Shen Heng's reasoning was simple: the boy was easy to raise; if he was raised the same way he had been since childhood, he would survive, saving Shen Heng the trouble of worrying.
Bai Jiaojiao: "......"
She felt that Shen Heng wouldn't be a sexist, since sexists are people with very old-fashioned clan concepts who always talk about carrying on the family line.
Someone like Shen Heng, who was capable of secretly moving his father's grave, probably doesn't care whether the "roots" of the Shen family will be severed.
Bai Jiaojiao said, "Sons resemble their mothers and daughters resemble their fathers. If our son grows up to look like me, would you still be willing to kick him?"
Shen Heng sized up Bai Jiaojiao and then reached out to pinch her, taking advantage of the situation: "Give me a break. If my son grows up to be as small as you, wouldn't that be embarrassing for me? I'll stretch him out until he's big enough."
He could accept having a daughter who resembled him, and he wouldn't be afraid if his little girl grew up strong and healthy, which would be a good thing if no one would dare to bully her in the future. But he couldn't accept having a son who could be killed with a single punch.
Bai Jiaojiao punched Chen Heng: "I'm being serious with you!"
"Okay, okay, let's talk seriously," Shen Heng squeezed Bai Jiaojiao's soft little fist, "Can't I like whatever you give birth to for me?"
Shen Heng only said one sentence seriously, the second half of which was: "They're already born, and even if I dislike them, the government won't give me a refund. Isn't there some kind of crime against abandoning infants now?"
As soon as Shen Heng finished speaking, he was hit by Bai Jiaojiao again.
"You're talking nonsense!"
Bai Jiaojiao washed her hands and started cooking. Shen Heng stopped touching her and leaned against the stove, looking at Bai Jiaojiao: "You keep asking me these kinds of questions. Tell me first, when are you planning to have my baby?"
Bai Jiaojiao paused with her spatula: "Brother Heng, I plan to finish university and then pursue a master's degree."
"Read it."
With their current family circumstances, Bai Jiaojiao could afford to study for a lifetime.
“In our college, students usually start their graduation projects in their third year, which is next year. I want to apply to Professor Ji to link my undergraduate graduation project with my graduate project, so I don’t want to stop to have a baby during this period.”
"You can decide for yourself." But Shen Heng counted on his fingers and realized that they were both quite old at that time.
Bai Jiaojiao suddenly said, "Shall we have a child now?"
"I'll listen to you... huh?"
Shen Heng suddenly looked up and met Bai Jiaojiao's gaze.
"Is it okay, Heng-ge? Are you ready to be a father now?"
Shen Heng remained silent for a while, while Bai Jiaojiao was still a little nervous.
After all, the two of them only talked about having children a few times in the first six months of their marriage, saying that they were not in a hurry and had always used contraception for many years of marriage.
"How about we try not wearing anything tonight?"
A small flame secretly ignited in Shen Heng's eyes. Bai Jiaojiao knew what he was thinking and almost grabbed a spatula and threw it at his head.
Shen Heng ate his dinner without tasting anything, and had already washed up and gone to bed long ago.
Bai Jiaojiao was so embarrassed by him that she was almost too shy to get on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Shen Heng poked his head out from under the kang (a heated brick bed): "What are you dawdling for? Hurry up and get on."
Shen Heng had already stripped himself naked, and was covered with the pink towel blanket that Bai Jiaojiao used to cover her with. The small blanket made Bai Jiaojiao look soft and pink, but it looked quite out of place on Shen Heng's wheat-colored skin.
"Can you please stop looking at me like that?"
Bai Jiaojiao was embarrassed by Shen Heng's gaze. Such things should be commonplace for an old married couple, but why was Shen Heng's look so strange today?
"I'm not looking at you, hurry up." Shen Heng covered his eyes with his hands.
Bai Jiaojiao sat on the sofa in front of the kang (a heated brick bed), staring at Shen Heng. Before two seconds had passed, a gap appeared between Shen Heng's two fingers.
Bai Jiaojiao was both amused and annoyed: "Brother Heng!"
"Hey, hey, Heng's here!"
Chen Heng turned on the lamp, picked up the blanket and got up to wrap Bai Jiaojiao in as well: "What are you yelling for? Don't rush."
"Hmm..."
Bai Jiaojiao was pulled into Shen Heng's arms. Shen Heng seemed unusually anxious today.
"Heng-ge, don't..." Bai Jiaojiao exclaimed in surprise, and somehow Shen Heng turned her over.
With her back to Shen Heng, she couldn't see his expression, but she could feel his strong body enveloping her from behind: "Jiaojiao, be good, and Brother Heng will give you a child."
Shen Heng's slightly rough hands soothed her, and he did his best to treat her gently, but he showed no mercy to her body.
Bai Jiaojiao felt that Shen Heng was like a wild beast that had broken free tonight. Her fingers were tightly gripping the pillowcase. Shen Heng reached out and inserted his hand between her fingers, pressing himself tightly against her.
The next day, Bai Jiaojiao took her first sick leave since starting university.
Shen Heng felt that he couldn't be entirely blamed for this. After all, he had never had the chance to have such intimate contact without any barriers like last night before, so it was understandable that he was a little excited.
"What do you want to eat for lunch? I'll go out and buy it for you."
Shen Heng got up early in the morning and tidied up the house thoroughly. Then he looked at Bai Jiaojiao, who was still in bed.
Bai Jiaojiao pulled the blanket over her head: "I won't eat."
“You slept in this morning and didn’t eat, so you have to eat lunch.”
Shen Heng took the quilt from Bai Jiaojiao's hand. It was still his quilt. Bai Jiaojiao's little pink quilt had been soiled by the two of them last night, and Shen Heng had just washed it and was hanging it on the rope in the yard.
"Was that me sleeping in?!"
Bai Jiaojiao looks just like a rabbit that's about to bite.
"It's my fault, it's my fault, I've made you tired," Shen Heng said, holding Bai Jiaojiao's small hand and pressing her palm against his face. He rubbed it against her face with satisfaction. "I'm doing this so I can get our son into your belly sooner."
"Hmph." He realized that Bai Jiaojiao had brought this upon herself.
"It's okay to be angry with me, but don't skip meals. I'll bring you whatever you want to eat from the cafeteria. If you still want something better, I can ride my bike to a restaurant to buy it for you."
Shen Heng kissed each of Bai Jiaojiao's ten fingers one by one, and then kissed Bai Jiaojiao's lips: "Tell me, what do you want to eat?"
"I want to eat hand-pulled noodles with green bean sauce."
Shen Heng was taken aback: "You really know how to eat. Where am I supposed to find kidney beans for you at this time of year?"
"Other kinds of sauces are fine too, but I want to eat hand-pulled noodles."
"Okay, that's easy."
Shen Heng immediately went to take care of it. Before leaving, he said to Bai Doudou, "Take good care of your sister at home, and wait for me to come back!"
"Woof!"
Bai Doudou, aside from everything else, is particularly fond of chiming in.
Bai Jiaojiao couldn't help but laugh as soon as it opened its mouth.
Shen Heng patted Bai Doudou's head, making Bai Jiaojiao laugh, which was a great achievement for it.
Bai Jiaojiao stretched on the kang (a heated brick bed) before reluctantly getting up.
After finishing lunch, Bai Jiaojiao still had to go to class in the afternoon, so taking half a day off was already her limit.
Bai Jiaojiao calculated that if she started preparing for pregnancy now, as long as she and Shen Heng were healthy, they could have a baby next spring. She would take a year off from school next academic year so that it wouldn't interfere with her postpartum confinement and recovery.
