Chapter 312 Calling the Police

"Let me go! You see, I have nothing here!"

The man's room was much cleaner and tidier than the one Shen Heng and Bai Jiaojiao lived in; it was clearly something he had bought himself over the past year.

"Take a look at what he wrote." Shen Heng grabbed the man's collar with one hand and casually picked up something from the table with the other.

They are all photos, and it looks like they are doing some kind of surveying.

Bai Jiaojiao took it, and the more she looked at it, the deeper her brows furrowed.

"Brother Heng, he seems to be a spy."

Before the man could even finish speaking, the guesthouse staff erupted in protest: "What nonsense are you talking about? How could there be spies in our guesthouse!"

"Call the police immediately."

"You're slandering me..."

The man was slapped unconscious by Shen Heng halfway through his sentence, his eyes unable to focus: "Don't call the police! I'm not a spy!"

Shen Heng wasn't about to indulge him. He pulled off his belt and tied the man's hands to the table leg, like tying a donkey up.

"How could he be a spy?" Shen Heng and Bai Jiaojiao whispered. "Really?"

Bai Jiaojiao handed the hand-drawn sketches that Shen Heng had just given her to Shen Heng: "Look at these, and then look at those photos. Who would study this kind of thing based on photos of our troops outside?"

Hearing the commotion coming from inside, Wu She immediately perked up.

He leaned closer and saw Shen Heng grab someone by the neck and shove them inside. The courtyard immediately descended into chaos. He took advantage of the confusion and quickly went inside to watch the spectacle from the crowd.

There weren't many guests at the small guesthouse, just a family with a son and two brothers, but they were all standing in the courtyard, making it feel crowded.

Wu She pretended to be unaware and asked, "Brother, what's wrong?"

"The young couple said they've discovered a spy."

"So this is what spies look like. Hey, is he Chinese or a foreigner?"

"They're definitely foreigners. If it's a Chinese person, then they're traitors!"

Shen Heng tied the person up and brought them out. He glanced at the guesthouse employee and said, "Why are you trembling? Go call the police right now. Didn't you understand what she said?"

"No, impossible." The waitress knew that if this person really was a spy and she hadn't noticed him staying at her place for so many days, she would inevitably become the victim of gossip.

To make matters worse, this person had no identification at all.

Because of its remote location, the guesthouse where she worked was rarely visited by security personnel. In order to earn a little more money, she would ask for an extra dollar or two depending on the guests' clothing. Even if they didn't have identification, she would still do them a favor as long as they paid enough.

This guest was willing to stay here for four yuan a day for an extended period, which would earn her an extra thirty yuan a month. Because of this, when her superiors wanted to transfer her to a better place during the Spring Festival, she refused.

"Impossible my foot! Aren't you going to call the police?" Shen Heng pointed at Wu She in the crowd and said, "Go, hurry up."

"Brother, I don't know where the police station is around here."

Wu She wasn't omnipotent either; this area was far beyond the jurisdiction of the police station they usually went to.

“I know, I know, our family is here to register our child’s household registration.”

The man with the child was very enthusiastic: "Everyone has a responsibility in this kind of thing, I'll go call the police!" He then prepared to run over.

"Hey, big brother, the bikes in the yard are ours, you can ride them!" When Shen Heng and Bai Jiaojiao arrived, the bicycles were already parked in the yard.

He wasn't worried that the man would ride away and not come back, after all, his wife and children were still there.

The older man rode off on his bike, while the rest of the people curiously peered into the house.

We live in a peaceful era now, and people have hardly ever seen spies.

Besides, they are all ordinary people; who would encounter such a major event?

The little girl said that this spy was studying their troops.

Bai Jiaojiao now clearly understands what can be put in an envelope as goods and handed over to others, and how it can bring in a considerable reward.

She couldn't help but marvel at Ding Shifang's audacity, wondering if she even understood what she was doing. Regardless of her awareness, Ding Shifang had already succumbed to her own trap.

Shen Heng never expected that Ding Shifang could do such a thing. Shen Heng, who had been quiet in Shili Village, didn't even remember her. It turned out that she had such abilities.

He was just a speculator trying to make a living. This guy is something else. If only we had known, we would have let her be the village bully in Shili Village.

The waiter tried to sneak away while everyone was gathered around the door of the private room, but Bai Jiaojiao stopped him: "Where are you going? You might be able to run away today, but can you run away forever?"

Bai Jiaojiao's words plunged the waitress into utter despair. She leaned against the wall, sat on the floor, and cried, "Why is my life so miserable... If it weren't for the fact that I have a child at home who needs medication, I wouldn't have to resort to such a despicable method to earn this heartless money... Child, I'm so sorry!"

Bai Jiaojiao advised, "When the police arrive, I urge you to tell them everything and provide them with as many clues and evidence as possible. Tell them when he arrived, who he associates with, what he usually does, and what makes him different from our good comrades. The better and clearer your explanation, the more lenient our government might be in your case."

"Really?"

"It's definitely better than you running away. If you ran away, you'd be labeled a fugitive to evade punishment, and you might even be considered his accomplice. At most, you're guilty of dereliction of duty and have embezzled a little more money from the people."
