Chapter 10 News

Zhao Shu thought for a while before picking through the dried medicinal herbs in the yard, selecting two doses of medicine, and handing them to Sheng Xia to take with Xin Wei to decoct.

She wasn't sure if it would work, but the prescriptions in the book had all been tested repeatedly and stood out from similar prescriptions before being included in the book, so she hoped they would be useful.

Next to the medicine shed was a place to decoct medicine, fully equipped. In the height of summer, the two of them, each tending a stove, began to decoct the medicine.

About 15 minutes later, Physician Peng and Doctor Lou came out of the house. They looked at each other, shook their heads, and sighed helplessly.

Zhao Shu hurried over and asked Physician Peng, "Physician Peng, how is Mr. Ouyang?"

The old physician Peng looked at Zhao Shu and sighed heavily. He sighed because Zhao Shu might miss the opportunity to become the immortal physician's apprentice, and also because her condition was not optimistic.

Without needing an answer, Zhao Shu knew the situation was bad, and wanted to see Ouyang Ping herself. "Old Peng, may I go in and take a look?"

The old physician Peng sighed again and waved his hand, "The doctor needs to rest quietly. It's no use you going in. He can't talk to you; he'll cough easily if he does."

Zhao Shu shook her head and assured him, "I won't speak to the old man, I'm just going to take a look, is that alright?"

Physician Peng's gaze fell on Doctor Lou. Zhao Shu followed his gaze and saw that Doctor Lou had walked to Sheng Xia's side and was asking her a question.

"Let's go and see, lest we have any regrets." He truly believed that Zhao Shu was talented. If she could learn medicine from the White-Haired Immortal Doctor, her skills would likely be extraordinary. He always felt that if he obtained Zhao Shu's prescription, his reputation would surely grow even more renowned. However, he was unable to do anything for Zhao Shu. He finally had a chance to repay her, but... sigh.

Zhao Shu followed Physician Peng into the room. On the simple bed, Ouyang Ping was resting with his eyes closed. Hearing the sound, he opened his eyes, nodded very gently to Physician Peng, and then looked at Zhao Shu with a kind smile.

Ouyang Ping was not like the characters in novels. All medical immortals and saints must have strange quirks, and most of them are rather eccentric. But he was not. He was a kind old man whose smile made people feel at ease. The most beautiful smile of a doctor is that which makes people feel at ease and want to trust him.

Zhao Shu bowed and said in a soft voice, "Sir, there's no need for you to speak. I'll just listen. I'd like to ask you a few questions. Please nod if you'd like."

Ouyang Ping smiled kindly and nodded. With permission, Zhao Shu asked in a soft and gentle voice, "Do you feel any tightness or pain behind your sternum right now?"

Physician Peng anxiously watched the door from the side, fearing that Doctor Lou might come in at any moment. Ouyang Ping listened to Zhao Shu's words, smiled and nodded, a hint of surprise flashing across his face before turning into an expression of certainty.

Zhao Shu took a few deep breaths, then asked again, "Your cough is chronic, recurring, and gradually worsening, especially in winter and spring, is that correct?"

Ouyang Ping was surprised again, but still nodded with a smile. Zhao Shu then asked about other symptoms, which were ruled out one by one. It was not tuberculosis or lung cancer, and asthma was also impossible. Finally, it was diagnosed as chronic bronchitis, with complications from bronchiectasis.

He was a skilled physician who treated himself. Fortunately, his health hadn't completely collapsed, and he still had a chance. However, even though he was known as a medical genius, he was limited by the dynasty he lived in. There were no more skilled physicians to learn from and exchange ideas with, so his room for improvement was limited. Therefore, he considered many illnesses to be incurable.

After asking the questions, Zhao Shu glanced at the pen and ink on the table, then spread out the paper, placed a paperweight on it, and wrote down two prescriptions. These two prescriptions were the two doses of medicine that she had Sheng Xia and Xin Wei brewed earlier.

After writing it down, I presented it to Ouyang Ping. "You are knowledgeable in pharmacology. Look at these two prescriptions. Which one is more suitable for you? I have diagnosed your symptoms as pathogenic factors invading the body and impairing the lung qi."

Having practiced medicine for decades, Ouyang was naturally familiar with the medicinal herbs and their pharmacology described by Zhao Shu. However, he had never seen anyone prescribe them in this way before, but upon careful consideration, he found it to be extremely reasonable.

Among those who study medicine, there are those who are ruthless and insane, and they will use living people to test medicine. However, Ouyang Ping would not do such a thing. After carefully examining Zhao Shu's prescription, he felt that it was extremely reasonable and much better than many of the prescriptions he had made before, so he decided to try it on himself.

“I’ll give this post a try,” he said to Zhao Shu, pointing to a prescription with relatively strong medicinal properties.

Zhao Shu didn't really agree with using strong medicine, but she had no experience and had to listen to Ouyang Ping.

The old physician Peng took the prescription from Zhao Shu, put it in his pocket, and was overjoyed. "I'll go and decoct the medicine."

Zhao Shu stopped him, "I've already asked Shengxia and Xinwei to fry it. Old Master Peng, just wait."

However, just as she finished speaking, Doctor Lou entered with a gloomy face. "I wonder who the princess is having the servants prepare this medicine for?" He had smelled the medicine, and the prescription inside was not one he was familiar with. Randomly preparing medicine could lead to serious problems!

Physician Peng immediately stepped in front of Zhao Shu and confronted Doctor Lou, saying, "Old Lou, the prescription was approved by the doctor, and I still have it, but I will not show it to you."

Dr. Lou had no time for a verbal battle. He was in a hurry and was prescribing medicine haphazardly, which could really kill someone! Doctors have the heart of parents; how can they treat this like a joke!

“I agreed to it, so don’t say anything more.” Ouyang Ping managed to utter a few words. Doctor Lou became even more anxious and pushed aside Old Physician Peng, saying anxiously to Ouyang Ping, “Sir, you can’t do this recklessly. How about I test the medicine on you first?” He was genuinely worried about Ouyang Ping.

Ouyang Ping shook his head with a smile. At this moment, Physician Peng quickly gave Zhao Shu a look, telling her to leave quickly to avoid being made difficult. Zhao Shu smiled and left the room.
