Yu Wenli and Li Xiulian chatted happily, and being in the same predicament, they developed a mutual sympathy for each other.
When Bai Jiaojiao came to the pigsty again today, Li Xiulian's disgust towards her was particularly blatant, perhaps because she now had supporters.
Bai Jiaojiao was too lazy to argue with Li Xiulian. She wanted to finish looking at the pigs as soon as possible and go home to cook for Shen Heng.
She entered the pigsty and saw Old Xu nagging at Da Huaxu: "Why haven't you been eating much lately? Are you missing your two children? Sigh, there's nothing I can do. I hope your children can find good families."
Bai Jiaojiao said, "Uncle Xu, Da Hua eats a lot. Doesn't she eat happily as soon as meals are served?"
Old Xu snorted: "That's because I told Li Xiulian to stay away from Da Hua's circle, and that's how Da Hua's mood improved."
Bai Jiaojiao was both amused and exasperated. The team leader had even suggested sending all the pigs to the meat processing plant.
That big flower must be heartbroken.
"Luckily, the boar she stole was castrated, otherwise the brigade leader would have gone crazy if he had stolen the two precious eggs that the brigade leader had carefully kept." Bai Jiaojiao could only say that it was a stroke of luck that the two breeding boars, which were no longer the size advantage among their brothers because they hadn't been castrated when they were young, were a blessing in disguise.
"She must have sneaked out and sold herself to someone. Who raises breeding pigs at home these days? The smell is unbearable. What, I should thank her?"
Old Xu had a bad temper, and when Bai Jiaojiao wasn't looking, he had already given Li Xiulian a thorough dressing-down. If Zheng Xu hadn't ordered Old Xu not to lay a hand on her, Li Xiulian would probably have been beaten.
Who told her to mess with Lao Xu's precious child?
Bai Jiaojiao was in a good mood, humming a song as she went home, washed her hands, and chopped vegetables.
This is the last of the winter cabbages, and Bai Jiaojiao plans to stew it with pork and vermicelli.
There's only one advantage to winter: you can refrigerate it whenever you want. Now that the weather is getting warmer, a piece of pork can't be kept for more than a few days. Shen Heng is spending lavishly on meat, so Bai Jiaojiao has to find a way to eat it quickly.
Shen Heng is back, surrounded by everyone.
Blood was gushing from his head, and he covered it with his hand, the blood flowing down his arm.
When Bai Jiaojiao saw this, she was terrified: "What happened? We need to get to the health center right away!"
"Shen Heng has sought revenge!"
"Don't worry about him, hurry up and get him to the hospital. It's just a minor injury. The brigade leader has already arranged for someone to take him to town in an oxcart!"
"His face is all bruised and battered. You need to hurry over there; you'll have to pay for his medical bills."
"If you don't go over soon, they might call the police to come and get you!"
The villagers chattered amongst themselves, and as Shen Heng stood there, Bai Jiaojiao noticed his apparent helplessness.
Bai Jiaojiao angrily said to the villagers who brought Shen Heng back, "Even if the sky falls, I have to take care of my man's injury first. Heng-ge, let's go to the health station to get the wound bandaged."
Bai Jiaojiao quickly turned off the stove, ignoring the half-cooked cabbage in the pot. She found a clean towel to cover Shen Heng's mouth, put the money away, and said to the people at the door, "Make way, we're going out!"
Shen Heng was dragged out by his wife, and he grinned.
Bai Jiaojiao glared at him: "How dare you laugh? Doesn't it hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt, it's just a minor injury."
Shen Heng walked beside Bai Jiaojiao, his face covered in blood, looking both pathetic and funny.
As they reached the village entrance, Li Shuxian chased after them, saying, "I heard that your brother-in-law hired someone to beat you up? Your sister asked me to come and see!"
They were having dinner at home, and the family hadn't been happy for long about Bai Shiqing's pregnancy with twins, when they heard someone outside looking for the village chief, saying that someone had come to fight with Shen Heng and that they had all been sent to the hospital.
Li Shuxian was shocked when he saw the blood on Shen Heng's body.
“It’s alright, brother-in-law. I’ll take him to the health center to get it treated. You tell my sister that Heng is fine.”
"You're still okay after losing so much blood?"
"It's nothing." Shen Heng said lightly, removing the towel that was pressing on the wound, and the blood flowed down again.
Bai Jiaojiao stood on tiptoe and said urgently, "Quickly cover this up!"
"Alright, alright." Shen Heng still had a smile on his face, as if he didn't care about the wound at all.
Seeing that the two were still bickering, Li Shuxian figured it wasn't anything serious: "Then you two go ahead, I won't keep you any longer."
Bai Jiaojiao was a little out of breath from walking all the way. She led Shen Heng to the health station, where a child had fallen from a tree and cut his face badly. The doctor at the health station was stitching him up, but the child was already crying loudly in fright even before the stitches were done.
Seeing Shen Heng enter covered in blood, Sui Changsheng immediately came out and asked, "What happened? Let me see."
"She was caught by Lian, but it's nothing. I dodged it. It's just a minor cut. Don't scare her."
Shen Heng removed the towel, and Sui Changsheng looked at the seven or eight-centimeter-long cut: "You call this nothing? We almost saw the bone."
"Dr. Sui, please treat him quickly, he's been bleeding all the way here." Bai Jiaojiao was very anxious. The injury didn't seem to be on Shen Heng, but rather on Bai Jiaojiao herself.
"It's alright, don't worry. He has a lot of blood."
Sui Changsheng glanced at Shen Heng, too angry to say anything nice.
Shen Heng grinned, his wound making him look somewhat ferocious: "It's nothing, I have plenty of blood."
Sui Changsheng cleaned up Shen Heng's wound: "You need two stitches. I think you don't even need anesthesia?"
"How can we not use anesthesia?" Before Shen Heng could even respond, Bai Jiaojiao became anxious.
Shen Heng's expression was: What? If you don't give me anesthesia, do you think my wife will let you off the hook?
"I was just kidding." Sui Changsheng didn't know how Shen Heng could find such a good wife.
"Stop looking, aren't you scared?" Shen Heng's hand was tightly held by Bai Jiaojiao. He saw that Bai Jiaojiao was staring at him and was worried that she would be scared in a moment.
Am I scared?
Bai Jiaojiao was furious with Shen Heng's unreliability.
"Go outside and wait for me."
Sui Changsheng was preparing the anesthetic when he heard the young couple whispering sweet nothings behind him. He said, "It'll only take two stitches. It'll be done in a bit. We'll just go out and watch that kid get his stitches done. He needs five stitches. Poor thing, such a small child. He'll have such a big scar on his face later."
Sui Changsheng turned around, interrupting Shen Heng and Bai Jiaojiao's rambling.
Bai Jiaojiao asked, "Will this leave a scar?"
"He's so skilled, he won't have any scars. He'll be stitched up today and it'll be fine tomorrow."
Sui Changsheng remained sarcastic, just to avenge Shen Heng for not letting him say anything too serious when he came in.
Bai Jiaojiao's mood improved a bit after Sui Changsheng's words. Sui Changsheng was very skilled, and with Chen Heng's cooperation, he quickly finished sewing with two stitches, put a gauze on it, and then wrapped it around a large circle.
Bai Jiaojiao strongly suspected that Sui Changsheng knew Shen Heng felt ashamed of being beaten so badly, so he deliberately made things so serious for him.
