Chapter 146 Repaying Favors

His name didn't match his captivating aura, but Zhao Shu didn't care. She gestured for Chu Chun to bring the silver notes, and Chu Chun took out ten thousand taels of silver notes from her bosom and placed them on the table.

Chu Yang swallowed hard as he looked at the silver notes on the table. He had seen and touched so many silver notes before, but none of them belonged to him.

Zhao Shu took in his expression, picked up the silver note on the table and handed it to him, "Want it? Take it if you want it."

Chu Yang was startled and couldn't help but steal a glance at Zhao Shu. The little princess in front of him had clear eyes and a normal expression, and was not infatuated with him. He was also an old hand in the world and immediately understood that Zhao Shu had something for him to do. He immediately took the silver note and kowtowed to Zhao Shu, "Please tell me what you need, Princess. I will definitely not fail your kindness."

"Come closer," Zhao Shu beckoned.

Chu Yang knelt down and Zhao Shu whispered a few words in his ear. When she finished speaking, he was dumbfounded.

"After the matter is settled, I will grant you the status of a good citizen, and you can live a peaceful and prosperous life from now on."

Chu Yang was stunned. He stared blankly at Zhao Shu, as if savoring her words. To live a peaceful and prosperous life as a law-abiding citizen was something he longed for but could not have. Even if it was hard and tiring, it was better than undressing people in a brothel.

"Why haven't you thanked the princess for her great kindness yet?" Little Zhu reminded him.

Upon hearing Xiao Zhu Zi's words, Chu Yang kowtowed several times to Zhao Shu, saying, "This servant is very grateful for the Princess's great kindness. I will definitely complete the Princess's task. Please rest assured, Princess."

Zhao Shu waved him away, and Xiao Zhuzi was overjoyed to see the princess release the man. Fortunately, the princess wasn't keeping male concubines like others. Although he secretly thought that the princess was still young and probably didn't know what a male concubine was, who knows? After all, this man was too handsome and obedient to be played with. He regretted bringing Chu Yang, but he couldn't find anyone in the entire capital who met the princess's requirements better than Chu Yang.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Zhao Shu's actions. Wei Tingsi's clenched fist slowly loosened, and his frosty face softened. Zhang Chang, a trusted confidant standing beside him, looked at Wei Tingsi strangely. Lord Wei seemed angry, but he thought about it and realized he hadn't offended him. Could it be that he was going to severely reprimand that brat Lu? It must be; severely reprimanding that brat Lu would only lead to him deliberately making mistakes.

Not long after Chu Yang went downstairs, she heard a commotion coming from the neighboring courtyard. "Wang Muxuan, don't push your luck!"

"Jiang Er, giving you money is a favor. Don't be stubborn. Give me the things today and I'll let it go. If you don't, don't blame me for being impolite!" This was Wang Muxuan's voice.

Zhao Shu looked towards the neighboring courtyard, stood up and wanted to go over to take a look, but Wei Tingsi stopped her, saying, "Princess, it's better not to go over there."

"Does Your Excellency know what I am about to do?" Zhao Shu had a backup plan that required her personal attention to be effective. She didn't actually want to take the lead herself, but there were too few people available to help her.

Wei Tingsi stood up, walked to Zhao Shu, and looked at her. Since returning from Jiangnan, this was the first time he had seen Zhao Shu. He felt that she had grown up a lot, and her eyebrows and eyes were no longer so immature. He thought that in less than two years, she would have grown into a graceful young woman.

"Princess, you can listen here. I've relied on your influence too much, and I haven't been able to keep it a secret. Consider this my way of repaying your favor and as compensation for the leak." He finished speaking and left without waiting for Zhao Shu's reply.

"Princess, what about us?" Little Zhu asked hurriedly, determined not to mess up the task this time.

Zhao Shu watched Wei Tingsi's departing figure. In fact, it had little to do with Wei Tingsi that others were able to find out about her. Wei Tingsi had already helped her a lot. After thinking for a moment, she said to Xiao Zhuzi, "Spread the word about it. Remember to make sure everyone knows."

"Yes, Your Majesty, I understand. I'll take care of it right away." Little Zhu was already eager to get started. He called a few people and went downstairs.

Once everyone left, the place became empty. Zhao Shuzi wasn't the type to sit quietly and listen to others argue. She waved her hand and said, "Go find a ladder. I want to go take a look."

Eavesdropping? Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. How could the princess eavesdrop?

No one moved. Zhao Shu raised her voice, "Aren't you going?"

Chu Chun and the others were startled and reluctantly went down. Soon after, they found a ladder and placed it in the corner of the wall. Zhao Shu lifted her skirt and slowly climbed up the wall.

Next door was a plum garden, which conveniently shielded her small head from the plum trees. Through the lush foliage, she could vaguely see two groups of people facing off.

"Wang Muxuan, I, Jiang Jingzhan, misjudged you. I thought that the son of a noble family would be a refined gentleman, but I never expected that you are nothing but a rotten wretch who is all show and no substance!" Jiang Jingzhan, accompanied only by a few pageboys, was angrily accusing Wang Muxuan.

However, besides Wang Tu, Wang Muxuan also had another servant by his side. The three of them blocked Jiang Jingzhan's way out and stared at him menacingly.

"Jiang Er, how dare you judge the sons of noble families? If you know what's good for you, hand over the item now, or you'll know the consequences. Isn't your sister going to marry into the Shen family? If you don't want to be jilted, don't make me angry." Wang Muxuan remembered that the Ningguo Marquis's family and his maternal grandfather's family were related by marriage, and he immediately had an idea. The Taoist priest said that the Yin-Yang jade pendant used by the Daoist Emperor could ward off evil spirits. At first, he didn't quite believe it, but now that he saw Jiang Jingzhan so averse to mentioning the jade pendant, he was absolutely convinced that it was a sacred object and he had to get his hands on it.

Moreover, as the eldest son of the Wang family, he has always gotten whatever he wanted. Who would dare to say no to him? What is Jiang Jingzhan? He's just a nouveau riche who pulls together a few distant relatives from historical records to pretend to be a member of a noble family. How dare he presume to criticize a member of a noble family in front of him? It's truly laughable.

Jiang Jingzhan was furious when he heard this. Although he was a man, he knew his sister's desire to marry into a prestigious family. If the engagement was broken off, wouldn't that be the death of her? He used to think that Wang Muxuan was just a brainless playboy, but he never expected him to be so shameless!
