Only when a consensus is reached on principles can the conversation continue.
Shen Heng said, "You're Jiao Jiao's brother, and I don't consider you an outsider. Let me be frank with you. You know what kind of person I am. She offended Jiao Jiao, and I will never let her get away with it."
Bai Shibao paused for a moment, then said, "What do you want me to do?"
“I don’t need you to do anything,” Shen Heng said, looking at Bai Shibao. “I just don’t want your stance on this matter to upset Jiaojiao. Do you understand?”
Bai Shibao smiled faintly upon hearing this: "I know. What you do is your business, and I will absolutely not interfere."
He was gratified; in Shen Heng's heart, Bai Jiaojiao seemed to hold a greater place than any of them had imagined.
Shen Heng nodded: "I bought you some fruit. I have something to do and can't stay here too long, so I'll head back now."
"My injury is much better now, you don't need to come see me unless it's absolutely necessary, just go about your own business."
Bai Shibao knew that the two were busy with their studies, and he was embarrassed to trouble them. Besides, everyone in this hospital was a comrade-in-arms, so he wasn't really lonely.
After leaving the hospital, Shen Heng spent most of the day running around outside. He went back to school for his only class of the day, and then eagerly waited for Bai Jiaojiao to come out of her lab for dinner.
When Bai Jiaojiao and Shen Heng were having dinner, they casually mentioned ether. Shen Heng's focus wasn't on that. He listened and said, "Feng Zhi, right? Do you want me to find someone to beat him up? A couple of slaps to that kind of guy will make him behave."
He wants to get Wu She out, which will cost money, so he must make the best use of her resources.
"Alright, he's just a bit annoying, but it's not worth getting someone to beat him up. Even if someone did beat him up, it would be Senior Brother Guan who would do it, and Senior Brother Guan has a good temper, so he won't pursue the matter."
Shen Heng said, "I wasn't talking about the ether. Wasn't he dissatisfied with you? He'll be fine after a beating."
Shen Heng's way of standing up for her was really simple and honest, Bai Jiaojiao couldn't help but laugh: "Okay, okay, if I get the chance, I'll ask him out so you can beat him up. When you beat him up, you have to tell him that he can't bully me anymore."
"You're just making me angry all the time."
The two ate something casually in the cafeteria. Bai Jiaojiao had to go to evening self-study, and Shen Heng followed her, holding a textbook in his hand. It was unclear whether he was actually reading it or not.
.
The Ding family.
Because of a large shipment, Mr. Ding stayed at the factory for three days before returning home. He was exhausted and just wanted to take a shower and get some sleep.
"Dad, you're back." Ding Shifang received a call from her father today. Hearing that he was coming home today, he specially prepared a table of dishes.
“Hmm,” Mr. Ding took off his coat and put on slippers. “I’m not hungry right now. I’ll take a shower and then come down to eat.”
Ding Shifang's cooking skills were not much better than those in the factory canteen. She had lived there for two years, but her tastes were still like those of a poor person who had suddenly become rich, preferring too much oil and salt. Her father found the food she cooked greasy.
However, Ding's mother was lazy. Since Ding Shifang was willing to cook, she would rather eat something that didn't suit her taste than lift a finger.
As the factory director, Mr. Ding lived in a small villa allocated by the factory. The whole family lived on the second floor, and the washroom was also on the second floor.
After taking a bath, Mr. Ding suddenly felt lazy and didn't want to move.
"Call your dad down for dinner." Ding's mother was already hungry. She put away the wool sweater she was knitting and urged Ding Shifang.
"Mom, I dare not." Mr. Ding was a little serious. He was a leader outside, and he often bossed people around at home as well.
When Bai Jiaojiao was at home, her father was willing to indulge her little tantrums, but when it came to Ding Shifang, he didn't have the same patience.
Ding Shifang is often criticized by her father, and her attitude towards him is now one of careful flattery. She wouldn't dare to urge him.
"That's your father. What can you possibly do?"
Ding's mother felt that Ding Shifang was really useless, sighed, and went upstairs herself.
"Old Ding, it's almost eight o'clock, hurry up and come down for dinner. Shifang has been preparing it for a long time, and the food is getting cold."
When Ding's mother went upstairs, she saw that Ding's father was already lying in bed. Although he wasn't covered by a blanket, he was just slumped on the bed, looking like he didn't want to move anymore.
"I'm so tired these past two days. It's not comfortable to sleep on that sofa in the office. You two eat, and bring up my portion. I'll lie down for a bit and then eat."
After finishing speaking, Mr. Ding took a deep breath.
Ding's mother didn't leave immediately. She sat on the edge of the bed and looked at Ding's father: "Old Ding, do you know that Jiaojiao came to Yancheng? I saw Jiaojiao the other day. She's a college student now, and she got into Peking University!"
That day, after Bai Jiaojiao left the police station, Ding's mother went to ask the police officers there. It was the police officers who told her that Bai Jiaojiao and her classmates were from Yanda University.
"Yan University? Jiaojiao got into Yan University? Really? Is it possible for her to get into Yan University?"
"Of course it's true. Would the police lie to people?"
Ding's mother told Ding's father what had happened that day: "Jiaojiao hasn't changed much. After so many years in the countryside, she's still as pretty as before. She's just still angry with us and doesn't want to talk to me. Sigh."
Mr. Ding interlaced his fingers and placed them on his stomach. He sighed first, then said earnestly, "This child has been ignorant since she was little. How could she have gotten into Peking University with those grades? We must have sent her to the countryside. Otherwise, she would have suffered for a few years and become who she is today. Her bad temper was all because you spoiled her!"
Previously, Mr. Ding thought that Bai Jiaojiao's bad temper was inherited from him, and he was even a little smug about it.
"Jiaojiao is still young, how could she understand our good intentions?"
