The servants around had been trying to hold back their laughter until their stomachs ached, and when they heard this, they couldn't hold it in any longer and burst into "puffs" one after another.
"I..." Liu looked at the rotten eggs all over her body, then at the faces of the people around her who were trying not to laugh, and she wished she could find a hole in the ground to crawl into. "I... I saw that this well was abandoned, so I wanted to fill it up!"
"Oh?" Shen Weiwan raised her eyebrows, "But the account book says that gold was buried. Auntie, could it be..." She took a step closer and lowered her voice, "Could it be that you want to steal the property of the general's mansion?"
"You are slandering me!" Liu screamed, but she seemed powerless because of the bad smell on her body.
"Whether it is slander or not, just ask the old butler and you will know." Shen Weiwan turned her head to look at the old butler.
The old housekeeper understood and unfolded the real account book. "My lady, I checked the records for the third year of the Tianqi reign. The general was fighting at the border that year and never returned to the capital." He paused and looked at Liu. "Madam Liu, the account book in your hand is probably fake, isn't it?"
Liu's face turned pale, and she looked at the fake account book in Shen Weiwan's hand, and finally realized that she had fallen into a trap. She wanted to refute, but she smelled the stench on her body, and saw the contemptuous eyes of the servants, and suddenly collapsed in the dry well.
"Aunt," Shen Weiwan squatted down and looked at Liu in the well, "Why are you doing this?" She shook the fake account book in her hand, "In the future, you should read less of this kind of idle books, so as not to fall into the well in the middle of the night."
After she finished speaking, she stood up and waved to the servants, "What are you still standing there for? Quickly pull Auntie out of the well and take her back to her room to wash her properly. Remember, Auntie fell into the well accidentally. Don't spread the news or it will ruin the reputation of the General's Mansion."
The servants, stifling their laughter, hurriedly fished Liu out of the well. Soaking wet and covered in rotten eggs and vegetable leaves, Liu was carried back to her own courtyard in a state of disgrace by two maids.
Shen Weiwan looked at her back, a triumphant smile on her lips. Chun Tao asked softly, "Miss, should Liu be honest now?"
"Honest?" Shen Weiwan shook her head. "This is just a lesson for her." She shook the real account book in her hand. "The real fun is still to come."
The old housekeeper stroked his beard on the side and looked at Shen Weiwan with relief: "Miss, with you here, the general's mansion has hope."
Shen Weiwan nodded and looked up at the night sky. The moonlight shone on her face, reflecting a determined light. She knew that although Liu had suffered a loss, she would never give up. Next, she had to do was to thoroughly check Liu's accounts and expose the evidence of her embezzlement to the world.
Meanwhile, Liu was furious in her courtyard, smashing everything in sight. Lu'e knelt on the ground, trembling as she wiped the rotten eggs off her body.
"Chen Weiwan! I'm not done with you!" Liu screamed, her eyes filled with resentment, "I will never let you go!"
But she knew in her heart that she had completely lost to the niece she once regarded as a fool. From using chili powder to keyholes to fishing with fake account books, Shen Weiwan's methods became more and more cruel, catching her off guard.
Shen Weiwan returned to her courtyard, Chuntao had already prepared hot water. She soaked in the bathtub, thinking of Liu's embarrassed look, and couldn't help laughing.
"Miss, what are you laughing at?" Chuntao came in with snacks and saw Chen Weiwan smiling with her eyes curved.
"Nothing," Shen Weiwan shook her head, "I just feel that these days are becoming more and more interesting."
She knew that the road ahead was still long, and Liu and Shen Ruorou would not give up easily. But she was confident that she could use her wisdom and memories of her past life to protect the General's Mansion and make everyone who had hurt her pay the price.
Outside the bathroom, the moonlight was bright, illuminating every corner of the general's mansion. Shen Weiwan knew that a new contest was quietly brewing. And she was already prepared.
