As for Han Wenlei, who was watching the show from the sidelines, he sat lazily on the sofa in the store, looking at Hu Yining with a doting and indulgent expression. He did not stop the farce, but just smiled faintly.
Mo Jing smiled calmly, glancing up and down at Hu Yining's attire. "It's just a dress," she said kindly. "If Miss Hu likes it, I wouldn't mind giving it to you, let alone letting you have it. But I'm wondering, Miss Hu, are you sure you need this dress?" Mo Jing then looked meaningfully at the thick, tightly wrapped clothing around Hu Yining. "I heard that Miss Hu was unfortunately kidnapped by bad guys not long ago. When I heard that news, I was truly worried for you. It's a blessing that you were rescued safely. But I wonder, have Miss Hu's wounds healed? Wounds shouldn't be covered up."
Immediately afterwards, Mo Jing glanced at the dress in her hand with an ambiguous expression, as if hinting at something to Hu Yining.
When Hu Yining heard Mo Jing mention her kidnapping, the hairs on her body stood on end in fright, her face turned pale, and her body, wrapped in clothes, trembled slightly.
The dimly lit, dilapidated hut, the man's wicked laughter, her naked body laid bare before him—the helplessness and despair she felt at that moment—she would never forget it, not even in death. Especially the moment he held the glass dish, intending to gouge out her eyes; she felt her heart stop.
Every time Hu Yining recalls that experience, she feels terrified, as if she were a non-swimmer drowning in the sea, with no driftwood, no one to rescue her, and only herself praying in fear.
After Hu Yining was rescued, she begged her father to erase the whole incident. Almost no one knew the inside story. How did Mo Jing find out?
Having accompanied her father to various important occasions, Hu Yining, though willful and arrogant, still possessed self-awareness and the ability to judge people. The person who knew the inside story of this matter was definitely no less important than her father.
She knew she shouldn't mess with those people of high status; some were simply too powerful to offend. Hu Yining understood this, but she was unwilling to give up. However, there was nothing she could do. She especially didn't want Han Wenlei, sitting on the sofa, to know about her kidnapping. Hu Yining didn't want the man she liked to look down on her because of her shameful past.
Thinking this, Hu Yining threw the dress in her hand to the ground, her expression still haughty and disdainful: "Suddenly I don't like this dress anymore. Fine, you can have it." Then, she sweetly took Han Wenlei's arm and left.
What Hu Yining didn't know was that Mo Jing knew about this entirely because Ling Moyuan had confessed after arresting George some time ago, and Mo Jing was right there at the time. Mo Jing had indeed met Hu Yining once before at a banquet, but the mayor's daughter was always arrogant and didn't remember her.
Han Wenlei, who was being led by the arm, was somewhat surprised. The usually arrogant and unreasonable Hu Yining had let Mo Jing off so easily. He had wanted to see Mo Jing retaliate after being bullied, which was a bit of a disappointment. Thinking back to the time at the banquet when he lost face in front of everyone because of Mo Jing, he felt an urge to tear her apart. But now wasn't the time. Soon, very soon.
