Bai Shiqing explained, "Jiaojiao brought the flour and zucchini from home."
Upon hearing this, Bai Shihai couldn't help but look at Shen Heng.
He was thinking exactly the same thing as Deng Min and Bai Shiqing.
But Shen Heng acted as if he hadn't heard a thing.
Bai Shihai had already eaten the cake, and there was no way to spit it out, so he had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue eating.
"Shihai, are you guys taking a break?"
Bai Shihai looked up and saw Li Shiqing. The land allocated to the two families was not far apart.
Bai Shihai said politely, "Hey, Uncle Qing, want to have a bite?"
Li Shiqing glanced at the white flour pancakes in their hands, swallowed hard, and thought, "Who would dare to ask for these?"
"We're not eating anymore. Your aunt has already gone home and will bring the food soon. I came over to ask if we could borrow this for a while if you'd like to rest for a bit?"
Li Shiqing pointed to the wheat harvesting tools that Bai Jiaojiao had made.
Everyone is busy working in the fields right now, and not many people know that their family has this tool.
However, it was only a matter of time before she was targeted; Bai Jiaojiao had already anticipated this.
Bai Shihai was also an honest man: "This doesn't belong to my family, it belongs to my brother-in-law. We can use it together."
Although Bai Jiaojiao is Bai Shihai's younger sister, the custom in Shili Village is that a woman follows her husband after marriage. Bai Jiaojiao is now a member of the Shen family, so anything she creates naturally belongs to the Shen family.
Bai Shihai would never risk another falling out with Shen Heng over something so trivial.
Li Shiqing immediately turned to Shen Heng, only to find him eating with a fierce expression. He swallowed hard and then looked at Bai Jiaojiao: "Jiaojiao, can we use this tool for a quarter of an hour? It's the middle of the day, let your laborer rest."
This is quite novel. In Shili Village, villagers generally refer to Bai Jiaojiao as "that Bai Jiaojiao," "the capitalist's daughter," or "the one from the city."
This is the first time I've called her so affectionately.
Li Shiqing has excellent eyesight and can see clearly that this tool is very powerful.
Even if they only have half an hour, each of their five able-bodied men will cut for ten minutes, and they will cut with all their might, and they can cut at least four-tenths of an acre.
Bai Jiaojiao had no impression of Li Shiqing, but felt that he was familiar.
Because in her previous life she looked down on everyone in Shili Village and didn't work with them, she didn't know many people.
"Heng-ge, what do you think?" Bai Jiaojiao looked at Shen Heng.
Shen Heng swallowed a bite of biscuit and stared at Li Shiqing with his tiger-like eyes for a while.
Despite the blazing sun and Chen Heng's gaze, Li Shiqing still felt a chill run down his spine.
Just as he was about to give up, he heard Shen Heng say, "Uncle Qing, take it and use it. My brother and I will rest for a bit, and Taozi will bring it over later."
Li Shiqing breathed a sigh of relief: "Don't worry, we'll bring it to you right away in half an hour."
After saying that, he took the two sickles and walked away quickly.
Bai Shihai and the other two were all surprised, not expecting Shen Heng to be so easy to talk to.
In Shili Village, who would dare to touch Chen Heng's things? Wouldn't that be courting death?
However, when Bai Jiaojiao saw Shen Heng's attitude towards Li Shiqing, she was reminded of what had happened before.
At the time, the villagers all called him a jinx and would avoid him whenever they saw him. When he was about to starve to death, it was Li Shiqing who gave him a piece of dried sweet potato, which saved his life.
Shen Heng later hung out with other hooligans in town, all just to make a living.
Judging from Li Shiqing's appearance, he should have long forgotten about that piece of dried sweet potato, but Shen Heng remembered it for his entire life. Later, after he became successful, he helped Li Shiqing's family a lot, and got all of Li Shiqing's sons jobs in town with government-subsidized grain rations.
Thinking of this, Bai Jiaojiao felt a pang of heartache. She sat down next to Shen Heng and patted his back.
Shen Heng, who was puzzled, raised an eyebrow.
Why is this young wife seducing him again? Is she taking advantage of the fact that he can't do anything right now?
He reached out and pinched Bai Jiaojiao's nape: "What are you doing? Behave yourself."
As Deng Min ate the noodles Bai Jiaojiao had brought, she felt uneasy and kept a close eye on Shen Heng's emotions.
Shen Heng's expression remained tense, and she couldn't figure out what was going on. Unexpectedly, he suddenly grabbed Bai Jiaojiao's neck, startling Deng Min so much that her eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
"Brother-in-law, what are you doing!"
Deng Min thought Shen Heng was going to beat Bai Jiaojiao and screamed. Bai Shiqing rushed over and pulled Bai Jiaojiao behind her.
"Shen Heng, what's wrong with hitting a woman! Her family is right here. Tell me what she did wrong!"
Bai Shiqing could hear her own voice trembling as she spoke to Shen Heng.
"Second sister, no..." Bai Jiaojiao found it amusing to see Bai Shiqing protecting her like a mother hen, while Shen Heng looked stunned and helpless.
Bai Shihai didn't see what happened, but when he heard Bai Shiqing say that Shen Heng was going to hit Bai Jiaojiao, he also dropped the pancake he was holding and stood in front of Shen Heng:
“Shen Heng, when you came to our house and said you wanted to marry Jiao Jiao, that wasn’t what you said.”
Although Bai Shihai had no feelings for Bai Jiaojiao, who came to him later in life, letting Bai Jiaojiao marry Shen Heng was a lifelong commitment, so Bai Shihai's willingness to agree must be out of a sense of responsibility towards Bai Jiaojiao.
He didn't believe in any evil stars or anything like that. If we're talking about bringing misfortune, Bai Jiaojiao was the one who brought his mother to her death, so neither of them should complain about the other in that respect.
What Bai Shihai feared most was Bai Jiaojiao's bad temper; he would be beaten if he lived with Shen Heng.
Shen Heng instinctively raised his hands to prove his innocence: "I didn't hit anyone!"
After doing this, Shen Heng realized how stupid he looked.
Shen Heng was already quite tall, and after working all morning, his muscles were engorged with blood and active, making him appear very robust. When he did this movement, he looked just like a bear on a mountain raising its upper body.
