew that this was what they were thinking, she would definitely ask them if they had any brains at all. Even if she, Zhao Shu, never had any brothers in her life, she would never rely on their brothers!
“Since we’ve come looking for you, we naturally didn’t invite you. It seems that Sister A-Jun doesn’t want us to come and pick you up? Sister A-Jun is young. If we ignore her, she might cry. We can’t let Sister A-Jun suffer any injustice in Guanzhou. We must take good care of her.” Zhao Wanru’s smile didn’t reach her eyes. Her posture was extremely dignified. She spoke to Zhao Shu as an older sister.
None of the three mentioned rank or status.
"Since the three elder sisters are so fond of taking care of me, it would be heartless of me not to give them the opportunity. Here's what we'll do: Xiao Guozi, go tell Wan Dong that the three elder sisters really want to take care of me, so let them wash the clothes. It's not like they're taking care of me if they don't wash them themselves. I was bullied in Guanzhou, so I must spread the good name of the three elder sisters taking care of their distant cousin far and wide, so as not to let down their good reputation."
