Chapter 22 Goodnight

"Thank you, sir." Zhao Shu stood up and returned the greeting. "Xiao Guozi will see you out."

"Please, sir." Xiao Guozi hurriedly gestured for Ouyang Ping to leave, and the man followed him out. Xiao Zhuzi and the others, knowing that Zhao Shuding had something to say to the Crown Prince, hurried down to guard the gate.

Suddenly, only the Crown Prince and Zhao Shu were left looking at each other in the room. "Ah Jun looks like an adult now," the Crown Prince said. He didn't want anyone to see him in such a disheveled state, but even though he tried his best to hide it, he was still in a disheveled state.

“Crown Prince, do you know what will happen to others if you die?” she choked out. “Others will take your things and live a good life, and then trample on your family. If you die, the gold mine will belong to others, the throne will belong to others, and the Empress will be dethroned and won’t even be able to save her life. Crown Prince, don’t you want revenge? Are you just going to let those who harmed you get away with it?”

The crown prince has lost his fighting spirit, his ambition, and his confidence. He is now filled with inferiority and self-pity!

Her once incredibly confident Crown Prince brother was now insecure! In just six months, the once spirited and carefree Crown Prince had become so dejected.

“Brother Crown Prince, if you give up on yourself, how can others help you? Falling to the bottom is not scary; what is scary is that others want to lend a helping hand but cannot find your hand.”

"I don't care what others say to you, but in my heart, no matter what you become, you will always be my Crown Prince brother. In my heart, no one else is qualified to be the Crown Prince. You are the rightful heir, the rightful Crown Prince. Don't give up, please don't give up, okay?"

The crown prince turned his head away, tears streaming down his face. He recalled when he first left the capital, full of ambition and vowing to make a name for himself. However, along the way, various people tried to kill him, even those close to him attempted to poison him. Yet, he did not give up, remaining ambitious. However…

He dared not recall those unbearable scenes. In Xiliang, in the dark and filthy dungeon, his legs were crippled.

"Ah Jun, you don't understand. No one would accept a cripple as the crown prince." By saying these words, he had already confronted his own bloodied and wounded heart.

Zhao Shu threw the package at him, "If others don't accept it, then we'll make them accept it! You are the crown prince, the future emperor, you are the heavens, why should others accept you?"

She wanted to mention Franklin D. Roosevelt, the only president in American history to be elected three times and die during his fourth term. He was also a leader with a leg ailment, ruling from a wheelchair, and is considered one of the greatest leaders in American history.

But I can't say.

"Besides, your leg can be healed," Zhao Shu said with a hint of exasperation.

Upon hearing this, the Crown Prince turned around abruptly. Due to the sudden movement, he felt dizzy and almost fainted. Zhao Shu quickly went over to massage him to relieve the excitement caused by the medicine.

After finally calming down, the excitement in his heart had faded, and he gave a self-deprecating laugh, "Ah Jun, don't lie to me. I know my leg is useless."

"No, as long as you can endure the pain, Mr. Ouyang said that if you interrupt it again and reconnect it, you will be able to walk like a normal person. However, you will not be able to do any strenuous activities in the future."

Zhao Shu did not hide it. She was afraid that if she kept it a secret any longer, the Crown Prince would become disheartened, lose all motivation, and his health would deteriorate further. People need fighting spirit to stay energetic.

"Really? Sir, you really say so?" the Crown Prince asked, trying hard to control his excitement. Just now, Ouyang Ping looked at his leg, shook his head and told him to rest well before leaving. Immediately afterwards, the maid brought in the medicine.

He still clearly remembered the maid saying, "Your Highness, Mr. Ouyang said he is powerless to help. Please take your medicine. Master and Master will do their best to fulfill your request."

At that time, he was heartbroken and didn't even have the courage to call Ouyang Ping back to ask. He thought to himself, "So be it. Rather than go back to the capital and be looked down upon, I might as well end it now."

However, he was then told that it was curable, and his heart clenched painfully. Fortunately, he hadn't given them the information about the gold mine.

However, he looked at the bundle on the bedding, opened it, and found two letters inside. The wax on the letters was still intact and had not been touched. One letter was addressed to Ah Jun, and the other to the Empress Dowager. Once the letters were in the Empress Dowager's hands, they were considered to have reached the Hao family.

Before meeting his maternal family, he was full of hope. When did he become so eager to die?

“Brother Crown Prince, it’s true. The doctor said that as long as you can endure the pain, your leg will get better. Don’t you even believe me?” She took the letter with her name on it and placed it on the candlelight. “I don’t understand grand principles, but I know that revenge must be taken and enemies must not be allowed to get away with it. If you are afraid, Brother Crown Prince, and afraid of your enemies, I have nothing to say. If you die, I will not offer incense or sweep your grave every year during Qingming Festival. I will also instruct the people keeping vigil not to interfere with you, not to burn paper money for you, and not to offer you any sacrifices.”

"Ha." The prince saw her pouting and found it extremely cute, and was amused by her. "If it can really be cured, I don't care about the pain. In the past six months, I have suffered all kinds of pain and hardship. It's just that Ah Jun is too disloyal. He didn't even burn incense and paper money for me."

Zhao Shu didn't know if he had truly come to his senses or was lying to her, but the Crown Prince's biggest worry at the moment was his leg. Once it was healed, he would surely rise from the ashes. All that was needed now was for him to accept treatment.

"Princess, the master has instructed His Highness the Crown Prince that it is time for his meal," Chu Chun said from the outer room.

"Bring it in." She stood up and gestured for Chu Chun to put the food down. She checked each dish and found nothing wrong before taking a little of each dish to feed the prince herself.
