Guanzhou was built along the river, and the river that runs through the middle of Guanzhou is called the Qingshui River by the locals. It is said that there is a beautiful legend about the Qingshui River about a fairy, which is somewhat similar to the legend of Dong Yong and the Seven Fairies. Zhao Shu listened to Green Ivy chattering about the beautiful legend she had heard about that morning in the carriage, and chuckled, coming to a conclusion: women love bad boys, which is indeed an age-old truth.
The Huo residence is located in the north of the city, and one must cross the river to reach it. Most of the residences of other prominent families are also in the north of the city. More than two-thirds of the land and property in Guanzhou belong to the imperial family.
"Princess, the Qingshui River isn't actually that big, so why is it called a river? Is it because the water is naturally clear, hence the name Qingshui River?" Green Ivy finally finished telling the story of the fairy and the mortal, then tilted her head and asked Zhao Shu with the curiosity of a child.
Zhao Shu thought for a moment and asked, "Why are you called Green Ivy?"
"When I first arrived at the manor, I was wearing green, and then the nanny named me Green Ivy. I don't know why I was called Green Ivy." Green Ivy's increasingly beautiful eyebrows were furrowed tightly.
Half-gathered, unable to bear it any longer, poked her and said, "Little Green Ivy, Green Ivy is a kind of grass that is easy to grow. The old lady only did this because she thinks you are so small and hopes that you can grow up safely. You will have to thank the old lady in the future."
Green Ivy nodded in deep agreement, then turned to ask Half-Bundle, "Sister Half-Bundle, why is your name Half-Bundle?"
Ashamed at the question, Sun Yun turned his head away, lifted the carriage curtain to look at the scenery outside. The Qingshui River was not very big, and the current was not rapid. High embankments were built on both sides of the river, and the bridge across the river was a suspension bridge, which swayed when walking across it.
"Ah Jun, look! Is there someone in the river?" Sun Yun suddenly shouted anxiously to Zhao Shu.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Shu quickly looked over and saw several splashes of water rising in the river, as if someone were actually struggling. "Someone has gone into the water!" Zhao Shu exclaimed, her eyes widening. The person who went into the water looked somewhat familiar.
We were quite far away, and the carriage was still moving. Just as we left the suspension bridge, we saw the child who had fallen into the river being rescued. However, we were now even further away, and we couldn't see the face of the brave man who had jumped into the water to save the child.
They arrived at the Huo residence without any obstacles. Green Luo still didn't know why Half Bundle was called Half Bundle. After getting off the carriage, she saw Huo Danlan and Huo Guxian waiting at the door.
As soon as Huo Guxian saw Zhao Shu and Sun Yun get out of the car, he bowed respectfully like a little adult. His delicate little face was adorable, but he looked too mature, which made people feel sorry for him and also found him particularly cute.
"Xian greets my two elder sisters."
Zhao Shu had something on her mind, wondering if the Crown Prince had been brought to Guanzhou, while Sun Yun, carefree and oblivious, decided to tease Huo Guxian. She deliberately imitated Huo Guxian's gesture of bowing, saying, "Sun greets Young Master Huo."
Huo Guxianteng's face turned red. He wanted to puff up his cheeks in anger, but he always remembered the gentlemanly demeanor his teacher had taught him, so he couldn't say a word. In the end, he awkwardly took out a wooden hairpin with orchids from his pocket and handed it to Sun Yun, saying, "This is a gift from Xian to Sister Sun. Thank you for giving Xian candy last time."
The magnolia hairpin is carved from wood. Although the carving is somewhat clumsy, it is still a genuine magnolia flower.
"Xian'er is so sensible." Zhao Shu walked over and patted Huo Guxian's head.
He cleverly avoided it, and said to Zhao Shu in a righteous tone, "Xian is a man, Sister Ajun, you must not touch Xian's head."
"Thank you for the hairpin, man. I like it very much. Please keep half of it for me and store it away in my trunk." Sun Yun laughed unkindly, which made Huo Guxian even more embarrassed. He had no money, but he always remembered that it was impolite not to reciprocate, so he carved a hairpin for Sun Yun himself. He had ruined many of them before he finally made one.
As they were talking, Huo Baichuan walked up from behind Zhao Shu and the others and said loudly, "You little rascal, you have the style of your second uncle. You're so young and you already know how to win a girl's heart. Well done."
Huo Guxian was no longer ashamed. Instead, she said to Huo Baichuan with righteous indignation, "Second Uncle, you are mistaken. Reputation is the foundation of a woman's life. Please be careful with your words."
Upon hearing Huo Guxian's words, Zhao Shu looked at Huo Baichuan with a hint of schadenfreude. She saw that he was soaking wet, and Duo Zi was holding a five or six-year-old child beside him. The child's eyes were red from crying, and he was clinging to Duo Zi, looking fearfully at the group of people who were laughing with unclear intentions. His whole body was trembling.
"Why are you soaking wet? Go change your clothes! Magpie, go and have someone make some ginger soup for the young master." Huo Danlan anxiously ordered, extremely dissatisfied and worried about Huo Baichuan being completely soaked. "Whose child is this?"
Huo Baichuan gestured with his chin towards Zhao Shu, implying that it referred to the Zhao family. Zhao Shu pointed to herself in confusion and asked, "I'm the only daughter in my family. Mr. Huo, are you sure you're not mistaken?"
"If you don't believe me, ask him yourself. His surname is Zhao, and he lives in the west of the city." After saying this, Huo Baichuan took the lead and walked into the Huo residence.
Zhao Shu had something to ask Huo Danlan at the moment, so she didn't pay attention to the child and only said to Chu Chun, "Since he is a descendant of the Zhao family, please take care of him and send him home."
After saying that, without waiting for Chu Chun's reply, he wrapped his arm around Huo Danlan's and asked, "Aunt, I didn't know you had a guest from afar. Is it my brother?"
"Your brother?" Huo Danlan paused for a few breaths in confusion before realizing that Zhao Shu was probably referring to the Crown Prince. She had only just learned about the Crown Prince and felt sorry for the child. She shook her head. "It's not the Crown Prince. I've found all the medicinal herbs you wanted and asked you to come and take a look. Also, you must not have eaten well yesterday. Your aunt has prepared a delicious meal for you, and it should be ready to serve now. Hurry up, or it will get cold."
"Auntie is so kind. I'm so hungry right now. Let's go quickly." Sun Yun held her stomach and made a devilish gesture, which made Huo Danlan's eyes fill with laughter.
Zhao Shu was somewhat disappointed, but Huo Danlan's good intentions warmed her heart. The group arrived at the Xiyan Courtyard of the Huo residence, where a large table of dishes had already been set out in the hall, many of which were dishes they had never eaten in the capital.
