"Why did you stop?" Zhao Shu asked.
At this moment, Little Fatty had returned after completing his mission. Standing next to Huo Baichuan, he looked at Zhihai warily. His white clothes had been thrown away somewhere, and his makeup had been washed off. The speed of his actions made Zhihai take a few more glances at him, and he secretly praised him for his skill.
No one answered Zhao Shu's question, and Huo Baichuan also put away his cynical smile.
“Princess, you should go back now. Her Majesty wants you to cultivate your mind and body.” Zhihai’s voice was dry and monotonous.
Zhao Shu glanced at the source of the singing in the night, then sneered. The singing made women weep silently, but what it would evoke in men was unknown.
"Good evening, Mr. Huo." Zhao Shu politely gestured to Huo Baichuan and left the corner first, returning to Qionghua Courtyard shortly afterward.
She climbed up the camphor tree without disturbing Chu Chun. Zhi Hai stood under the tree and watched her safely enter the house before silently leaving.
After he left Qionghua Courtyard, he snapped his fingers, and a dark figure emerged from the shadows. The figure knelt on one knee behind him and said, "Master."
"What's going on with Huo Baichuan?" The coldness in his words was like the wind blowing across an icy winter plain, making the dark figure tremble.
"Your subordinate is incompetent and has no idea how Young Master Huo got to the Princess's courtyard!" The shadowy figure bowed his head in apology, saying nothing more. He had been guarding Qionghua Courtyard when he suddenly saw Huo Baichuan barge in and even into the Princess's room. Huo Baichuan was no ordinary person, and since the Princess was unaware of his existence, she dared not act rashly and could only notify Zhihai, who was going to the palace to find the Empress Dowager.
Zhi Hai snorted coldly, flicked his short sleeve, and said, "You know where to go to receive your punishment."
"Yes." The shadowy figure trembled again, said "Yes," and then disappeared, leaving only Zhihai standing motionless in the night with his gloomy and ugly face.
Huo Baichuan returned to his courtyard, casually pulled out a blade of grass from somewhere, put it in his mouth, and sat down leisurely with his legs outstretched. "So, where did you go just now?"
"Young Master, after getting rid of Princess Neon, I met a master who recently came to the manor. I tried him out, and he was about equal to me." Little Fatty wasn't listening to Zhao Neon's declaration of her feelings as Huo Baichuan and Zhao Shu had said.
Upon hearing this, Huo Baichuan's eyes flashed with understanding, but he was also deeply surprised. Little Fatty's skills were unmatched in the world, and he hadn't expected that Zhihai's subordinates had such abilities. Back then, Zhihai used about a third of his eight hundred elite warriors to avenge his great enemy, and later used about a third more to protect the Empress Dowager's position. When Emperor Mingde ascended the throne, things were not peaceful, and about another third of the elite warriors were used up. It seems that what remains now are the elite of the elite.
"Zhihai is here to protect the young princess, so he doesn't conflict with us. Just be more careful in the future." He gave the order, then threw down the hay and began to untie the belt in front of his chest.
Little Fatty reached out and caught the hay that Huo Baichuan threw down, placed it on the table, turned around and went out of the room to rest in the side room.
Zhao Shu lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Her mind was filled with too many things, and she didn't know how to make them disappear.
She didn't know how much time had passed, but in a hazy state, she felt herself fall asleep. However, her mind was still somewhat clear. When she woke up the next day, her mind felt like it was filled with mush, heavy and clumsy, and she couldn't make sense of anything.
Chu Chun was startled by her haggard appearance. "Princess, why don't you sleep a little longer?"
"No need, just help me wash up." She had things to do today, so she couldn't waste time sleeping in.
Chu Chun and the others couldn't persuade her otherwise, so they worked on her makeup, managing to make her look three times more energetic despite her haggard appearance.
Xiao Zhu and the others came to pay their respects. Zhao Shu leaned back in her chair, holding a glass of milk, looking more languid than usual. She asked Green Ivy to bring her a pen and ink, wrote down a recipe, and handed it to Sheng Xia, saying, "Go and buy all these ingredients. Have Xing'er make some delicious food and send it to Second Uncle. Father is not at home, and I have not been able to entertain you properly. Now that I think about it, I feel very sorry for Second Uncle. Also, send some to Consort Zhang and my cousins."
Shengxia glanced at the ingredients. Although she wasn't a skilled cook, she knew that these ingredients wouldn't make a good dish. But since the princess wanted to buy them, what could she say? She could only hope that Xing'er could make these ingredients into something special.
Zhao Shu took in her doubts but did not explain. Current medical technology cannot explain food poisoning; at most, it knows that food ingredients can be incompatible.
Shengxia curtsied and left. Xiao Zhuzi then came forward, his face still wrapped in cloth. He was the most seriously injured, so his recovery was naturally much slower.
"Princess, everyone outside is talking about the eldest son of the Wang family. After they finished talking about the eldest son of the Wang family, they started praising the heroic deeds of the second son of the Jiang family. The people of the Ningguo Marquis's mansion can't stop them." As he spoke, he couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. He laughed so hard that his muscles twitched. He didn't care if it hurt his master or not; it was so satisfying!
Zhao Shu sneered, "Is Young Master Jiang still not married?" Although she was busy and didn't have time to care about Jiang Jingming's affairs, it didn't mean she had forgotten. He hit her father and thought he could just let it go? No way!
"I heard that the invitation has been sent, but Jiang Jishi has been refusing to agree and is currently arguing with the Marquis of Ningguo." Xiao Zhuzi had wanted to report this matter for a while.
"It's good that they've started sending out invitations. Let Granny Guo go to the mansion and check on the two concubines who have been sent there. I hope they won't be mistreated. By the way, has Granny Guo been behaving herself lately?" Zhao Shu hadn't had time to pay attention to Granny Guo, but she believed that Granny Guo would definitely not disappoint her.
Sure enough, Xiao Zhuzi lowered his head and said, "Your Highness, Granny Guo occasionally goes out. I had someone follow her all the way. She always goes to the Lin family, but Miss Lin did not see her."
