Chapter 79 A Place

At the same time, in different places.

Zhao Shu felt her eyelids twitching faster and faster, making it impossible for her to rest properly. Her heart was pounding wildly, as if something bad was about to happen.

"Shushu, are you still feeling uneasy?" Wei Tingsi brought her a cup of warm tea. "Are you worried about your father?"

Zhao Shu nodded. "Yes, I have a feeling that this flood will plunge the world into chaos. What do you think those people are thinking? They create man-made disasters in addition to natural ones. Aren't they afraid of divine retribution?"

That's what she said, but even she herself felt that this was a good opportunity to rebel. If she were one of those vassal kings, knowing that she was going to be eliminated, it would be foolish not to take the opportunity to rebel when natural disasters came.

Wei Tingsi reached out and smoothed the worry from her brows, saying softly, "Don't worry, the Prince of Yan doesn't have that guts."

Such comfort felt weak even to himself. Now it wasn't a question of whether he had the guts or not, but that if he didn't stand up and resist, he would be destroyed. Even if the King of Yan himself didn't have that kind of guts, the people around him did.

Moreover, neighboring the fiefdom of the Prince of Yan are the Prince of Jing and the Prince of Shu. These two are not to be underestimated. The Prince of Shu has been rooted in Sichuan for two generations and is already the true Prince of Shu. How could he be willing to be stripped of his title now?

"What if it were the King of Yan? My teacher went to Shu, and my father went to Chu. I am very confused." If the King of Yan and the King of Shu really choose to rebel at this time, then the first thing to do will be to establish their authority. They can kill Luo Hu and the King of Yong, and then smear them with false accusations.

By claiming to be speaking out for the people, it is easy to gain their support.

Wei Tingsi tenderly pulled her into his arms, gently stroking her hair and softly comforting her, "Don't worry, your father and Mr. Luo are not ordinary people. They can protect themselves. Don't overthink it. We'll see the Hermit of Jiecao tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow we'll return to the capital, how about that?"

Zhao Shu sighed. This was all she could do. What else could she do? She had thought that if she didn't leave the capital and stay out of the world, she might be safe, but how could that be?

"I'll take you somewhere." Wei Tingsi seemed to have made up his mind, and said this very carefully.

Zhao Shu looked at him upon hearing this, "What place?" After the incident of stargazing last time, she wasn't particularly looking forward to 'this place' now.

Wei Tingsi was quite hurt. These days he had deeply felt that it seemed impossible to open Zhao Shu's heart and get her to give her her heart.

But he never thought of giving up. He had chosen this woman a long time ago, so how could he give up so easily?

“A place where you can feel at ease.” Wei Tingsi put his arm around her waist, and with a few leaps, they scaled walls and rooftops, leaving the city and arriving at a small village after about an hour.

The village was quiet and deserted, and the houses were extremely dilapidated, giving it a ghost village feel.

A wooden sign hangs crookedly on a big tree at the village entrance, bearing the eerie words "Abandoned Village," which only adds to the village's sinister atmosphere.

Zhao Shu looked up and met Wei Tingsi's gaze. "Why did you bring me here?" Instinctively, she felt that this place was definitely not simple.

Wei Tingsi grinned, pretending to scare her, and made a face, "Ghost Village, are you scared?"

Zhao Shu shook her head. It wasn't like she hadn't watched horror movies before. Although she had time-traveled and been reborn, she still stubbornly clung to her atheism, a strange conviction that even she found unbelievable.

Wei Tingsi was disheartened. He took her hand and led her step by step into the deserted village. Wild grass grew everywhere along the roadside, and the dilapidated houses emitted a musty smell after the heavy rain, which was almost suffocating.

"Shushu, what are you afraid of?" Wei Tingsi started a conversation, trying to divert Zhao Shu's attention. He felt sorry for her when he saw her worried look.

"I'm afraid something might happen to my father and teacher," Zhao Shu said honestly.

Weitingsi: ...

As they spoke, they entered the village. Along the way, apart from dilapidated houses, there wasn't even a single rat. "Would you like to hear the story of this village?"

"Hmm." Since walking was extremely boring anyway, Zhao Shu didn't care much and nodded listlessly.

"Legend has it that this village used to be extremely prosperous. Several kind-hearted people came from the village. When a deity in heaven heard about this, he decided to descend to earth to test whether these people were truly so kind."

"So the god transformed into an ugly man and came to the village, begging from house to house. When the people saw that he was ugly and his face was covered with pustules, they refused to let him in and only gave him dog food. The god felt that he had been deceived and, in a fit of anger, wanted to punish the people of the village, but at this moment a woman appeared."

"The woman was very beautiful. She didn't mind the god's ugly appearance and even carefully treated the boils on his face. As time went by, the god fell in love with the woman. Gradually, the god pretended to be healed and revealed his true appearance. Thus, he successfully married the woman."

At this point in the story, an ordinary woman would surely have shared her thoughts, but Zhao Shu didn't ask any further questions. She simply thought to herself, "Indeed, whether you're a god or a mortal, looks matter."

"But this good fortune didn't last long. Many of the village women, seeing that the fairy was beautiful, harbored evil intentions." After saying this, he carefully observed Zhao Shu's expression. Seeing that she didn't show much emotion, he continued, "The women all wanted to marry the fairy, but the fairy was unwilling to marry them. He only wanted to live with his wife. The village women had no choice but to think of another way. Finally, they found an opportunity. One day, the fairy returned to heaven, and the village women killed the woman."

It was such a cliché story, but Zhao Shu understood what he meant, and her heart felt warm.

"When the immortal returned to the village, he found that the woman was dead. In a fit of rage, he cursed the village, saying that no one who lived in the village would live more than three years, no matter where they fled. Thus, the village became a ghost town."
