Chapter 27 Old Stories (Part 1)

Jiang Yue stared intently at Prince Yong with tears streaming down her face. Although her voice was pleasant, it sent a chill down Zhao Shu's spine, making the hairs on her body stand on end.

She kept repeating the words "I want to ask him," almost as if she had lost her mind.

When obsession goes too far, it becomes a demon in one's heart; Jiang Yue has gone mad from this obsession.

"Father." Zhao Shu looked up and met Prince Yong's gaze.

Prince Yong shook his head slightly, unsure whether to tell her to keep quiet or to ignore it.

Zhao Shu chose to keep quiet and watch from the side.

Jiang Suiji was so angry that he was pointing his finger, puffing out his beard and glaring at them. "What are you all standing there for? Get him out of here!" He had already used such words.

Jiang Zuo kept glancing at Prince Yong, but Prince Yong didn't look at him, keeping his head down as if he was lost in thought.

He sighed softly, exchanged a glance with Jiang Yangshi, and forcefully pulled Jiang Yue away.

Jiang Yangshi's maid had already sent all the servants far away, and at this moment there were only a few masters and confidants in the courtyard.

Jiang Yue looked frail and struggled to her feet. Jiang Yangshi couldn't hold her back, and the nanny next to her came over to help, but Jiang Yue still managed to rush to Prince Yong's side.

Ignoring everything, she rushed to Prince Yong's side. Jiang Huiji looked up, closed her eyes, and thought to herself, "I have failed to raise my daughter properly."

Jiang Zuo was caught in a dilemma. On one side was his eldest sister, and on the other was his second brother-in-law. Both were his beloved children. Moreover, he had seen his eldest sister suffer unbearable pain over the years and even refused to marry him on the grounds that she could not bear children. He also harbored some resentment towards Prince Yong.

Being caught in a dilemma leads to indulgence.

Jiang Yue stared straight at Prince Yong, tears streaming down her face, large drops tracing down her cheeks. Already possessing a beautiful face, she looked utterly pitiful.

"Why?" These three words seemed to have exhausted all her strength, and she collapsed into Jiang Yangshi's arms, but her eyes were still fixed on Prince Yong, afraid of missing even the slightest expression from him.

"Wild grasses grow in the fields, glistening with dew. There is a beautiful woman, graceful and charming. We meet by chance, and it is exactly what I desire. Wild grasses grow in the fields, heavy with dew. There is a beautiful woman, graceful and charming. We meet by chance, and we will be together forever." She sang softly, her voice as melodious as a nightingale's.

"Many years have passed since then, and I do not wish to bring it up again. Miss Jiang, please have some self-respect." Prince Yong spoke with unprecedented clarity and rationality.

This was the first time Zhao Shu had seen her father like this, and she couldn't help but wonder what had happened. That day at the waterside pavilion, she saw her father, who had an otherworldly air about him. Now that Jiang Yue was so persistent, she had reason to believe that the Prince Yong was once the dream man of many young ladies.

“Miss Jiang? Self-respect? Huai Lang, you actually called me Miss Jiang? And told me to self-respect?” Her focus wasn’t on the part about not wanting to talk about the past anymore. It was as if she was mocking Prince Yong, this heartless man, or as if she was mocking herself for how worthless her persistence was.

Prince Yong's given name was Zhao Chonghou, and his courtesy name was Lehuai. People only knew his title and not his given name and courtesy name. This was the first time Zhao Shu had heard someone call her father "Father" like this, and she looked at Prince Yong with suspicion.

Considering the dozens of concubines in his mansion, not counting the singing girls, although many of them were forced into the household by others, as a prince, he had to rescue beauties on average four or five times a year, buy back six or seven filial daughters who had sold themselves to bury their fathers, and encounter beautiful women by chance three or four times...

Jiang Yue's tragedy might also be due to her father's fault. Although she didn't want to think that way, Jiang Yue's heartbroken appearance made her, as a woman, feel pity for her.

Prince Yong was not moved in the slightest by her heartbroken tears. “You know the truth of what happened back then better than I do. Everything in this world has a cause and effect. The cause you planted has brought you the effect you are experiencing today. No one can blame anyone else.”

Zhao Shu wanted to continue listening, but Bi Qiao and Granny Zhuang forcibly pulled her out. Except for Jiang Yue, everyone from the Jiang family left the main courtyard, leaving the space to Prince Yong and Jiang Yue.

Zhao Shu was very worried and wanted to hear the details. Although Jiang Yue was a bit older, she was beautiful and pitiful, and deeply in love with Prince Yong. She was afraid that her father, who liked to bring women into the mansion, would not be able to resist agreeing to marry Jiang Yue.

Jiang Yue is her own aunt and the eldest daughter of the Marquis's family. If she enters the Prince's Mansion, even if she cannot have children, she will still be a concubine. Concubines are different from ordinary concubines and maids; they are listed in the family genealogy.

Judging from Jiang Yue's condition, she has become obsessed with Prince Yong. If she enters the Prince's mansion, can she still expect him to treat her as his own daughter?

Don't joke around, she wouldn't dare to make such a joke.

After the group came out, Jiang Yangshi noticed that Zhao Shu's expression was not very good, so she asked Jiang Suiji in a low voice, "Father, is this appropriate?"

"Make her give up!" Jiang Suiji said angrily, then turned and left.

He took a few steps, then remembered that Zhao Shu was still there, so he turned back. "Girl, come with your maternal grandfather."

Zhao Shu quickly concealed her displeasure and went to the study with Jiang Suiji.

In the main courtyard.

Jiang Yue stared at Prince Yong with her beautiful eyes like a vengeful ghost. "What about Second Sister? She was the one who stole you away, so why did you marry her? She's already dead, but you still won't change your mind. I can give up having children to compete with A-Jun for status, and I can give up the title of Princess Consort. I only want you. Why are you so heartless!"

With no one else around, Prince Yong's already tense nerves tightened even more. He took a few steps back, keeping his distance from Jiang Yue, and put his hands behind his back.

His gaze fell on Jiang Yue's face, looking at the face that was almost identical to that of his deceased wife. A moment of confusion flashed in his eyes, but it quickly cleared up. "If it weren't for your schemes in the past, Ying'er would still be alive today, and A-Jun wouldn't have lost his mother and brothers. I thought you had truly repented all these years, but I didn't expect you to blame everything on Ying'er. Since you asked why you married Ying'er back then, I will tell you."
