Chapter 97 Only I'm Allowed to Pinch

Zhao Shu instinctively wanted to refuse to answer this question.

But his gaze was intense, and he didn't seem like he would let it go easily, so I couldn't not answer.

“It’s the kind of situation you know.” Zhao Shu admitted that she didn’t know what Huo Baichuan knew, so she simply gave in to his wishes and let him control her answer, even though he might not be satisfied.

Huo Baichuan handed her a cup of wild tea. The aroma of the tea filled the air, and a refreshing fragrance wafted in the wind, making one feel relaxed and happy.

Zhao Shu took a sip, amazed by his superb tea skills.

As darkness fell, he put away the tea set, took out the prepared game, lit a fire, and began to roast it. He seemed not to have asked the question earlier, nor did he seem to have heard Zhao Shu's answer.

He roasted a pheasant, cut off a leg with a dagger, and handed it to Zhao Shu, saying, "I've heard that food tastes especially good when eaten in the mountains."

Zhao Shu took it, smiled in agreement, and didn't reply.

"What did you just say? You and the Wei family boy," he asked again.

This time, Zhao Shu felt that the previous answer was not enough to summarize the situation, but she repeated the words exactly, "the kind of situation you know."

"Yes, I know, I understand." He nodded, a bright smile spreading across his face.

Zhao Shu realized she had fallen into his trap and wanted to explain, but he didn't give her a chance. He magically produced two steamed buns, giving one to Zhao Shu, saying, "Don't go hungry in the middle of nowhere."

"Where did you get this from?" Zhao Shu asked with disdain.

He looked up at Zhao Shu, his face full of hurt. "You despise me?"

"You knew it, yet you still said it out loud. Aren't you afraid of being embarrassed?" Zhao Shu was speechless.

"It would be awkward if I didn't say it. I'm relieved that you're disgusted with me. I'm hungry anyway. One isn't enough. Give me back the bun if you don't want it." He reached out, staring at the bun in Zhao Shu's hand like a demon.

Zhao Shu glanced at him. He was clean from head to toe, with no dirt under his fingernails. His black hair hung casually down his back without being tied up, but it didn't look dirty or messy. Instead, it looked very relaxed. If he were to be depicted in a painting, he would surely be a beautiful sight.

Moreover, he had no odor, let alone bad breath; he had none of those. If you got close to him, you could even smell a faint fragrance.

It shouldn't be dirty; if I don't eat, I'm afraid I'll get hungry.

He took a bite of the bun, saying, "I'm not giving it to you."

The steamed buns are vegetarian, but paired with the roasted meat, they're not greasy at all.

"You're just saying that." Huo Baichuan rolled his eyes at Zhao Shu, but couldn't help but smile.

"I didn't," Zhao Shu retorted in a pretentious manner.

Huo Baichuan chuckled. At this moment, he felt more and more that Zhao Shu was a real young girl, a smart young girl, a capable young girl, and inexplicably charming.

How come I never noticed how adorable she was before? Huo Baichuan began to reflect on himself. After thinking it over, he realized that Zhao Shu had acted too invincibly, even more capable than a man, and he had instinctively overlooked her feminine radiance.

“Okay, you don’t.” He drew out the words.

At this moment, Zhao Shu felt that he resembled Uncle Huo a bit, so she called out, "Uncle Huo."

"I really mean it when I say I want to marry you. There's no need to use seniority to fob me off. If I want to marry someone, I'll marry even my own niece." He said this half-jokingly and half-seriously, pretending to scare Zhao Shu.

Zhao Shu wondered if she should blush and feel shy. She touched her face; it was burning hot, as if it had been roasted by fire.

"What's wrong with you?" Zhao Shu didn't think he was serious. She remembered him saying before that even if he wasn't married, she wouldn't have a chance.

She still remembers those words; he had looked down on her back then.

Huo Baichuan stood up and carefully examined each epiphyllum flower. As he looked at them, he said to Zhao Shu, "I'm not crazy, I just want to marry you."

Zhao Shu thought that this person definitely didn't know what love was. He was too proud and thought that he could get whatever he wanted and that no one could refuse him.

Some people used to say that people who fall in love are fools.

Perhaps he'll understand when he makes a foolish mistake.

"Yes, I know, but I will not marry you," Zhao Shuxin said calmly.

A person who doesn't understand love and a person who doesn't believe in love seem to be negotiating.

Suddenly, Little Fatty rushed over and said anxiously, "Young Master, we must leave quickly! Another force has suddenly appeared, and it seems they want to help Hermit Jiecao and the others escape!"

Huo Baichuan immediately abandoned his leisurely demeanor and asked solemnly, "Do you know where that force comes from?"

"Young Master." The chubby boy glanced at Zhao Shu, clearly indicating that it was a secret and he didn't want Zhao Shu to know.

Huo Baichuan didn't care at all, "Speak!"

Little Fatty had no choice but to report the truth to Zhao Shu, "He is the Emperor's man."

Zhao Shu was shocked. She had thought of Prince Jing, Prince Shu, various other princes, or certain families and princes, but she never thought it would be Emperor Mingde!

Huo Baichuan frowned. "Are you sure?" In a flash, he had figured out all the key points.

"I'm sure it's Qin Ji who's coming," said Little Fatty. Qin Ji is a formidable rival, with few opponents in the world today.

Zhao Shu frowned. Why was it Qin Ji?

Seeing that both of them were frowning, Little Fatty didn't say anything more and quietly waited for instructions.

The wind rustled the leaves around the fire, causing it to sway and tilt.

After a long while, Huo Baichuan suddenly said, "Take the princess to Bianzhou, and be quick!"

"No!" Zhao Shu jumped away immediately, afraid that Xiao Pang's evil claws would reach out and she, not knowing martial arts, would be unable to resist.

Huo Baichuan turned his head and looked at her directly, "If the Yongwang Mansion withdraws, it's still not too late."

Zhao Shu's heart pounded. What did those words mean? She had investigated for so long, yet she still felt completely lost.

"Why?"

“A few days ago, the Emperor sent Qin Ji to investigate Empress Yide. She is still alive. Her goal is the Empress Dowager and the Crown Prince’s position. With the Emperor around, the Empress Dowager will definitely compromise to protect the Prince Yong’s mansion. Listen to me, go to Bianzhou. The Huo family will protect you. I will find a way to protect the Empress Dowager and the Crown Prince, okay?” He said, his gaze seemingly unbreakable. No matter how Zhao Shu pleaded or begged, his mind was made up.
