Chapter 112 Two Men

Huo Baichuan frowned. "Chuanbei? Was it the Wei family kid who took you there to eat?"

“No,” Zhao Shu retorted.

His brows relaxed, but before he could feel happy, Zhao Shu added, "He made it for me himself."

"Snap." He broke half of the peach in half. "What's so great about it? I can make it too."

Zhao Shu glanced at him and said, "You're being so childish right now."

Huo Baichuan glared at her, then stood up and repeated, "What's so great about jelly? I can make it too. Just wait." He then strode towards the kitchen.

Zhao Shu leisurely ate her cold noodles, not taking his words to heart.

A gentle breeze blew by, carrying a hint of coolness and the fragrance of earth. Zhao Shu sniffed; the air outside the city was indeed much better than in the capital. Once her brother, the Crown Prince, became emperor and swept away those evil spirits, she would move to the outskirts of the city, tending to flowers and plants every day. Life would surely be very pleasant.

But why was there a burnt smell in the wind? He sniffed, and the smell grew stronger and stronger, then he heard Little Fatty scream, "Young Master!"

She turned her head and saw that the kitchen was already on fire. Huo Baichuan came out of it looking disheveled. He was already dressed in a sorry state, but now that he came out of the kitchen, he looked even more disheveled, like a beggar on the street. Zhao Shu couldn't help but burst into laughter.

After laughing heartily for a long time, Zhao Shu finally calmed down. Once she did, she found tears streaming down her face. Huo Baichuan walked up to her, handed her two fried eggs, and said, "There was still some powder left, but we couldn't save her."

The two fried eggs were well protected by him and looked quite good, at least much better than he looked now. Zhao Shu looked at the two fried eggs with a somewhat fixed gaze, "Who knows if you poisoned them?"

"I'll eat it for you." He broke off a small piece and took a bite.

Zhao Shu stared intently at him, not because she thought it was really poisoned, but because she wanted to see his facial expression. Sure enough, his eyebrows furrowed as soon as he ate it, and he spat out the egg, saying, "It's too salty. I'll make it for you next time."

"Actually, you can still eat them after soaking them in soup." Zhao Shu couldn't bear to discourage him, but she didn't dare to accept his kindness, so she smiled and said, "But I'm full. Why don't you eat them yourself? Aunt Liu, process these two eggs and give him a bowl of cold noodles."

Huo Baichuan's eyes lit up at the first sentence, but upon hearing the second, he grabbed two eggs and ate them himself, saying, "I'm leaving. Take care."

He left like the wind, quickly disappearing from Zhao Shu's sight.

Huo Baichuan walked for a while before slowing down. He finally stopped in front of a tree, leaned against the trunk, looked in the direction where Zhao Shu was, and said softly, "Actually, even if I just soak it in soup, I wouldn't want you to eat it."

Upon hearing this, Little Fatty was so moved that tears streamed down his face, making Huo Baichuan want to give him a good beating.

After a long while, Duozi handed him a pot of water and asked, "Young master, where are we going?"

"You go protect her, I'll stay in the capital," Huo Baichuan said, but he immediately changed his mind, "I'll go to Chu."

As darkness fell, Zhao Shu, unable to resist her drowsiness, went to bed early, unaware that someone who knew nothing of martial arts was watching her from afar, feeding the mosquitoes all night.

The next day, Zhao Shu got up early. After Chu Chun helped her wash up, she practiced Tai Chi and disguised herself. By the time the morning sun shone at the village entrance, she had already left.

Her departure from the capital was arranged by Qin Ji, and Yang Zhong, Xie Yun, and others all agreed, so there was no need to worry about any accidents. She arrived in Chu smoothly all the way.

The Chu region is adjacent to the Western Liang and Shu regions and is a major military stronghold. It was previously occupied by King Jing. After the Weitingsi recaptured it, there were no civilians left in the city, as they had all been moved to a safe place.

Wei Tingsi received the news early on and personally rode dozens of miles to pick her up. When he finally saw her, it felt like an eternity had passed. It seemed that only deep longing could express the yearning in his heart.

Zhao Shu used to think that the scene of lovers reuniting after a short separation was extremely beautiful, especially the slow motion in the shot, which captured every micro-expression on the face and even in the eyes, and could move people to tears.

Then call out the other person's name again, how romantic!

But at this moment, she was very tired and hot, and didn't want to move at all. When she saw Wei Tingsi, she stopped, dismounted, and waited for him to walk to her side.

She has lived several lifetimes, but she doesn't know how to talk about love. Some people say that if you're single for a long time, you won't know how to fall in love anymore, and that's probably true for her.

Wei Tingsi flew to her side, and even though she was disguised as a refugee, he could still recognize her at a glance and did not mistake Chu Chun for her.

Zhao Shu could clearly see the longing in his eyes, which seemed to stretch endlessly like the mountains, and her heart began to beat faster for no reason.

However, things weren't so perfect. Just as he landed beside her and was about to reach out to hug her, Zhao Shu was pulled aside and heard, "Brother Wei, long time no see. I didn't know you missed me so much. Come on, give me a hug."

When did Huo Baichuan arrive? Zhao Shu was stunned. She glanced at the chubby boy. This kid was really good at fighting. If only Xiao Guozi was as good as him. A noble family is indeed a noble family. She couldn't compare to him.

Wei Tingsi's face was as cold as frost, his veins bulging, and he said in a cold voice, "Brother Huo, why are you in Chu instead of staying in the capital? There's nothing for you to do in Chu."

"Yes, I will protect her." Huo Baichuan looked at Zhao Shu. "Without me, with her confused, impulsive, and stupid personality, she would just die here."

“Shushu doesn’t need your protection, I will protect her myself.” Wei Tingsi reached out and pulled Zhao Shu over, but Huo Baichuan did not let go.

"What? Shushu?" Huo Baichuan asked incredulously, "He called you Shushu?"

Zhao Shu nodded, then said, "Let go."
