"Brother, Young Master Wang injured Young Master Jiang with a knife at Yipinju. We're already being very lenient by not reporting it to the authorities. What more do you want? Otherwise, we'll just leave you to carry Young Master Wang back yourself. Yipinju is a restaurant, not an inn. We don't accept overnight guests." The waiter was extremely arrogant and domineering, acting as if he owned the place, perfectly embodying the idea of a big restaurant bullying its customers.
This was the first time Wang Tu had suffered such humiliation. He was so angry that his face turned ashen. Back when his master was still in prison, all these snobbish people fawned over him. Now that the Wang family was in trouble, they were more ruthless than anyone else.
Seeing that he didn't speak, the waiter snorted and carried Wang Muxuan on a stretcher, one person on each end. Then they quickly left Yipinju. The crowd that had been watching the commotion had mostly dispersed, and the place was no longer as crowded as before.
Wang Tu and the page hurriedly chased after him. The young master had made a huge fool of himself. How would he ever be able to go out in public again?
Jiang Jingzhan, forgotten by everyone, waved his hand. Although he hadn't broken any bones, it still hurt a lot. He gasped for breath, glanced around, and left with his equally injured servant.
As he walked down the street, he intended to find a clothing store to buy some clothes, but he found that everyone was smiling at him, giving him genuinely kind smiles.
"Young Master Jiang truly lives up to his reputation as a son of a marquis. He is righteous and stands up for the military officers and scholars to the very end, even at the cost of serious injury. I heard he was even stabbed by Young Master Wang. That Young Master Wang is truly ill-mannered." Some people began to whisper among themselves.
Jiang Jingzhan looked around at the people, all of whom were smiling at him. They then turned around and began to praise his heroic deeds of fighting to the end on behalf of the military officers and the scholars. This made Jiang Jingzhan feel a chill in his heart. Who exactly wanted to deal with him?
He seemed to become a people's hero in an instant. Some people followed him closely in order to worship him, and while they did so, they also exaggerated his fight with Wang Muxuan.
However, the journey from Yipinju to the Ningguo Marquis's residence felt like an eternity. When he finally arrived at the Ningguo Marquis's residence, he saw Jiang He looking at him with a cold face as soon as he entered.
He looked over and saw not only his parents, but also his third uncle and aunt, as well as his elder brother, the heir of the Marquis of Ningguo. Everyone was looking at him with cold faces. He knew what was going on. At this moment, he regretted it to the core. Why did he go to Yipinju?
After recalling what had just happened, he realized that although he was very angry, he did not want to make a big deal out of it, nor did he intend to get too entangled with Wang Muxuan. However, when a group of people suddenly appeared and started talking, he became excited.
The die is cast, and explanations are useless. He knelt down with a thud; his knees were already injured, and the pain nearly made him faint.
"A-Zhan knows he was wrong, please punish him, Uncle."
Jiang Wen and his wife were heartbroken, but since Jiang He and Ji Shi were still in charge of the household, they didn't say much. After all, the trouble they had caused this time was quite serious. Everyone in the world knew that there were some intricacies between the civil and military officials, but no one had said anything, and no one had fought over words. But these two were different; they directly started fighting in public.
This is nothing short of being a "pioneer"; throughout history, no one who sticks out has ever had a good ending.
Jiang Jingzhan's attitude in admitting his mistake was good, and he had always been sensible. Jiang He sighed, swallowing back the words of reproach he had prepared. He simply patted Jiang Jingzhan's shoulder and said, "Go to the ancestral hall to calm down. Come out again on the Double Ninth Festival."
He finished speaking, sighed heavily, and went to his study. A storm raged within him. Was the Emperor really going to target him? How could he protect his entire household? Rebellion? Without a guarantee of victory, should he surrender to a prince or the Emperor? But how long could that protect the Jiang family?
In a moment of panic, Jiang Jian realized that his elder brother had aged considerably.
After watching Jiang He leave, Jiang Jingzhan and his father exchanged a glance. Then, a servant came over to help Jiang Jingzhan and took him to the ancestral hall.
After watching the play, Zhao Shu climbed down from the wall and saw Wei Tingsi standing not far away watching her. She felt she should blush, but found that deep down, climbing the wall was not a shameful thing... so she could only squeeze out a few words, "Lord Wei has once again taken advantage of my influence."
"I'll repay this favor next time," Wei Tingsi said.
As they were talking, Zhao Shu had already safely climbed down the ladder. There was no dramatic scene like in the movies where the ladder suddenly breaks down and a hero saves the damsel in distress. This shows that art imitates life, but life is far more realistic.
After descending the ladder, Chu Chun brought out a red cloak embroidered with peonies and outlined with gold thread and draped it over Zhao Shu. She adjusted the cloak and prepared to leave, saying as she went, "Alright, it's good that you remember to repay me, sir." It's so rare to get Wei Tingsi to admit that he owes a favor; why not take it?
Wei Tingsi stood still, watching Zhao Shu gradually disappear into the bamboo forest path, his gaze lingering for a long time. Manager Su walked over and bowed, saying, "Young Master, it seems that Princess Jun is unaware that Second Young Master Jiang is after her."
"She's going to Guanzhou soon, so don't let her know about this yet," Wei Tingsi said, withdrawing his gaze.
Shopkeeper Su gave an "Ah," indicating that he understood, and then asked, "The Second Young Master is getting very close to Prince Duan. What do you think, Young Master?"
"Hmph, a clown, not worth worrying about. Prince Duan has been making quite a few moves lately, so we must keep a close eye on him and lest he cause any trouble." Thinking of Prince Duan, Wei Tingsi felt a sudden chill, and Manager Su bent over again.
"Yes, young master." Manager Su said, then seemed to remember something and said, "Princess Jun seems to have discovered that Prince Duan was secretly hoarding weapons and even had someone tamper with them."
Wei Tingsi's eyes flickered, and he chuckled, "She's really lucky. She's managed to cover her tracks so that Prince Duan's people won't notice her."
After leaving Yipinju, Zhao Shu packed up a lot of snacks to take back to Huo Danlan. As the group walked through a deserted alley, they saw a man with a bruised and swollen face rushing towards her, his eyes filled with hatred, as if he had some irreconcilable grudge against her.
