Zhao Shu missed the opening, but Uncle Fu and Ban Shu made it.
As soon as they climbed onto the pavilion, they heard Sun Yun say with a smile, "Miss Huo is here too."
Miss Huo? Isn't the change in address a bit too quick? The group stumbled and almost lost their balance, but they still managed not to embarrass Prince Yong and Sun Yun.
Huo Danlan trembled slightly, but quickly recovered. After all, she was no stranger to the world. Sun Yun smiled, and she also raised a faint smile, not wanting to lose face. "I didn't know A-Yun was coming too. I forgot to bring a teacup."
"It's alright, Your Highness and I can use the same one." Sun Yun didn't care at all, holding Prince Yong's hand tightly and refusing to let go. After saying that, she pretended to be a shy little woman and asked Prince Yong, "I don't like strong tea, what about Your Highness?"
"Drink whatever you like," Prince Yong said politely.
Huo Danlan's gaze fell on the two people's hands, a hint of pain flashed in her eyes, she pursed her lips, and couldn't help but say, "Although the Empress Dowager has issued an imperial decree to grant the marriage, it is not yet a marriage. The proper separation of men and women must still be observed. What do you think, A-Yun? You have always been on good terms with A-Jun, so you should also consider her feelings."
Sun Yun's expression didn't change upon hearing this, but Prince Yong's expression turned somewhat ugly, and Ban Shu and Uncle Fu's expressions immediately fell. What did he mean by that?
They say their daughter already has a bad reputation, so why drag Princess Jun into this mess? Hmph, even if they did, they're still family. What right does an outsider have to criticize them?
Glancing at the group of people, before Prince Yong could speak, Sun Yun spoke first: "Miss Huo is absolutely right. As expected of a lady from a family of scholars, her temperament and manners are unmatched. Alright, let's not talk about that. May I ask what brings Miss Huo here? Are you also here to see the autumn scenery? I've heard that Fengshan is full of talented and romantic men and women. It's quite a place for leisurely strolls. Oh, wait, just now you said you brought two cups? Your Highness, did you arrange this with Miss Huo?"
She feigned magnanimity, but the anger in her eyes was undeniable. No matter how magnanimous she pretended, she didn't look like a magnanimous person; she looked more like someone who was jealous.
“I am a married man and would not dare to make an appointment with others behind your back.” Prince Yong spoke the truth, without any pretense or bias.
He was simply stating the facts and explaining his principles as a husband, nothing more. He had thought of Jiang Ying before, and he hadn't forgotten her yet, but Sun Yun was already engaged to him and had a close relationship with Zhao Shu. He had also shared hardships with Sun Yun in the past, so she was naturally different from any other woman. He couldn't hurt Sun Yun just because he had once been deeply moved by her.
He wouldn't do something like hurting others while claiming to have someone in his heart; he certainly wouldn't do that to Sun Yun.
Upon hearing this, the jealousy that had been lingering in Sun Yun's eyes vanished instantly. She smiled sweetly, like a fool, and then said shyly, "I believe you."
At this point, Zhao Shu and Wei Tingsi finally arrived. Since it was an elder resolving a relationship dispute, the two dared not approach rashly and could only hide in the shadows to eavesdrop.
Fortunately, Wei Tingsi was skilled enough that he could bring Zhao Shu with him without being discovered.
"I never expected my father to say such mushy things," Zhao Shu said in disbelief. In her memory, her father was a blockhead who was not good with words, good-looking but with low emotional intelligence.
Wei Tingsi looked down at her, smoothed her wind-blown hair, and then said, "What mushy things did your father say to you? If you want to hear it, I'll tell you."
Zhao Shu: ... glared at him, then stomped on his foot, and also gave him a hard elbow twist. However, the target was Wei Tingsi, whose whole body seemed to be made of iron.
"Why are you so glib? Who corrupted you!"
Seeing her pouting as if she were extremely angry, Wei Tingsi smiled, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "I want to corrupt you."
"Tsk..." Zhao Shu rolled her eyes at him, only to be met with a smug laugh. "When you start being a little more glib with me, I won't learn bad habits."
Zhang Chang, who had been rushing, finally caught up with the two of them. With a bitter face, he came over to report something and happened to overhear their conversation. Whether it was fate or not, he felt a sudden urge to speak up and said in a low voice, "Princess, don't be fooled by our Marshal's shyness in the past. He was just imitating Military Advisor Wang. Now that the Advisor is not here, he has become himself again."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Shu gave Wei Tingsi a dangerous look, crossed her arms, and looked like she was about to explode. "So, your aloofness was all an act?"
Wei Tingsi ignored her and said in a low voice, "Let's talk somewhere else." After saying that, he took the lead and walked to the other side, away from Sun Yun and the others, so that they would not find him.
"No, Princess, our Marshal is genuinely aloof, but that's only towards others. To you, he's a complete scoundrel..."
Before Zhang Chang could finish speaking, he received a warning look from Wei Tingsi and quickly shut his mouth. He then lowered his head and stammered, "Um, I have something to report."
"Hmm." Wei Tingsi gave a cold "hmm," then stood in front of Zhang Chang with his hands behind his back, like an iceberg, making Zhang Chang want to slap himself. Why did he have to be so sarcastic! Why did he have to be so sarcastic!
"Marshal, Prince Augustus is returning home tomorrow, and he wants to take one hundred muskets with him. What do you think?"
Without a second thought, Wei Tingsi nodded. "Sure, give him the musket, and he'll also get two sets of landmines and grenade throwers as a bonus."
"Marshal, this... this will cost a lot of money. Can we not be so generous?" Zhang Chang felt uncomfortable with the financial burden.
Wei Tingsi looked at him, showing no sign of changing his mind, his expressionless face causing him to swallow back the words of advice he was about to say.
“If we send out two carriages, other countries will spend money to buy them from us. This will help develop their economies and improve the lives of their people,” he explained, despite his aloof demeanor.
Zhang Chang disagreed, but mustered his courage and said, "Marshal, with our powerful weapons, wouldn't it be better to just attack directly and unify the world?"
